bobby1554 1,275 Posted June 14, 2018 Posted June 14, 2018 I think some of you may be judging Christian on what you "think" he should be as opposed to what he is delivering. He is on target to better his 2017 stats in most areas, especially 1% ers, other than goals kicked (that would be because of the different role he is playing this year). Also, don't forget he missed a year with an ACL. And please don't compare him with DeGoey, one is a fine young man, the other a f....wit. 1 Quote

I think Petracca’s problem is between his ears. He needs a serious wake up call now, or he’ll always be that guy who threatens to have a brake out game - and this blog can not afford another one of those. I agree that he needs a wake up call. But I will also say if he lost some weight it'd be easier for him to build a tank, I know it is for me! 1 Quote

I suspect Petracca is always going to be judged against the high expectations that people have of him. We may have to lower those expectations and see his future a little differently. He strikes me as a footballer that will never have high disposal count, unless he spends his time in the midfield, and even then he seems more of a burst type of player than someone who will run all day. Whatever the reason, he does appear to tire quickly and easily, more so than others. This means that he is not fit enough, restricted due to injury or does not extend himself. Watts is very similar. Jack after a brief burst is always seen with his hands on his knees sucking in air. Unlike Watts, Petracca is prepared to commit himself to the contest, can break tackles and have an impact on the game. However, the game has reached the point where you can't afford to have a player who can't run for sustained periods of time. So Christian has some work to do. Bobby, getting back to your point, it would be interesting to see his 2017 and 2018 stats in order to form an objective opinion. Are his stats in 2017 very good, good, satisfactory or poor ? He may be on target to better his 2017 stats this season, but by how much and is the improvement satisfactory given the interpretation of the 2017 numbers ? 2 Quote

DeeZone 10,584 Posted June 14, 2018 Posted June 14, 2018 Thanks bobby1554 - Trac looks on target to beat his disposal count this year but is a bit behind with goals. I think that we are all waiting for him to break a game open and kick a lot of goals and rack up big numbers of possessions. Is he carrying a niggle?? Go for it Trac!!! Go Dee's!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 1 1 Quote
Deeoldfart 8,201 Posted June 14, 2018 Posted June 14, 2018 With his undoubted talent, Tracc has the ability to be a game breaker, but 50 games in we are still waiting. If he could consistently deliver on his potential it would be huge for our footy club, but I'm not convinced that the work-rate is there, right now. I expect that he arrived at this point in his career on talent alone, but that's not sustainable in today's game. All dessert and no dinner is not good enough. 3 Quote
Bring-Back-Powell 15,540 Posted June 14, 2018 Posted June 14, 2018 Totally off topic but it's fact that in 2014 GWS tried to trade picks 4 and 7 to St Kilda for pick 1 in order to secure Petracca. GWS were so desperate for him pre draft. Quote

Pirlo 813 Posted June 18, 2018 Posted June 18, 2018 Bloody hell, the guy is out of form. Not sure why he deserves so many people casting aspersions over his character. He obviously needs to improve, but there's plenty of time for that. Lets wait and see where we are in six, 12, 18 months time before we start piling [censored] into a 22 year old. 3 1 Quote

How many midfielders are game breakers within 100 games, let alone 50? Only one I can think of at Melbourne is Oliver. Cripps, Bontempelli, Kelly, Shiel stand out in recent years. Coniglio is rated by everyone these days, but took 80 games to really get going at all. 1 Quote

He's pretty much where I expect him to be. I imagine he'll have a huge season in 2019 along the lines of Hogan this year. It takes kids a while to figure this whole thing out, and he'll be dominating like Dusty in time, we just need to be patient. 1 1 Quote
Lil_red_fire_engine 11,383 Posted June 18, 2018 Posted June 18, 2018 He needs to have his role simplified. He is a half forward trying to prove he is a midfielder. Now he is doing neither well. I suspect his mid year review would have been the most interesting fly on the wall convo. I will be interested to see any shift in where he spends his time or the way he approaches the role. Not unusual for a player 50 games in to have a lull. Not many players have a straight up trajectory, those wanting him on the trade table is laughable. He needs to be playing high half forward and get back to attacking the ball and man and setting up goals. 9 1 Quote
