Hi all!

In celebration of the upcoming Doug Nicholls Indigenous Round,  I've put together a clip highlighting one of the greatest Demon performances of all time: Jeff Farmer's nine second half goals against the Pies!

Was anyone at the MCG that day?

Yep, behind the goals at the Punt Road end, Wiz was having a poor game, Daniher dragged him (back when being benched actually meant something).

Ben Beams broke his arm at the start of the 3rd quarter, the Wiz went back on and proceeded to rip Collingwood apart. 9 goals in a half, don't see that too often and his shot for his 10th only just went wide.

One of the greatest days I've had at the footy, my Pies supporting mate on the day not so much....

Wasn't even 9 goals in a half- his first goal came almost halfway through the third!

Freak.

(Or, dare I say, wizard)

I was also behind the Coll cheer squad at the punt road end.

So satisfying. When Robbo went up the speccy and Jeff went on top of him - it was beautiful.

Yes, was there. For years I could not believe what he had done, starting in the third quarter. Farmer was hailed as the 'Wizard' by Gary Lyon and how correct was that description? We saw it in so many things he had done in the game. Running to position, taking the speccy, providing a target - it was all there that day. This video should be shown to the current talent at the Club, it demonstrates that if you have the desire, anything can be done. Farmer made it look easy that day - and in reality, most of it was - a thinking footballer who optimised the rest of the team. The Filth were filthy once shat upon.

and on a tangent - god I love(d) Guy Rigoni.

8 goals in a  Prelim.  Thats rare air.  What a player he was.

Too bad he went to Freo.

Forget how good they were back then, team of guns and gun team. Yze's kick to Jeffrey, just pin point. White domination. Crazy.

How good is Ox's 1% shepherd/bump for his 8th... It's team football that gets you to 140's with regular aplomb.

Didn't the Wizard back up the next week with a bag of 7 against Hawthorn as we totally rained on the parade for Salmon's 300th? Amazing player, on his day was unstoppable.

Fixed this for you. He was kicking them from everywhere in 2000, I remember games at Docklands against WCE and Freo where he kicked 7 or 8 each including one off the ground from about 35-40 out near the boundary.

His first half was absolutely diabolical too, he only got back in the third quarter because Ben Beams broke his wrist or arm. Then probably the wildest 30 odd minutes of individual football I've ever seen. The only regret was that he had an easy shot for a 10th and missed

Sick day at the footy that.

Absolutely brilliant.

I too was Punt rd behind the goals. Won’t forget the excitement and anticipation as soon as he started a lead after about his 5th.

I wonder what sort of car he denied Robbo.

Certainly was! Punt Rd end. Couldn’t believe what I was seeing he just kept getting better and better. Magical

I can still see in my mind that off the ground from 35 out. He made it look so easy but I remember thinking had he missed that he probably would have been dragged!

It all went his way that year..

certainly picked his pocket

I was playing footy that day, remember hearing the result and seeing the highlights in the club rooms, it’s a day/moment I’ll never forget. I still don’t think Farmer gets the credit league wide that he deserves, freak of a player.

I was there.

At half time I literally said to bloke sitting next to me (he could have been my sister, can’t remember). “We need the Wiz to kick 10 second half goals”

I promise you.

  • REPORT: Richmond

The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.

After five consecutive defeats, the Demons have now notched up back-to-back victories, comfortably accounting for the Tigers in the traditional ANZAC Eve clash. They surged to a commanding 44-point lead early in the final quarter before easing off the pedal, resting skipper Max Gawn and conceding the last four goals of the game to close out a solid 20-point win.
