Hope Maxxy can ruck all day - he will need to.

God forbid Gawn or Hogan cops an injury at some point. We'll end up with Frost in the ruck and Kent at full forward.

I am sincerely sorry that my football intelligence doesn’t match the all mighty @jnrmac, you knew exactly what I meant, have an additional big defender in the team just in case the oppositions most important player gets off the leash, we can push Frost back into defense to stem the tide, I’ll make sure on my 10 minute lunch break to ensure I explain myself better ?

Most of Brown's best work is on the lead and high marking.  Not saying O-Mac wont be minding him at some point but this would be the poorer of the two options IMO.  Frost has the pace and leap.  Not quite as good at finding his man though or hustling one on one but he would be expecting help in this sort of situation much of the time.  Frost also has greater ability to run off Brown and make him chase hard up the field, which may limit Brown's tank to make multiple leads when the ball comes back again.  The flip side to that is Frost is a bit prone to turnovers, probably more so than O-Mac.  Better option would be to run / carry then handball to a runner (Hibberd / Others) coming from behind then find Brown again ASAP.

With Frost heading off on the run and leaving Brown in his wake (hopefully) this is where Lever's expertise should be utilised if the ball comes back in again quickly on the turnover.  Him & O-Mac will need to stay within reach for the spoil attempts as best as possible.  Suspect North will look to limit us here taking those intercept players deep or on the other side to where Brown might be leading.

Yeah, I realise that the tough bit will be on the lead, so we have to plug the hole, which is Levers intercept role.

Other small/med defenders can also help out with this.

Frost can run off either Brown Waite or Goldy.   If he's on Waite I reckon he could run the old fox ragged.

I'm not sure if Frost has the aerial skills & strength to stop BBrown overhead.   That's my main concern.

Wagner, in the eyes of the coaching staff, who are the only ones that matter, has obviously played his role to the standard or above they expect, so he keeps his place

I think he has done ok as well

Bugg the same

I think the Frost v Waite matchup is a really interesting one. Wherever Frost is played (forward or back) I can't see Waite keeping up with his pace. Frost could be a massive headache for North if he can run and carry out of the backline. Maybe that forces North to play Waite back to reduce Frost rebounding out of the backline?

Either way this is a really key matchup and holds a bit of interest for me. Looking forward to it.

In Vic for a home game for the first time in a couple of years. Taking the 5 year old for his first MCG experience. Cannot [censored] wait

Full credit to the MFC membership dept. Let them know as an interstate member and an Auskick member and they're throwing us a couple of 'Premium' seat tickets for the lads first game.

The club has got its [censored] together these days

Can’t believe Bugg is getting another run. No Brayshaw again, just can’t understand why he would not be in the team!

The MC have shown that they will very rarely bring someone in, only to drop them the following week. Maynard is the only example I can think of.

I reckon Bugg will go if he doesn't lay tackles and kicks goals this week.

I think Goody gives every player a fair chance for their development, which from the outer may seem to the teams short term detriment and playing favs. But from a long term perspective, it is probably needed. Melksham or JKH in past years are good examples. His persistence payed off for the former. I just hope he's prepared to drop Melk, Wags or others if they put in multiple poor performances.

Bugg and Wagner were fine enough to warrant this coming weeks selection imo

I'm not sure either DV but he's the only tall defender we have, outside of T-Mac, who can stay with him on the lead.  If you can't match him on the lead you will have zero chance of stopping him overhead.  May as well put Nev in him ?

At 200cms  & 101Kgs, no one will stop BBrown overhead, if the Roos get to kick, to him.

We have to stop their disposals with real pressure every time they go forward from the wings.

Oscar at 196cms  & 100 kgs is best bet to match him in a standoff. Not big enough for Goldy, and not mobile enough for Waite.

I don't want Waite taking Oscar into out forward half.

I don’t think there is that much height between Oscar and Brown. I remember seeing them standing next to each other last year and thinking that Oscar is taller than his listed 196cm.

Where Brown will get him is on the lead but then we will need a Lever or Hibberd to intercept. Realistically if they can do that consistently we will win.

I was going to quote Oscar at 198cms, until I read his stats on footywire.  But they may not have been updated?

Frost is 95kgs apparently.

The closer this game gets, the less confident i become.

Prove me wrong boys. Please prove me wrong.

I'm the opposite. The more i see a bunch of Nth Fans sledging us on other forums, the more i feel we've reached peak-streak and they'll have egg on their face in under 24 hours with this over-confidnce. They're just getting all of their sledges out before they lose the oppurtunity! :D I know the game isn't won or lost by fans, but i just have a feeling that we'll have them covered in a very tough fought match.
