I thought it was heartbreaking. He had to ruck, rove, defend and work as a forward. He dis everything and almost carried us over the line.

I really felt sorry for him on Sunday having to bust his guts while others went missing.

Go Maxy

This guy is honestly amazing. Not only a good footy player but from all reports a great fella. He is the sort of guy you would have as your best man without having ever met him. And best of all he is a dees man through and through.

We win the gf in 2019, he should be Australian of the year !

Clarry finally hits the leaderboard too. He’ll be top 10 before long

Maxy is a dead set legend

I agree with Cornes. We are so lucky to have him.

MAX GAWN has been the best and most influential player in the competition this season and the Melbourne ruckman definitely deserved his spot in my round 16 Team of the Week.

I think he has a really good chance to win the Brownlow Medal.

I may make a goose of myself but it's doubtful Max will win the Brownlow

Umpires won't vote for him

Maybe if he played for anyone but Melbourne

There's something wrong with the world, though, that's for sure

I want him to win it for the acceptance speech alone.

Equal 2nd for the Brownlow now, at $7, equal with Cripps.

Finally a Brownlow night might be worth watching for Demon supporters.

Cant believe Oliver is paying $81 ... wow.

Imagine the speech if Gawn wins and has had a few... lots of censoring for channel 7 ?

He won't be allowed to drink on Brownlow night. He'll have a game to prepare for the following Saturday.

Yep, a few of our guys will be taking votes away from each other.

Whereas at Hawthorn, it has been Mitchell then daylight.

I dimly recall we didn't win any Brownlows during the great run of premierships in my youth and the reason why was we had so many good players taking votes off each other.    Happy to see that happen again.

Its all just a guessing game, but he currently has 16 votes on the AFL.com Brownlow predictor

Another 10 votes for him you’d think for round 22 (the AFLCA keep rnds 22-23 votes hidden to add some suspense). He was on 80 at the end of rnd 21 with Cripps on 83 and Mitchell on 87.

Mitchell had an ‘ok’ game against the Saints (might get 2-3 votes) while Cripps had a slow start to the game (2-3 votes) but the big votes will go to the Dogs. Based on that, I think another good game from Max and he’ll win the AFLCA award which is probably the second best individual honour in a season.

Personally, I’m coming around to the notion that the coaches views are superior to the umpires view - in so far as there is a better perspective and more objectivity - as  coaches teach how to influence games this have a better feel for who was influential in the myriad of different ways one can be when playing.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.

The Demons are finally back at the MCG and finally back on the winners list as they continually chipped away at a spirited Kangaroos side eventually breaking their backs and opening the floodgates to run out winners by 6 goals.
