So amidst all the other hullabaloo, I missed this somewhat odd initial sticking-point in the recent collective bargaining agreement; public GPS player metrics.

Unfortunately only the top-five in each category per game will be published, and unfortunately only for Telstra customers. Anyone have the app?

Some interesting reading.

Unbelievable that my choice of phone carrier effects the amount of stats that I can get on a game.

I moved all my phone accounts OFF Telstra a few years back because of high pricing and poor support. This sort of [censored] doesn't make me want to move back.

I'm surprised you find this unbelievable, given the choice of TV service you have affects the number of games you can watch. Telstra pays the AFL what I assume is a substantial sum of money either as pure sponsorship or for access rights (or both) and gets something like this in return. Telstra then uses the exclusivity to help encourage (or in your case discourage, apparently) subscribers to their service. Just like Foxtel does with TV coverage.

"Choice" is an interesting term.

I can only "chose" to watch all AFL games on my TV if I "chose" to pay Foxtel a stupid amount of money for shows I'll never watch. Or I can "chose" to pay a smaller fee to Telstra for that content, but it can only be shown on a maximum screen size of 7 inches.

I cannot "chose" a legitimate alternate source for these stats if I want to see them. They have been purchased by one company, who have locked them up behind a paywall I can only access if I have "chosen" their other products. Fortunately, as Rafiki has pointed out, it's pretty simple for someone to just screenshot and upload the stats. I have no doubt every game day thread on this site, as well as bigfooty and others, will have these stats posted. I will therefore "chose" to access these stats the only way I can as a non-Telstra subscriber.

Yo ho ho.

Here's the stats from the Adelaide game

Interesting stuff.  Seeing who is doing repeat sprints, who is fastest (Hunt) and defensive and offensive speeds.  JKH showing lots of 'effort' - some here not sure of the impact, though....

Thanks for posting.

Thanks for posting.

Surprised to see Mitch McGovern with the second highest top speed. I assume he wore his guernsey and GPS unit back to the Hotel in the bus.

Edit: Thanks for posting @Rafiki

The Federal Government must have a pretty decent Foxtel package, (although they can't check the fine print because there doesn't seem to be any print at all. Just handed Rupert 30mil. You'd be expecting some good statistics with that outlay.

Australian print-media circulation statistics (weekly):

The Herald Sun 850,000

The Daily Telegraph 639,000

The Australian 336,000

Etc. https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2017/jul/19/government-declines-to-explain-foxtels-30m-handout-for-sports-broadcasting

Straight-up outrageous.

BBO has had an ankle bracelet for years and I have a few friends in the Police force.

Often I track him on my computer when he claims to be " at the gym" when in reality he is dressed in drag sniffing bike seats at Fernwood.

Well Biffen thank you (not) for divulging hitherto confidential information.

However, you are sadly errant re Fernwood. I was banned from that tawdry organisation some years ago over a misunderstanding that had little to do with bicycle seats.

I also pee in the shower at the gym, it's good for athletes foot. If they don't want people to see it, put doors on the showers.

Careful Ethan, they'll test your pee for PEDs

Why would Ethan have Pedersen's pee?

The BBC online today has this interesting "tracking" story about how the data is used to enhance supporter experience in NRL. It also talks about its use at the Tour de France.

Certainly adds to the experience as a remote spectator of the TdF. Obviously a different sport from footy, wonder of it will be just as useful

    TRAINING: Wednesday 12th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the scorching morning heat to bring you the following observations of Wednesday's preseason training session from Gosch's Paddock. HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
