The Ox and Marko sacked by SEN

Featured Replies

i think a few on here under-estimate Hutchy and his business acumen.

He will turn SEN into a national broadcaster and continue selling content to it through Crocmedia.

Totally understanderable in the mines, but just shocking treatment from a radio studio, when no warning was given at all

Hutchison has no social skills at all.

He is 10 x worse than the Ox on air if you have heard him on Saturday Mornings.

He is just a mouthpiece for McDonald’s Advertising...

never bothered to fit an antenna to my stereo for commercial radio, and don't even have free to air TV at home.

Have no idea who most of the mentioned names are.

Hope Ox can find some work soon. Always jobs going in the mines. Maybe I can swing something for him ;)

These two guys worked there for 12 and 14 years and were basically told to p-ss off, hand in your pass now and get out of the station immediately. Surely after that long a little more respect is due.

For Sen December is killing time, in the middle of AFL, off season not much is happening, huchy is the most unpopular media presenter in the AFL world, he might be good behind the scenes, he is good at door stopping hiding behide bushes.

Would the ox get a handy payout after having been there that long? Either LSL or severance payout?

Just watch this space...

They have been angling to get Hird on, it won't be drive time but they did a nice little softener with Mike Sheahan and Lyon using him as some kind of expert on something that slips my mind now. There was no context just an excuse to test the waters.

That will be the end of SEN for me...

Well this is interesting because my first reaction was who are the replacements! Appalling treatment of employees by the way, and this speaks volumes of the management, are we talking Hutchy and Doctor Turd? I liked the Ox for his sense of humour and Marko for his golf but if you are listening it is not for intellectual depth for heaven's sake. I think SEN is on the way out. Garry Lyon is hard work in the mornings, KB is gold mid morning but now they have nought till Finey in the night who I find irritating but some like. If we are talking Hirdy forget it, the great non personality surely?

i never listen to sen, but what a bastard way to terminate two long-standing employees. i hope there is karma coming.

Similar non personality to Lyon...but they're just dying to get him on air.

Agree on KB, he is gold and still going strong but how much longer can he carry the station for?

Einstein Frawely is being set up to take one of the available spots for certain and I notice they've got Michael Christian on in the mornings so he might be another. I just can't listen to him, like watching paint dry he's that boring.

Rjay if they are setting up Spud Frawley, they are struggling surely? Or am I misjudging the audience? Maybe it is me but Spud is a not very interesting relic of the 70's and talks like he is still in the change rooms from when he played. Very cringeworthy at times, blokey talk about not getting enough from the missus, [censored] ups with mates etc. And importantly not much analysis of the games when he is supposed to be talking about it rather than him so what is the attraction?

Last friday morning there was 4 Collingwood people on in a row, it was absurd.

Danny Frawley being groomed for sure.

2 words: Why Bother?

If I go into work tomorrow morning and give notice, I'll get 4 weeks pay + my entitlements, escorted to clean out my stuff, then escorted off the site.  It's a pretty common practice across all fields.  It's not that they think you will sabotage the place, it's that in those 4 weeks you can gather some pretty good intel to take to a competitor. And you add that to a booting... well, it's a lot safer to pay them out than have them around.

It's a sad fact, but a true one, that business is not run on feelings. It's run on what is good for the business, and feelings be damned. People come and people go, but the business lives on.

David Schwarz who, along with Mark Allen, were sacked by SEN when their programme ended last night.

Is it Hutchy’s Crocmedia that owns the station?

Not quite. The owners of SEN (and some other media assets) is the ASX listed Pacific Star Network. A couple of weeks ago Pacific Star Network announced that it had formed some sort of agreement with Croc Media (a joint venture maybe?) and that Craig Hutcheson would be the new CEO.

I'm not sure if that deal has closed or whether Hutcheson has taken up the CEO role yet. The end of the Schwarz and Marco show may or may not be unrelated to the changes. However, as annoying as some people find him on air,  Hutcheson clearly has an eye for sports media and appears to have been very successful growing Croc Media over the last 10 years.

The only good thing to come out of us missing the finals was I stopped listening to the radio (which included a lot of SEN) and started listening to podcasts.

This morning on the way to work I turned on SEN for a brief minute and heard Danny Frawley talking about Collingwood's injury problems.  It's December.

As for Craig Hutchison, the sight and sound of him makes my skin crawl, I wouldn't trust him as far as I could throw him.

Crocmedia fined $24,000 for exploiting young workers

He's the kind of person that would commercialise every aspect of the AFL (even more so than is done now) just to make a quick buck even if that commercialisation would in the long-run ruin what it is that people love about the game.

Agree. How he ever coached the Tigers for 5 years is staggering.

Not sure, but if he worked on contracts probably not.

