There was an article in the HSun saying Bugg should have been suspended longer because he has a history of being a defendant  at the tribunal. In other words players have hit him therefore he must have been doing something wrong to deserve the hit. Beggars belief.

Why are people surprised by errors in the media?

Every time I have known the facts of a story in the media they have got some wrong.

1 Wedding notice & photo provided with names and correct details. The local paper got 3 things wrong including who the best man was.

2  Son interviewed for story and they misquoted him twice. 

3 TV reports that a local fire was out and we watched the fire continue, 3 days later they were still aerially fire bombing the so called extinguished  fire.

I now no longer watch news services, and consider most reporting to be opinion pieces based on overworked,  under resourced or lazy hacks. Take what you read and hear with a grain of salt.

The acts of Bugg, Hogan, Lewis, Salem etc didn't help the MFC. It hurts us.  

Also agree with this sentiment...all these undisciplined acts cost us dearly ...what I am disputing is that he has "done the time" so if his form warrants & he is picked for the seniors then I support him fully ....I don't think he merits any further criticism or punishment!

This is my argument for not picking him.  The only difference is that I don't think it was having him in the side that was the reason we had mojo to begin with, but his act definitely went at least part way towards us losing it.

Our late season derailment coincided with the Sydney match and Bugg's brainfart. What followed was a relentless media campaign that dragged our club and Bugg through the mud. 

There's no doubt in my mind that this had a huge effect on the club and players. 

You missed an option that some people might like to vote for.

Its tougher than one would think. If Viney somehow doesn't get up he could be in the mix, otherwise Casey it is for me.

i'll go on record here as i like Bugg. have known him for a few years - really nice guy. 

His suspension for a brain fart is over. he was hung dried and quartered, time to move on people

he is Melbourne football club player. is he a deadset gun... no. does he come in as an automatic, no. Were we playing better as a team with him playing well.. yes. Probably needs match fitness at Casey this week. would i be upset if the match committee thought we need his niggle and bring him in straight away, no.

all this crap about earning back trust is just noise and nonsense.

he will play if and when his fitness and form versus the other blokes in his role(s) warrants - amd that is the be all and end all

It was also our 4th game off a 6 day break from recollection.

I do like the guy as well. He brings something to the table and its kind of nice to see a player for us with a little swagger. However an auto-in he is not, even before all that hoo hah he wasn't a walk up start by any stretch of the imagination. Have him in the mix by all means but he's gotta earn his spot again.

Take the knocks, hits, niggles and high tackles  and go out and win the bloody game for your mates.

Anyone can snap another player off the ball. It takes no skill whatsoever. The real skill is holding back and rubbing your opponent's face in it by getting 3 votes.

Bugg has paid for his mistakes but he let his side down big time. He needs to redeem himself by controlling his aggression and winning games.

the only way bugg can lift his profile with team-mates (if he really needs to) is to play great footy in the afl. that trumps all.

Is it just me or do other not mind some of our players having a nasty streak that can make other sides think. He just needs to be smarter with how he impacts opponents (throwing a punch in open space obviously isn't smart aggression). Looking at Hawthorn's premierships sides of the past, they have had a sprinkling of those edgy types of players that have been reported i.e. Hodge, Mitchell, Lewis,

If you are talking the Jason Johannisen/Bulldogs game you are wrong as he played OK, scored 2 goals from memory.

I don't recall any baiting of the Swans prior to the game. Did I miss that?

I admire the toughness of Harmes, Viney and Oliver.

Their aggression on the ball is awesome and helps us wins games.

When Buggy starts playing like them perhaps he can start throwing his weight around.

I just want him to come in and niggle Collingwood, kick 2-3 goals and make Buckley, Howe and Dunn's lives miserable. Casey this weekend then back with a vengeance for the Pies!

To me this was one of the signs that told me he didn't mean to do what actually happened. 

Take an unsighted swing at an opponent who had just elbowed him in the ribs? Yes.  Get him one in the head? Maybe.  Knock him cold? Certainly not. 

 

Watch how Bugg reacts. When he sees Mills down he suddenly props and looks around.  He didn't intend the outcome and was spooked by it all day.

Agreed. I don't think that the club should do anything more. If he is fit and deserves a spot them pick him. However, if he is on 300K a year that is nearly 80K of talent sitting the stands the last 6 weeks. The club does have a right to be grumpy about that though, so if he is put in the naughty corner, I'd understand.
