Weideman will not be dropped. End of story. Once we are all past that for this week we can start talking about who will really make way for Viney.

ANB and Harmes in particular almost excluded themselves from the conversation with their efforts tonight. It almost has to be Tyson doesn’t it? I’m a Tyson fan but who else do you drop that plays a similar role? Hate to be a selector this week.

It's a good day when there's no clear-cut out for Viney!

But yeah, it probably has to be Tyson or maybe a rest for Spargo?

After watching Goody's presser I think the Weid stays but Vince is in trouble, I would like to see Tyson stay I like him as a footballer.

I think so as well Werridee

Weed won't be dropped. Played a handy role in some early goals and was decent in the ruck. I think the coaches are happy to give him some time so that he can find his feet in the side, similar to Oscar McDonald over the last year or two. Plus he can allow Hogan and McDonald to roam up the ground when required.

The answer is:

IN: Viney

OUT: Tyson

Well, someone has to make way for the skipper. I've always liked Tyson, but its becoming harder and harder to defend him after a mixed performance. His disposal has continuously let him down and he isn't hitting the scoreboard as often as he once did. Both ANB and Harmes, whose spots were probably under the most pressure to keep their spots played their best games of the year and deserve another week.

Whoever gets dropped next week will be unlucky.

Let's wait and see how the Casey game unfolds tomorrow. 5 goals or more to Garlett could pose a fascinating conundrum.

The problem with garlett isn't so much his goal kicking ability. It's his ability to apply pressure when things aren't going our way. I am not sure dumping a Spargo or ANB for Garlett after the past few weeks is a good decision. Jeffy needs to bring the non negotioables for a few weeks to be considered imo. ANB is struggling but he still competes and brings pressure. Unless Garlett is running in a straight line, he's ineffective.

We need to start thinking outside the box

the Rules of The Game Committee has already come up with numerous interesting changes to the game and it’s time they considered 19 players on the field to make the spectacle better

I just had a look at the highlights and Harmes sling tackle doesn't look great he may get a week.

What do other people think?

A bit concerned with what i saw with T mac, just a slight limp after a boundary push over. hope it's nothing but i'm pretty sure i saw something.

That was a great tackle.   The kind of great perfect tackle the AFL love to punish.

I would say Tyson for Viney but Vince could be rested.

I’d love to see Garlett back for Carlton but there’s no chance in hell of that happening

He didn't hurt him so that is in his favour but the AFL are trying to stamp that tackle out.

I said it early in the week that this is the best side we have had since '98.

We are currently 5th and I truly believe we can go all the way with this side.

Hannan saved himself in the last quarter I thought he done nothing for 3 quarters.

IN: VINEY OUT: WEIDEMAN

You are slightly hopped up on goof balls. We haven’t done anything to suggest we can go all the way. We do have the best side we’ve had in a while though.

There's another option - give Viney another week. Why not? I'd rather err on the super cautious side.

Yep, this is a point most wouldnt have considered. Heaven forbid he may even have a poor game tomorrow. At least wait to see how Viney plays before demanding he be promoted. ( Although i personally cant wait to see him in the seniors again )

Hard to change a winning team and all that...........

That's true we haven't done anything yet. Call me crazy but I can just see it. When I see the rest of the sides I think we can beat them all especially with Tommy and Viney back in the side.

Tracc hasnt looked that good since the dog incident. I'd drop him for Viney. Hopefully Jeffy does what he has to do and can come back in for either Spargo or Hannan.

Jeffy will have to kick 10 to get in. Viney will be the only change.

Easy this week.

Out: Tyson

In: Viney

I believe that if Viney gets through this game unscathed and his foot stands up then he will compliment Tyson's game. Wasn't at his best  today but his last 2 weeks have been  very good . With Viney back, he gives leadership and strengthens our midfield.

I think its time for Weide to go back and practice what he's learnt.

Viney in.

I don"t know who the player was but his head  never hit the ground got up immediately and played on. His tackle seemed ok IMO.

No we play the blues this week, but the Crows the following game.

Viney needs an AFL hit-out, prior to the big game against the crows.

Viney needs the game at Casey tomorrow, then come in against the Blues.

Then he should be better prepared for the Crows the following game.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

Melbourne and Hawthorn who face off against each other this week have more in common than having once almost merged and about to wear a blue jumper with a red v triangle and an embroidered picture of a bird on the front.  They also share the MCG as their main home ground, their supporters are associated with the leafy suburbs of Melbourne and in recent times, James Frawley graced the colours of both teams. Even more recently, both have bounced back from disastrous five game losing streaks to start off a season. Of course, the Hawks turned their bounce into a successful leap from the bottom of the ladder into a finals appearance, making it to the semifinals in 2024 and this year, they’re riding high in third place on the AFL table. The Demons are just three games into their 2025 bounce back, and are yet to climb their way out of the bottom four although they are sitting a game and percentage out of the top eight. However, with the current sportsbet odds of $3.90 to win this week’s encounter, it seems a forlorn hope that their upward progression will continue much longer.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

  • POSTGAME: West Coast

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.