Dunno if im allowed a shameless plug on here (so mods delete if you must) but if you like history podcasts my mate and I make one telling different stories of rebellion and resistance.

Also SEN sucks with or without Schwarta

They were painful, so I'm not surprised.

Any word on their replacement?

I think the station recognises quality on-air talent. The best example is coaxing back Frances Leach who is able to converse on all sports and his highly articulate - a true broadcaster.  KB is another example of a true broadcaster who just happens to be an ex-champion.  Lyon and Watson also.

I see this as improving the stable, albeit its tough on those leaving and much sympathy to them. The Drive show was a standout weakness for the business.

I'd be mortified thought if Hird was appointed.

I heard about 20 minutes this morning

They were still playing ads with The Ox Flogging a BBQ

it was just all class.

SEN keep Garry Lyon who is the worst voice to hear at 6am and give the Ox the boot ?

So has Ox been sacked from calling AFL games as well or just from the Drive Home programme?

In my line of work (topless barman), rolled over 12 mth contracts counts towards LSL and severance pay. If he hasnt already, Ox might do well to give Fair Work a call

Sen is now on my [censored] list

U knew what u got with the Ox and it was good listening to him.

He was the only reason I started listening to sen but no more.

  • PREVIEW: Brisbane

And just like that, we’re Narrm again. Even though the annual AFL Sir Doug Nicholls Round which commemorates the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture to our game has been a welcome addition to our calendar for ten years, more lately it has been a portent of tough times ahead for we beleaguered Narrm supporters. Ever since the club broke through for its historic 2021 premiership, this has become a troubling time of the year for the club. For example, it all began when Melbourne rebranded itself as Narrm across the two rounds of the Sir Doug Nicholls Round to become the first club to adopt an Indigenous club name especially for the occasion. It won its first outing under the brand against lowly North Melbourne to go to 10 wins and no losses but not without a struggle or a major injury to  star winger Ed Langdon who broke his ribs and missed several weeks. In the following week, still as Narrm, the team’s 17 game winning streak came to an end at the hands of the Dockers. That came along with more injuries, a plague that remained with them for the remainder of the season until, beset by injuries, the Dees were eliminated from the finals in straight sets. It was even worse last year, when Narrm inexplicably lowered its colours in Perth to the Waalit Marawar Eagles. Oh, the shame of it all! At least this year, if there is a corner to turn around, it has to be in the direction of something better. To that end, I produced a special pre-game chant in the local Narrm language - “nam mi:wi winnamun katjil prolin ambi ngamar thamelin amb” which roughly translated is “every heart beats true for the red and the blue.” >y belief is that if all of the Narrm faithful recite it long enough, then it might prove to be the only way to beat the Brisbane Lions at the Gabba on Sunday. The Lions are coming off a disappointing draw at Marvel Stadium against a North Melbourne team that lacks the ability and know how to win games (except when playing Melbourne). Brisbane are, however, a different kettle of fish at home and have very few positional weaknesses. They are a midfield powerhouse, strong in defence and have plenty of forward options, particularly their small and medium sized players, to kick a winning score this week after the sting of last week’s below par performance.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

There was a time during the current Melbourne cycle that goes back to before the premiership when the club was the toughest to beat in the fourth quarter. The Demons were not only hard to beat at any time but it was virtually impossible to get the better them when scores were close at three quarter time. It was only three or four years ago but they were fit, strong and resilient in body and mind. Sadly, those days are over. This has been the case since the club fell off its pedestal about 12 months ago after it beat Geelong and then lost to Carlton. In both instances, Melbourne put together strong, stirring final quarters, one that resulted in victory, the other, in defeat. Since then, the drop off has been dramatic to the point where it can neither pull off victory in close matches, nor can it even go down in defeat  gallantly.

  • CASEY: Footscray

At twenty-four minutes into the third term of the game between the Casey Demons and Footscray VFL at Whitten Oval, the visitors were coasting. They were winning all over the ground, had the ascendancy in the ruck battles and held a 26 point lead on a day perfect for football. What could go wrong? Everything. The Bulldogs moved into overdrive in the last five minutes of the term and booted three straight goals to reduce the margin to a highly retrievable eight points at the last break. Bouyed by that effort, their confidence was on a high level during the interval and they ran all over the despondent Demons and kicked another five goals to lead by a comfortable margin of four goals deep into the final term before Paddy Cross kicked a couple of too late goals for a despondent Casey. A testament to their lack of pressure in the latter stages of the game was the fact that Footscray’s last ten scoring shots were nine goals and one rushed behind. Things might have been different for the Demons who went into the game after last week’s bye with 12 AFL listed players. Blake Howes was held over for the AFL game but two others, Jack Billings and Taj Woewodin (not officially listed as injured) were also missing and they could have been handy at the end. Another mystery of the current VFL system.

Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.
