dosent fill me with confidence , but anyone who follows titus oreily might have read today something along the lines

"both supporters can tell you why they can't win the game but none can tell you why they can"

I get the feeling this could blow out really badly either side and be a 40 point win or loss.

Filled with dread about this game. Will be genuinely surprised if we have enough class on the park to kick a winning score. And with no Watts or Salem I'm not sure how we even link up to get the ball inside 50.

Admittedly St Kilda haven't been in amazing form which is similar to us – but they have hunger and intensity which can snowball into impressive momentum as they run and run, similar to GWS. We need to be prepared for that.

If we don't win this, we won't get into the finals - but we won't deserve to be either.

Happy with the changes, a bit stiff for Maynard, but understand.

Good changes.

Both teams seem pretty short, I wonder why that is. This game will come down to who runs hardest the longest, more so than any normal game.

My understanding of bulging discs is that the only remedy is surgery and that rest won't help. It's also not painful in isolation as there are no nerves in the discs, it only becomes an issue late in the condition if/when the vertebrae either side of the disc pinch the nerves in the spine. It's a condition that takes years and years to develop but only becomes painful when it comes to a head, but when it does it goes from painless to crippling.

I could be talking total bollocks, though, it's just what I remember from a session I did on it once at work. @Webber?

Is a bulging disc and a slipped disc the same? Because I had a slipped disc last year and it was one of the worst injuries I have ever experienced. It was so debilitating, I couldn't even lie down without pain.

I have no idea how he is even playing with that type of back injury.

So officially 4 changes again this week. We have made a lot of changes each week over the past month. This is now a very unsettled team that is lacking in class. Hopefully we come out breathing fire and dominate the contested ball otherwise it might get ugly.

He wouldn't be playing with that injury. That report must be incorrect. If he had either a bulging or slipped disk then he wouldn't be standing and able to move properly. I know Watts is possibly the most mentally resilient player at the club, but no one can physically play with an injury like that.

Agreed. Back injuries are awful! Not even Viney could play through that.

Bye bye finals!  No Jack Watts to lift and turn on his best. No one now to produce the necessary goals and goal assists that we need. Bad call Goody, you have just committed football suicide.

If we were relying on Watts to 'switch on' and get us the win we were screwed.

He deserved to be dropped.

Where was he over the last fortnight?  I'm a Watts fan, but you could hardly make a case that meant he stayed in the side.  If you aren't playing up to scratch then you get dropped.  Simple.

Harsh dropping Maynard, I thought he was pretty good.

Wagner is an ordinary replacement for Salem/Frost to be honest.

I agree re: Maynard, but it may be part of a correction from last weekend when we probably went in with one too many inside mids.  Adding Brayshaw, who is another who can play that role, means he has to miss out.

With 8 of our top 10 goal kickers for the year playing I think we will be just fine as long as we play well around stoppages and then deliver it well into our forwards.

Team balance,  too many inside mids.

He will get his chance again.

Maybe Maynard is a bit sore, otherwise a terrible decision he deserved another crack at it, so we have gone from $1.65 into $1.57 WTF is up with the betting saints at $2.45 is extraordinary value, this game is 50/50 at best if saints break even in the middle there forwards will get the job done

Choked on reading this!!!!

If that is true they have no understanding of what finals means to supporters after so long in the wilderness and ridicule.  We have a chance this year.  Lets take it!

And the impact on the rest of the club:  memberships, sponsors, prime TV slots, fixture benefits, merchandising etc etc. ?

The goal of the club is a premiership by 2020 or earlier and to build a long term successful club. If we make finals this year, bonus.

Maybe it's some fans who don't understand what the club is trying to achieve..

As short as $1.55 on Tab, surely the punters aren't deterred by the Saints first 2017 appearance at the MCG. It seems we are the only ones backed at the moment.

Yeah makes sense.

In other news Casey should kill it tomorrow, Watts and Fritsch leading up forward, with King and Spencer to chop out, and Frosty, Dec and Hutchins commanding down back, and at home.

Look for a big win.

The 3 Pie supporters behind me who said the same and worse on QB say hello Petracc!  He may have deserved it but at his best he is also a potential match winner.

Corey Maynard is stiff to miss out for Wagner

Wagner and Weids (at this point in his career) in the same team doesn't instill me with much confidence for a win this week.

Maynard deserved a place ahead of Tyson whose 'VFL standard' decision making, speed and ball skills cost us dearly in that first half last week.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
