Interesting to hear this morning that Sam Mclure had mentioned  Josh Kelly was being sounded out by every single Victorian club but Melbourne was on top of that list. He then did say that Kelly was set to turn down offers and remain at GWS for 2 more years.

Is it too late to offer Grimes, Terlich, Jones and Michie? Four for one is a pretty good deal right!?

Remember when we used to actually suggest trades like this?

Im a bit sceptical about this one..

why would anyone want to leave the giants? Sure he might have to take a pay cut but they might win the next 5 flags

Salem, Hunt....put the band back together with Kelly.

Why not?

That's what GWS would want for a trade.

GWS will become a destination club for players wanting a flag. Last time I checked Kelly hadn't won a flag...he isn't heading anywhere anytime soon.

Usual off season bull dust journalism

He's exactly what we need, gut running and outside class. Not that we don't need Tyson and Salem just as much, but we already have them! Certainly no point having that debate again!

I'm sure the club would have a list of out of contract players around the league and they'd probably have lists of the best players per positions of need. Kelly would be high up on both.

Dustin Martin has put off contract talks till end of year, he is a free agent so wouldn't cost anything but wouldn't be cheap so I doubt we could get him

A destination for guys like Griffen, Mumford, Shaw, Deledio. And a spot that some young draftees enjoy more the battling QLD teams. Some guys will enjoy the club and enjoy anonymity.

But I think they'll always be plenty of guys keen to come back to Victoria and play for teams down here but they won't be picking the bad (or small) Victoria teams unless it's unique circumstances like the Boyd deal.

Certainly think Kelly stays given how close they are to a flag. Might be interesting to see what happens if they win a couple and players decide they want fresh challenges but I hope that doesn't happen.

I wonder how true that is. I could imagine some players would see a GWS flag as a bit unreal, not connected to any footy history compared with being part of a flag by an old establshed team, while others may see being in early GWS flags as big thing to be in at the beginning of new history.  I reckon most would much prefer a flag with an old club, but I can see that desire being beaten by the desire for a flag, any flag and GWS giving the best probability.

I'll call it..Melbourne has as much chance of a Flag before the Giants.

Yep I'm mad.....or am I ?

We;ll be up and running this year. We can beat the Giants..we actually know how... bizarre at that is..cant beat other teams we ought to but somehow we have'm worked out.

Point being.. No  team is a monty for the Granny.

They havent the miles on the board yet...one day...they will ...not yet.

Players will start coming to us...just you watch.......oh wait  ...

We need to learn how to beat St Kilda, North, EssUndone before we can be nearly satisfied and thinking about finals.

When did we last beat them up there?

We beat them in round 23 in 2015 in a game where they had about 12 out, wasn't really an AFL standard game. Then we fluked a win in round 1 this year when they ran all over us for the middle half of the game and kicked a bucket load of points.

I think the formula for beating them is pretty simple - smash them at the contest, isolate defenders, cut down their outside run - but I'm not convinced we'll do it again any time soon. We'll have to show our run is dramatically improved this year and we'll have to have the skills at a high level like they were in round 1.

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
