Up bright and early and can see Etihad (or whatever it's called now) from our hotel. Wandered down to the Woolshed last night for some over priced craft beer (don't they sell VB in the city anymore) but will go there again today anyway.

I think Bulldogs are about 3 months early as they are going to need an effort of marvel proportions to win this one.

Dee's by 15... Goals.

Jonesey will tear it up.

Quick josh go have a spin around the tan

who ever drinks VB - it's rubbish

(game day thread devolves into beer skirmish before 6am - only at Melbourne )

Gee Josh, everything read well until you mentioned the “green death” and beer in the same sentence!  If you’re looking for a decent beer after the game try Penny Blue off Little Bourke Street.  You will be spoilt for choice mate.

Enjoy the game and Nate’s 250th.

I think we will win, but geez if we are a touch off could easily get beat, doggies will have a crack that we do know and they have some handy players

There was a time not so long ago that if you woke up on the morning of a game and your opponent for the day had 13 premiership players, two days extra break and the venue was Etihad Stadium, you would sort of freak out in the expectation of another flogging.

Those days are gone.

Good luck to Nathan Jones - he’s like a good wine that gets better with age and side by side with Jack Viney, should lead the Demons home to victory in his 250th game.

I follow 3 teams; Melbourne Victory, The Australian Cricket Team (with some reservation these days) and the mighty, mighty Dees.  2 of those teams I have come to expect to come out and win most games they play, the other team has messed with my mind for 54 years and leaves me wondering WTF more often than not.  Please boys, keep this wonderful euphoric feeling going for another 16 weeks or so.

My son and I are off to the game today having not been able to get to the last few.  We are fizzing at the bung for another big win by our boys in Red and Blue.

Go Dees!!!

Just ending up a dinner with friends where I am. Good food, wine and friends. A little sleep and wake early to the Dees live win the 6th in a row.

May have a small headache.

Going to bed now. Will do my best to get up at 4:45 to watch the game live....

Go Dees and go Jonesy!

Craft beer and hipsters, yuk.

I can’t see how we can lose this game.  giphy.gif

Ugh. Today I’m attending a 3rd birthday party with the family. Starts at 1.00. Goes for 3 hours. It’s at a kids play centre.

Thankfully the Dad is a Dogs fan. I’m hoping we can hatch a plan to somehow watch the game. Then again, wouldn’t want to spoil his kids’ birthday party by souring his mood!

Sigh, looks like DLand game Day thread followed by replay tonight again.

So we are 96% chance to play finals according to champion data 67% chance for top 4, only we can stuff it up from here, should win today but still have a slight case of mfcss

It’s my sons 1st birthday which I organized the party for 1:30 start, I never checked the fixture I just assumed we were playing tomorrow, so I will have to catch replay later

You don’t look well mate. You may well be coming down with something. It just wouldn’t be right to potentially cross-infect young children. Best to just stay home.

It's from Champion Data's Twitter page.

Last year I remember we were paying 1.02 to make the 8 leading into round 23

still scarred by that , will bank it when its mathematically certain

a win today would be nice

Surreptitious checking of afl app. If you're on Telstra, stream live in afl app and duck off the loo every 5 mins "must be the cupcakes love"

You Dads doing dad things... and wanting to be around children...

World. Hell. Handbasket.

lol

I expect the pups to come out yapping and snapping at our heels, but I can’t see their hyper-activity lasting for an extended period.  We look to have their measure in most areas, and on form this year, they seem to have few players who are likely to inflict a heap of pain (even if they do get off the leash, which is doubtful because imo we are too disciplined to allow that to happen).  Dee’s by around 7 goals I reckon, and the puppies again licking their wounds in the dog-house.

ps.  In the unlikely event that we do come out ‘flat’ after the Alice and the short break, I’m very confident that our boys will do whatever it takes to find another gear for the Jonesy. That’s what good teams do, and we are a good team now!

Me last week at kiddie performance.  Mrs not pleased.  Watched full replay later.  Mrs forgot quickly enough.  Good plan of action.

It's Game Day and the Demons return to the MCG to face the Tigers in their annual Blockbuster on ANZAC Eve for the 10th time. The Dees will be desperate to reignite their stuttering 2025 campaign and claim just their second win of the season. Can the Demons dig deep and find that ANZAC Spirit to snatch back to back wins?

  • PREVIEW: Richmond

A few years ago, the Melbourne Football Club produced a documentary about the decade in which it rose from its dystopic purgatory of regular thrashings to the euphoria of a premiership victory. That entire period could have been compressed in a fast motion version of the 2025 season to date as the Demons went from embarrassing basket case to glorious winner in an unexpected victory over the Dockers last Saturday. They transformed in a single week from a team that put in a pedestrian effort of predictably kicking the ball long down the line into attack that made a very ordinary Bombers outfit look like worldbeaters into a slick, fast moving side with urgency and a willingness to handball and create play with shorter kicks and by changing angles to generate an element of chaos that yielded six goals in each of the opening quarters against Freo.

  • NON-MFC: Round 07

Round 7 gets underway in iconic fashion with the traditional ANZAC Day blockbuster. The high-flying Magpies will be looking to solidify their spot atop the ladder, while the Bombers are desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top eight. Later that evening, Fremantle will be out to redeem themselves after a disappointing loss to the Demons, facing a hungry Adelaide side with eyes firmly set on breaking into the top four. Saturday serves up a triple-header of footy action. The Lions will be looking to consolidate their Top 2 spot as they head to Marvel Stadium to clash with the Saints. Over in Adelaide, Port Adelaide will be strong favourites at home against a struggling North Melbourne. The day wraps up with a fiery encounter in Canberra, where the Giants and Bulldogs renew their bitter rivalry. Sunday’s schedule kicks off with the Suns aiming to bounce back from their shock defeat to Richmond, taking on the out of form Swans. Then the Blues will be out to claim a major scalp when they battle the Cats at the MCG. The round finishes with a less-than-thrilling affair between Hawthorn and West Coast at Marvel. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Fremantle

For this year’s Easter Saturday game at the MCG, Simon Goodwin and his Demons wound the clock back a few years to wipe out the horrible memories of last season’s twin thrashings at the hands of the Dockers. And it was about time! Melbourne’s indomitable skipper Max Gawn put in a mammoth performance in shutting out his immediate opponent Sean Darcy in the ruck and around the ground and was a colossus at the end when the game was there to be won or lost. It was won by 16.11.107 to 14.13.97. There was the battery-charged Easter Bunny in Kysaiah Pickett running anyone wearing purple ragged, whether at midfield stoppages or around the big sticks. He finish with a five goal haul.

  • CASEY: UWS Giants

The Casey Demons took on an undefeated UWS Giants outfit at their own home ground on a beautiful autumn day but found themselves completely out of their depth going down by 53 points against a well-drilled and fair superior combination. Despite having 15 AFL listed players at their disposal - far more than in their earlier matches this season - the Demons were never really in the game and suffered their second defeat in a row after their bright start to the season when they drew with the Kangaroos, beat the Suns and matched the Cats for most of the day on their own dung heap at Corio Bay. The Giants were a different proposition altogether. They had a very slight wind advantage in the opening quarter but were too quick off the mark for the Demons, tearing the game apart by the half way mark of the term when they kicked the first five goals with clean and direct football.

The Dees are back at the MCG on Thursday for the annual blockbuster ANZAC Eve game against the Tigers. Can the Demons win back to back games for the first time since Rounds 17 & 18 last season? Who comes in and who goes out?
