Andrew Gaff

North seem to have more salary cap room which makes it interesting; wouldnt be surprised if the Pies make a play if they dont get Lynch.

Clubs have to pay 95% of the cap? So if North had a war chest last year, where did that money go? And why is it spare again? Anyone explain?

Edited by MSFebey

Have heard one scenarion ( from a Geelong supporter) that Geelong could get Gaff. I said they would have trouble with Salary cap. His reply was Kelly wants to go home (do not know why when WC & Freemantle did not want a bar of him over the years). Taylor may be retiring , Ablett is not costing then much and Menzel wants out. So by throwing in a Trade may swing a deal.  Far fetched !!!, but it is amazing how some clubs work their way around things. (Like being a promotions officer for a large sponsor)

Just like we did years ago we paid some contracts in advance which clears up space in future.

Robbo thinks it is WC or North. (I have heard it is WC or Melbourne.)

"All-Australian Gaff clearly is in demand.

The Kangaroos believe it’s between them and West Coast and while St Kilda is making noises about wanting to talk to Gaff — and any player who has a pulse, for that matter — they accept he isn’t going to call Moorabbin home."

Have you heard so from a credible source or just general noise? The noise around Melbourne getting him has gone very quiet! (Not necessarily a bad thing though)

Cheers mate, but that's a hell of a lot of money!

Last year the sal cap went up by $2+m per annum.  North didn't use it all.

New cap is $12.6m @95% they can save $630k per annum and stockpile.  So $630k becomes $1.26m then $1.71m.  So they could easily have a 'war chest' of around $1.0 - 1.5m just from stockpiling.  Not sure how many years it can be stockpiled - it used to be 3 years but don't know now.

Thanks LH, that makes sense otherwise there would be dodgy happenings going on. I didn't know they could stockpile it so cheers.

That may also be the reason Mahoney is on record saying we can afford 2 A graders this year, hmmm the plot thickens.....

A guy called Brad Hardie reckons Gaff is a good chance to go to Ess:

"Right now the Bombers might be the most intriguing of them. (North. Ess. Melb). My information is that Gaff met with them twice last week and John Worsfold is the bloke who gave him his start in the league."

https://www.perthnow.com.au/sport/west-coast-eagles/brad-hardie-andrew-gaff-in-crosshairs-for-wooshas-bombers-ng-b88927628z

Does this Hardie guy have reasonable credibility?

If we don't get Gaff I hope we have someone else in the pipeline as our loses show we desperately need someone who is a very good kick.

Nah he's a shocker, up there with Morris, Langdon, Whateley, McClure and Hagdorn.

Plus the upfront payments. Players like Fritsch for example who would be on base pay of say $100k for 2 years, you might say we'll pay you $200k this year and nothing for the next year.

Need not too worry about all the commentary on Gaff!

Do you have some solid mail, Dee?

I also see you have Darcy Moore listed as one of your favourite players... hmmm!

There’s no way that any deal is 100% done at this time of year.

I find it hard to imagine that being true.

After the Tom Lynch/ Buckley meeting fallout, I can't imagine Gaff taking the risk of meeting with any other club officials last week - especially in the same week of his tribunal hearing!

Every year for the last four years Hardie has stated he has inside information that Hogan will be going home. He has no idea.

Another option is NIIJSG = no idea it just sounds good.

This applies to a large proportion of posts.

Welcome to demonland Jason Taylor.

The cretins on Bomberblitz reckon they've got him, and they always seem to have the good dope.

  • PREVIEW: Richmond

Who would have imagined, when the season kicked off early last month, that Melbourne would emerge from the opening six weeks with wins over both Queensland powerhouses? At the time, Gold Coast and Brisbane were the competition’s early pace-setters, the flavours of the month, and the prospect of the Demons toppling both within the course of a fortnight seemed remote. Yet here they are, banking those scalps alongside home victories over two traditional Victorian rivals and building a quietly impressive resume.
