Wow, 12 months of work by the recruiters results in us reading out the name of a midget with bad shoulders with our first pick. This ought to end well.

Judd had crook shoulders, .......just sayin....

Me senses a healthy dose of small-man syndrome. Strikes already as having the potential to be an annoying little [censored]. Our annoying little [censored].

Honestly, the photo's are quite reassuring.  Look at the focus on his face when he's kicking.  He may not have the body, but that makes me think he might have the mental side covered.  Hope I'm not reading too much into a few pictures.

170 cm is midget who doesnt know that?

Ive had it up to here with midgets

I’ve seen his height listed at anywhere between 172 and 175cm. And I’ve also learnt to make little of “official” measurements.

I stated in a previous post that at 17 the kid’s probably still growing and may well end up around Jack Viney’s height. And that’s more than acceptable, especially if the kid can play!

Happy with this pickup. I was hoping either him or Bailey would slip to our first pick and we landed Spargo. He's a talent. Decent pace, great agility, great competitor, can rack up ball and chime in with goals. He'd be perfect to play up forward for the first few years of his careers to partner up with Jeffy. He could be added to the midfield rotation over time or own a small forward role. Though he's small, he's a competitor and take down his share of bigger players over his time.

Welcome Charlie!

I'd be happy if this guy has some of the qualities of Milne ( Saints ) and that annoying demented dwarf who played for Freo ( forgot his name )

Not any of the anti social illegal qualities of either of those two though !!!!

Ballantyne !! He's the one !

The paper had North Melbourne recruiting a ruckman 76cm tall and weighing 201kg! Don’t believe everything you read! ?

I thank our lucky stars that we have the best recruiting people in Jason Taylor leading them. the strike rate of picking in the draft over the last 3 to 4 years has been second to none. Have a  look at our draft picks of recent years with Jason there.

I've been around here for awhile now. While the signs do look good, its still to early to tell.

Similar things were said on here about Craig Cameron when he was our recruiter. While I dont think he did a bad job, he certainly got talked up here until things went sour.

Edit: Also helped that Craig posted on here every so often! I always appreciated that.

Yes, Craig did a reasonable job and he has moved on. You say the signs do look good and it's still early to tell. Now that's sounds promising, wouldn't you say.  We, all of us here want to see the club succeed.  I bought my first membership for $1.25  in 1967. Fifty consecutive years as a member. I like to be around a while too.

I've been around for a while too but I can't recall getting in for 5 cents a game

Please post your $1.25 proof

Back in my day I walked 50kms to get to a game, through the snow. A Four n Twenty was 2c and that included a squirt of Rosella sauce and a pint.

Elegantly posited, Skuit. Can you imagine Leigh Matthews tolerating such prejudice?

I got into a Melb-Rich game back in 1960 for free! Tickets were issued at skool as I lived in the Richmond zone in Melb, in Malvern,  and we had pies and pasties with heap'sa dead horse on top carried on trays by some of the greats and I remember Jack Dyer farnarkling around spilling soft drinks and cordial as he progressed through the crowd! But, I loved the Demons, even then....so it was a win, win, win and pretty special.

Had to be said...

Spargo will be a massive addition to us. The main reasons why he dropped down the draft order was due to his height, and shoulder issues. This kid is an absolute jet, I know talent when I see it. Watch him play predominantly forward early in his career, not only kicking goals and applying much needed forward pressure but even taking contested marks (think Jamie Elliott).

His vision and kicking are elite also. When he develops more of a tank, will be pressed into the midfield as his delivery inside 50 will be a weapon.

Watch this space folks.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.

It's Game Day and the Demons have a chance to notch up their third consecutive win — something they haven’t done since Round 5, 2024. But to do it, they’ll need to exorcise the Demons of last year’s disastrous trip out West. Can the Dees continue their momentum, right the wrongs of that fateful clash, and take another step up the ladder on the road to redemption?
