I have question marks over Gus' disposal (particularly by foot over short distances). I don't remember him hitting a target by foot in the first half. In the second he kept it simple and less fancy and was a lot more effective. He was brilliant in fact.

Trac is still learning what he is capable of. He is very ambitious but his ability isn't quite matching his ambition.

A perfect example was in the 3rd quarter against St Kilda when he got given the ball on the wing after a turn-over and looked up at an open forward line with a player free over the back. Ne was probably 70 metres away and Trac tried to kick it there but couldn't quite execute and it dropped short to the Saints player. 

He has good vision and wants to do the extraordinary and when he learns to match his ability with his skill level he will be a gun. A matchwinner. He's only young and still developing.

Gus is a chance to become elite but he is an accumulator, more blue collar. Like Harvey from the Saints by the time both boys hit 25 they will most likely both be top 50 in the league. Great for us to watch them slowly deliver on our hopes and dreams.

I personally don't want to compare Petracc an Gus as l love both of them playing for us. They are going to be super players and help build a great culture  and hopefully lead to a to a premiership .  Need to sign up Gus  sooner rather than later.                                                               How fortunate we are to have both of them.

Yes, he is more rounded but Petracca has more tricks.

I'm still not sold on Brayshaw's kicking (I think he goes to his left foot too often) but the fact that he was able to get the ball so often was a huge tick for me.

I suspect football has always come so easily to Petracca that he has never had to work particularly hard to succeed. For the first time in his football life the expectations of him are now exceeding his performances. I hope he can respond, because he clearly has all the attributes to be a super player. At present though, he is a player who is trying to do several brilliant things a game, rather than a large number of very good things, and he is failing (eg his putrid kicking on Sunday).

Brayshaw looks like someone who has always had to work harder to get to the top, and that will hold him in good stead if he can keep healthy. He'll never be a superstar, but he can be a very good player in a very good team (not the same type of player necessarily, but a Joel Corey / James Kelly type at Geelong).

The biggest issue I have with Petracca is that he is too lippy. I've seen it plenty of times (including telling a supporter to "f... up c..." after over the fence a game) but another example on the weekend of him swearing at the ump and giving away a 50.

Will cost us a game one day when he has his little sook at the wrong time. If you are going to be like that you better be performing but there is a lot of talk and not that much action for me at the moment... 

Meanwhile, Brayshaw is an example of professionalism. Just goes about it, not talking in interviews about being in the hall of fame or whatever, just goes out and performs.

As an overall player, I'd take Gus at my club any day over Trac.

What is the purpose of this thread? We have two of the best prospective genuine A-grade stars of the game and posters are splitting hairs about kicking ability, tank. Their respective abilities complement each other and the team.

It's unseemly and demeaning for our boys and the club. Posters on this thread should show some respect, be grateful for our good fortune and do all to laud both Gus and Tracc.

Granted Trac had a decent 2017. His conversion rate in 2016 was 35% and he's currently sitting at 21% (dead last out of all players on our list) for 2018. Those are terrible numbers. He clearly has conversion issues.

I think some of your observations are off the mark also.

There is a reason Petracca is the 3rd rated small/medium forward on the AFL player ratings behind only Greene and Betts. He is elite at what he does.

very happy to see gus have a great game last week after a second week in the guts

i had massive doubts on his role in the team as a half back / half forward, but his work in the square was great

however, for mine he is a long way behind petracca in terms of being a quality top level afl player 

this was his best game by a mile, but let's see him do it regularly

He looked underdone on the weekend and Saints put a lot of time into him when he was on the ball: I reckon that incident with the 50 was the frustration boiling over. It was the first time I'd noticed him commit an undisciplined act on the field in his career. He is a brash character off the field but tends to contain that very well on the field. 

Oliver and Hogan are far more hot headed than these two.

Not sure we need to compare the two and be happy that we have both of them. If you are judging and comparing them on this past game you must remember that Trac was in a hospital bed for the good part of a week and barely had time on the track.

Same.

His first half on the weekend was pretty average. Fumbles, dodgy disposal.. etc. Second half he was a different player and was excellent.

I'd nothing more than him to become the gun we all know he can be, but a good half of football is a bit too early to make the call, for mine.

I did hear that in his final draft year there were a lot of question marks around Trac's tank, so he went out of his way to build his fitness so he could play through the midfield not just as a high half forward. I suspect that as he builds this even more (big difference between under age and AFL) that he'll demand more time in there, but very happy with what he's doing at the moment, just needs to not try too hard.

Hard to seem them being a danger/selwood or martin/cotchin combo, because you've got to get Oliver and Viney in there too!

Brayshaw's manic attack on the ball and player is back.  He doesn't have Petracca's ceiling, but he can become our Cotchin.

Oliver, Viney, Petracca, and Brayshaw can become the best collective of midfielders in the AFL.

You can tell that Brayshaw really wants it. He wants it bad.  Petracca is a mercurial talent but whether that is fully realised depends on how much he wants it and how hard he is prepared to work.
