Got any proposals?  It's a problem invented by you.

I don't see the problem.  I've reasoned above that he's worth pick 20.

I must have missed it, just saw the one about us probably having around 20 and 40

By the time GCS get a PP and other clubs have academy/FS bids to match, our pick 20 could end up being 25

I'm a fan of recruiting Langdon, he's the right age profile and he offers us pace, endurance and field position in metres gained.  There's some concern about his kicking but I think this may be overblown.  I think most here will rate Salem as one of our best field kicks and they stack up reasonably similarly in the data below:

Average Disposals:

https://www.footywire.com/afl/footy/ft_player_rankings?year=2019&rt=LA&st=DI

Average metres gained:

https://www.footywire.com/afl/footy/ft_player_rankings?year=2019&rt=LA&st=MG

Need to leaven this with average turnovers though:

https://www.footywire.com/afl/footy/ft_player_rankings?year=2019&rt=LA&st=TO

  • Isaac Smith 74th for disposals, 17th for metres gained, but 10th for turnovers
  • Brad Hill 51st for disposals, 11th for metres gained, 22nd for turnovers
  • Ed Langdon 54th for disposals, 39th for metres gained, 78th for turnovers
  • Salem 50th for disposals,  34th for metres gained, 76th for turnovers - very similar numbers to Langdon

I like Isaac Smith and Brad Hill too but Smith is a lot older (30yo) and based on these number turns it over a surprising amount.  Brad Hill (26yo) will be a lot more expensive in trade and salary than Langdon (23yo) and he too turns it over a surprising amount.  I'd be happy to add any of those three, but those numbers make Langdon look attractive.

Good analysis 55. What are your thoughts on targeting Ellis instead as a FA?

I'm not in favour of Ellis, he has attractive attributes but he won't put his body on the line.

I hope he went to bed early tonight.

I was about to say DZ, why on earth would he want to come to this rabble?

Trade Hunt for him.

Having another good game tonight.

he's worth more than our second rounder; if we get him for that we should be pleased

of course, it could be that he's holding off on his contract because he knows that if brad hill goes he'll get an extra $100-200k on his contract with freo

peter bell will say he wants our pick 3 and second rounder for him, and won't accept a single thing less*

*scratch that, will also want neville jetta as a wa boy coming home

Peter Bell is a joke, last year coming out and publicly saying they were no longer pursuing Hogan because the Dees were asking too much only to recruit him a few days later for exactly what we were asking.

A mate has a family member who works at Fremantle and apparently Melbourne are leading the race for Langdon. That said, I’m not sure who else is chasing him. He’s definitely been talking to us the most, was what I was told also

And the comment he made in relation to retaining Neale (in which he failed):”It would be a real feather in my cap.” I believe he made the comment during his first press conference after being made GM.

I think trading players should be about reaching a deal that is beneficial to both teams and not looking to ‘win’ the deal.

How about Fremantle’s first round pick and Langdon for Brayshaw?

I agree, this is why i rate Mahoney at the trade table. he's happy to pay slight overs to get deals done early so they can focus on other things, and i believe that good will gets extended back to us at times because we're easy to deal with.

Bell had overplayed his hand from the start though because the freo supporters thought they were finally landing Hogan, so if he stuffed it up he was done before he'd even really started.

As crazy at it might sound, i'd actually do that.

Then try and bring in King with our first rounder. Brayshaw & Pick 3 out = Langdon, King & pick 7 in

Langdon was great again this round. 37 disposals (24 kicks) at 73% efficiency and a huge 852 metres gained (most of any player this round thus far).

At this rate he's going to cost us more than originally planned!

Couldn't be more impressed with this bloke. An amazing gut runner.

Really hope we land him.

ANB can take him under his wing....

Make no mistake, Langdon will be in Melbourne before the end of the year. #ETthetradebreaker.

Is Moorabbin part of Melbourne?

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
