Judging by his non involvement over the last few weeks and the drafting and emergence of Young charlie, is this the end of Jeffy?

Jeff has the talent to be our first choice small for a few years yet, he has to step up and take back his mantle, if he doesn’t, then yes his future at the club looks pretty poor and he won’t be worth much, if anything, as trade bait

Youd be forgiven for thinking hes out of favour ( carrying a marked card ) ..eh ?

Hope not.

When he is on, he is by far our most damaging small fwd.

However it seems like he is going through the motions at the moment. Casey reports never really give us any indication he is putting everything in to get back to the firsts.

Hope he turns it around.

It's up to him really.

Goody has always been about behaviors and the idea of behaviors getting you in and out of the team.

If he wants a good example of what happens if Goody no longer forgives you, take a look at number 23 at Port Adelaide (as sad as that has become).

Might have been handy lurking in the 50 against Port.

but based on recent behaviours could have been a massive liability in the forward 50 as well. get his pressure up and he will get back in.

The season disappointment both for the player himself and the team.

Brings so much when hes on, but is a liability when hes not.

The pity is that we really need Jeff right now with the switch turned on. It would make a huge difference to team balance and goal scoring opportunities.

The problem for Jeff is that he not only needs to get back into the team (will only happen on Goodwin's terms-play well at Casey) and then play consistently every week, both offensively and defensively. That's the problem.

Can't see him at the Demons next year.

It's the Watt's problem, Jeff has the ability but not the winning behaviours that Goodwin is clearly trying to develop.

If Kent has a big game at Casey in the next couple of weeks I cant see Garlett getting back in the team this season tbh.  Especially if Spargo comes in vs the Saints.

As it stands he probably third in line small forward behind Spargo and Kent.. and last week we didnt even play a traditional small forward.

That is entirely up to Jeff and his attitude. We all know he can play the game when he wants to

Would be worth less at the trade table than he is worth to our team.
Until this year, he was the highest goal scorer at the club since coming across from the Blues. 40+ goals a year every year. Considering our recent scoring problems, lack of speed and lack of crumbers, it'd be stupid to trade him. If anything it's stupid he's not in the team at the moment. The coaches obviously don't like something about his game at the moment and want it to change, but I doubt he'll ever tear up a game at VFL level, so he's just rotting away there. We need his speed and goal scoring power.

People saying Spargo has taken his spot aren't quite correct. Spargo, while small, has played more as a high flankers pushing up into the midfield and has yet to show he can play as a small combing forward. Not dissing the kid as I love him, but he doesn't play as a small crumbing forward. Jeffy is competing with Hannan for that spot and IMO should be in the team.

Not necessarily

Hopefully not.  An in form Gartlett makes us a much better team.

With that said, we’d get next to nothing for him in a trade if he’s playing out the year in the VFL.  Worth much more to us than he would be in a trade.

I doubt he's heart is in it at the moment. If it was he'd be smashing the VFL as he's too talented for that league.

With that being said, I wish he was in the side.

His demise started against GWS last year in Canberra with that infamous 10 dream team points performance (3 possessions/3 frees against) and has barely played a passable game since.

I agree, I doubt his heart is in it.

It's very likely hes now a square peg where round holes exist.

I dont think he's the style of player the 'brains trust ' seek. If he's set effectively an impossible requisite how long would anyone bother ?

It's easy for some to say it's up to him but i very much doubt it.

Its up to Goody...up to Macca etc

I wonder if Jeffy is familiar with the writings of Heller ??

It could just be a coincidence, but perhaps his 'demise' started a fortnight prior to that August 5 game.

In mid-July 2017 Garlett went on leave due to the death of a family member, and he was in doubt for the Port game on July 20.

Garlett gives our team something I think we're lacking, but to get selected - and stay in the team - he's got to work really hard when he doesn't have the ball.

Worth noting he stunk it up in the magoos at Carlton as well which is partly they traded him for a bag of chips. I understand he needs to earn his spot but maybe the VFL just isn't his bag. Maybe the pace of the game is too slow for him.

I'm speculating, but I've no doubt that with regular game time he's still a 40-50 goal a year forward. If we trade him then that's what he will be kicking for the club we trade him to.

I just hope his life outside the club is ok.

My Carlscum mate told me the day he was traded “Jeff needs a lot of love”

i hope he aint walking a rocky road

this might be totally naive of me, but if he is too quick for the VFL shouldn't he be running amok?

This is common knowledge though, no? He seems the introvert and appears to hang off Jetta.

That's a fair assumption but it doesn't always work that way. I've played sport with guys whose performance level would noticeably drop when surrounded by other players with slower reaction times etc. It's not one size fits all, in my experience.

I would hope Jeffy's focus would be meeting some defensive KPIs and in meeting those forging a path back into the side. We all know what he can do offensively and that will never change. He is a natural talent.

Quite possibly mate.

Just passing on what i was told first hand from within the Carlscum inner sanctum
