Now that the AFL have OK'd the Shuey free, surely he is on Geelong's radar.  What a centreline they will have!

Given the game situation I'm not sure why people are having a go at Shuey. He played the situation perfectly, also a normal speed I can understand why the free was given.

If that was any Dees player I would want him to do the same thing.

I think it's fitting that one of the lowest standard games of the year was decided by the type of umpiring decision that's making an absolute mess of the game. This was an embarrassment that both teams deserved to lose.

Which makes it hurt all the more.

The 'go' is at the AFL for pathetically supporting a bad umpiring decision that contravenes their own updated interpretation.  The decision is just bad no matter who the player or what jumper he is wearing!  I was an impartial viewer watching in normal speed and called the arm raise immediately.

THE AFL umpiring department has given the all clear to the free kick paid to West Coast midfielder Luke Shuey in the final minute of the Eagles' thrilling extra-time win over Port Adelaide on Saturday night.

Port Adelaide was leading by four points with 17 seconds to go when umpire Chris Donlon awarded a free kick against Jared Polec for high contact on Shuey in the Eagles' forward 50.

The star Eagle kicked a goal after the siren to steal victory from the Power, earning his side a semi-final against Greater Western Sydney next Saturday night.

Despite claims Shuey drew the free kick by shrugging his shoulder, the League has stood by Donlon's decision, telling AFL.com.au on Sunday the correct call was made.

The AFL also emphasised the importance of viewing the incident in real time, and not slow motion on replay.  Of course not - it proves the AFL wrong!

Earlier this year, the AFL tightened its interpretation on high contact, declaring if a tackle is reasonable and the ball carrier is responsible for the high contact via a "shrug, drop, arm lift or duck, play on should be called".

In its review of the Shuey decision on Sunday morning, the umpiring department did not view the Eagles' midfielder to have significantly contributed to the high contact.

@Ding1 works with a port players mother. He is ALWAYS fishing for info about Ollie.

Any news dingbat?

She swears he loves the club and wouldnt leave for quids.

I ask her to tell him that he wouldnt be coming to MFC for "Quids" alone, as there would also be the premierships. :)

I get laughed at every time.

*shrug.

Funny that we had the exact same situation and it was TMAC who took the tackle and kicked the goal instead of playing for the high free. Though if it was 40 out it would've been goal of the century.

Not a Melbourne one but I've heard Tom Rockliff will sign with the Hawks.

I wonder which player(s) from Hawthorn will be involved in the trade.

He's a free agent, isn't he?

Can't see them satisfying Brissy with a trade, I know they've got 2 first rounders but they'll be something like picks 14 and 16, so might need to trade down to get the pick/s that Brissy might demand. I wonder if we could send pick 10, plus something else to Richmond to get their 2 first rounders, maybe our 2nd this year as well. Then use 2 first rounders, either as a trade (Lever/Gaff etc) and still get a young player - not a huge difference between a player rated at pick 10 compared to pick 16?

They could do a Cloke like the Dogs, add a player with attitude issues who could struggle and change the dynamic of the forward line and bring the rest down and cost them a few games next year and a top 8 spot, after winning a premiership.

10 and 27 should do it. Upgrading 7 spots! Great idea I think.

One would think Collingwood, St Kilda, North, Carlton and even Geelong are crying out for a KPF.  Whether he gets to Rich depends how generous Lions feel to get him to the club of his choice rather than just back to Victoria, as he is under contract.

The kid did himself no favours by re-signing mid year.  Feel for him - very poorly advised.

He signed mid yr to take the media focus off himself, smart move IMO, if he didn't sign the attention would be 10 fold...

Just saw an article on the age website, with his manager saying he is definitely not leaving. Also, Peter Ryan says he is just moving house, but Jay Clarke thinks he's gone...

Sure it removed the immediate pressure but will make it harder to get to club of his choice.

The old adage of "Cutting off the nose to spite the face" comes to mind.

"Josh will not be requesting a trade, he is very happy at Brisbane," His Manager Davce Trotter told Fairfax Media.

Does that mean he might go if someone offers a trade?

sounds like - he won't be requesting, however the club are aware of their duty of care to ensure that someone with well being/lifestyle/personal issues who clearly doesn't want to engage in the process within their club is still looked after (and they still get a deal of someone with potential) - I dare say all parties will be happy if Brisbane can get something that matches what satisfies them to get him off their books...

  • REPORT: Collingwood

The media focus on the fiery interaction between Max Gawn and Steven May at the end of the game was unfortunate because it took away the gloss from Melbourne’s performance in winning almost everywhere but on the scoreboard in its Kings Birthday clash with Collingwood at the MCG. It was a real battle reminiscent of the good old days when the rivalry between the two clubs was at its height and a fitting contest to celebrate the 2025 Australian of the Year, Neale Daniher and his superb work to bring the campaign to raise funds for motor neurone disease awareness to the forefront. Notwithstanding the fact that the Magpies snatched a one point victory from his old club, Daniher would be proud of the fact that his Demons fought tooth and nail to win the keenly contested game in front of 77,761 fans.

  • POSTGAME: Collingwood

Despite effectively playing against four extra opponents, the Dees controlled much of the match. However, their inaccuracy in front of goal and inability to convert dominance in clearances and inside 50s ultimately cost them dearly, falling to a heartbreaking one-point loss on King’s Birthday.
