he is not a line coach - ie primarily responsible for the fwds/mids/defs so the reporter is full of BS

Yes,  that is his Matchday role, he is never in the box, what a [censored] joke and the usual nuff nuffs on here  run with it

I was of the understanding McCartney has been in the coaches box so far this season as he has been assisting Chaplin with backline coaching duties.

I also had this belief. But I find it hard to think a Melbourne supporter who does our weekly podcast would be unaware of this.

Perhaps he knows more than us given the contacts he would have within the club.

I'm sure he will read this, so I look forward to hearing him addressing the criticism like he did on the previous podcast.

Saty, I know you think you know it all.

But this was reported by a Melbourne supporter who does the offical podcast weekly. It was also said with Paul Roos ,who would have knowledge of each persons role within the football department, sitting next to him.

If he says he was in the box the last 4 weeks, I know who I am believing.

Check the vision, he is aiways down on the bench, Roos was at the club 2 years ago, the whole set up has changed in that time, why woukd Macca who likes to be close to the action move into the bax, beggars belief.

Thre reason the journo does the podcast is to provide an independent voice so the said same nuff nuffs don't whinge about it being a puff piece

He has already produced a piece that Angus Brayshaw found not only insulting but comical

McCartney is resposible for both player and coach development

I would love for you to show me some vision or direct me to it, of McCartney on the bench in the opening 4 rounds.

Essentially you are saying he has made up this story.

The Brayshaw piece, while a buch of fluff essentially just said Fremantle would be interested in Brayshaw. I don't see how Brayshaw would find that insulting. If you interpreted it differently, that is on you and Angus, not him.

Hard to develop coaches if he is kicked out of the box by those he is trying to develop....

Anyone thought that maybe they were trying him back in the Coaches Box, but given what happened last week, they’ve moved him back down to the bench where he can get closer to the players?

Only 10 more minutes and we can start the Game Day thread. Yippee!!!

To be fair, Roos answered the question put to him and stated that it would be unusual for a "line" coach to be on the bench, but that he didn't know what role Macca was playing.

I would suggest that McCartney on rhe bench mwans we can sub him into the game for James Harmes.  Also why Viney will be on bench. This I know.

Viney is actually gonna be in the Stat box apparently.

Does anyone have a link to any replays?  Now I wanna see if B Mac has already been sitting on the bench.

Is it fake news, is the sky falling or neither?

Not 100% sure but is that McCartney between Chaplin and Mahoney?

Footage provided by  @Lucifer's Hero  a few days ago.

Morris also wrote that rubbish piece recently about Freo “chasing” Hoges and Brayshaw... he also wrote the piece about Goody offering his resignation after campgate and then “slept in” when Goody was on the Dees podcast the week after.

He seems like a typical journo..

Was vaguely concerned after reading the general thrust of this thread. Not so now.  Thanks for sharing Cards. While there may be a kernel of truth somewhere in the story, it's a shame modern journos feel the need to sensationalise - whether it be internal media pressure, pandering to a mindless audience, or plain simple ego to break something big. I'll be taking a grain of salt with that kernel. And if there are a few minor internal problems, it's clear then that the club is moving to address them. A modern workplace.

Been waiting for this. What happened with McCartney at the dogs? Needs to go imo

He developed a group of Premiership players that Beveridge was the beneficiary of!

Morris just doesn’t have the runs on the board for mine so massive grain of salt.

If you listen to the MFC podcast (actually a good listen as they do ask the hard questions) Morris mentions he was taken to task over the Freo “story”, that was one of my mates at work who really questions how Morris is going about things.

PJ was on the last one (what a man!) and was really annoyed by a question about is Goody a good coach.

I would not be surprised if Morris is no longer on the podcast come seasons end, or earlier even though I’m glad the club is not sanitising said podcast.

McCartney was definitely in the box during the Brisbane game.

I can vividly recall him giving Goodwin an almighty death stare after we fell over the line, as the cameras captured it.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
