No they had the vision of Hunt kicking him and the presenter said Oliver.

Thats pathetic.

Mind boggling stuff. Which presenter was it?

I read the HUN today and thought Carlton had won. The whole article was about Curnow and little else. The media freaking love the Blues and I can't work out why. They are the kings of getting heaps of the footy and doing Jack with it, not to mention their game style being horrible to watch.

We played the same sort of footy under Roos year one and two and copped it off the media in year two.

Can't remember the name but it was a female.

She would have been reading off the cue cards which would have been prepared by someone who obviously has no idea what Oliver looks like.

Whilst we are on presenters and commentators, how about Leigh Matthews cutting of Jason Bennetts praise of ANB passing to Lewis by saying " He doesn't know how long there is to go of course, we know there is 19 seconds to go, the same as the shot clock, Jordan Lewis would only know the time clock."

How naive to think players don't know the time left when the ball is actually dead nearing the end of a game.

I though the same thing. Then i heard confirmation on the deetales podcast today that apparently Crossy told lewis there was only a minute to go. Very smart play by Lewis. Very dumb by blues not to man up

Gee wiz the umps let us get monstered during this game.

How bad was the Weitering free on Plugger Sticks McDonald?

Plugger Sticks McDonald kicking for goal is sublime!

Hoges just after halftime up the ground looked good. Kent just before the half gave a bit and won't be dropped.

If we can get a few back in next 2-3 weeks, we will do some damage.

In the poor Crips (Struts) broken leg tears, what was the outcome for White for Ctankers? His looked just as bad as Struts.

One fact that is indisputable, this year we have beaten Carlton twice, three if you count the JLT, the Sainters once and Essendon once, all sides we've struggled to beat over the last few years.

Sometimes it's not the size of the win that's the issue, it's the symbolism and the fact that we are in the ascendency, they've had the wood on us, now they haven't.

Watched second half again... haha even better. Suck a bag of... Blues and your entitled chitty fans.

This. Lewis said in his presser that Crossy told them there was a minute left. I wonder if Leigh is aware of what those people running around in hi vis, who seem to talk to the players are there for.

The one that I am surprised has never been tried is when a player is kicking for goal from around 50m - defenders could allow themselves to be used as a stepladder so that a teamate can get a touch on the ball

I think that one's actually against the rules

There are two things that we really need to address that are holding this team back:

  1. Our decision making from marks is still so bad, our play on at all costs strategy comes undone too often. The perfect example yesterday was Hibberd played on without looking and Silvangi was standing two metres away from him (it probably should have been a 50 metre penalty but that's beside the point).  As a result, Hibberb went from having a "free kick" with no pressure to kicking under pressure unnecessarily. The other problem (as I have mentioned many times) is we don't get back behind the mark quickly enough.  Melksham had the ball just outside our attacking 50 metre line but didn't bother to get back behind the mark quickly. As a result, he kicked the ball into the man on the mark and a guaranteed forward entry became an attacking play for Carlton.
  2. Our tackling has regressed badly. The problem for me is we over commit to the tackle allowing teams to just slightly step to the side and get around us with ease. Sometimes the best thing to do is just hold off for half a second, wait for the player with the ball to move then go in for the tackle. On the other side, Hannan and Jetta are the two players who are excellent avoiding tackles because they are so good at the little shimmy and shake in close. Straight line players such as Hunt and Frost rely on their pace (which is great) but they are very predictable in their movements meaning that they too often get caught unnecessarily.

We're going to turn it over from playing on too quickly because our aim is to play on as often as possible. It's always going to lead to the occasional error in judgment but by and large we look much better when we move the ball quickly and take the game on rather than sit behind the mark and let opposition sides flood back (especially teams like Carlton who are pretty good at it, too).

Agree that we don't get behind the mark quickly enough but that problem is getting better as the year goes on and it's nowhere near as bad as previous years.

As to the tackling I'm not convinced there is a long term issue there. We didn't have a great tackling day yesterday but it's not something that has been an ongoing issue and given we've consistently been ranked highly for "pressure acts" which measure tackles and our ability to pressure opponents without tackling, I'm not as concerned about that as I am about some other things (primarily the continued problem of too many players going up in defensive marking contests and too many turnovers by foot).

Really? I am  surprised by that but then it seems so obvious there must be some logic as to why it hasn't been done.

Lloyd, Hutchy and Cornes were surprisingly complimentary about our win, right until they threw us under the bus for "getting ahead of ourselves," complete with laughable 'rap sheet' detailing our indiscretions this year.

They even included Hogan caught smoking at a music festival on the graphic. You'd think these soulless wankers might have an ounce of humanity for a kid with a gravely ill father, but clearly that's giving modern Australian journalism too much credit.

I saw this, what a rap sheet lol. Twitterers and smokers, what a bunch of savages!

I bet some of them vape and have home loans they can't afford too, absolute cowboys.

Lock your doors!

Oh yeah, forgot about that. Oliver getting into a "Twitter spat" with some [censored] cricketer is an indictable offence nowadays.

What is the world coming to!?

Some "interesting" coaches votes. Looks like someone gave Murphy 5 votes, Curnow 3 votes, Kreuzer 1 vote and McDonald no votes. He almost certainly got 5 from Goodwin, unless I was watching a different game.

CARLTON v MELBOURNE
9 Marc Murphy (Carl)
5 Charlie Curnow (Carl)
5 Tom McDonald (Melb)
5 Christian Petracca (Melb)
4 Clayton Oliver (Melb)

1 Neville Jetta (Melb)

Bolton . Goodwin

McDonald 5. murphy 5

Murphy 4.  Oliver 4

Curnow 3. trac 3

Trac 2. curnow  2

Kruze 1. Jetta 1

Not sure if I follow a footy club or the Hells Angels anymore.

Not even crowd patrons are safe from our unruly players, now having their lives threatened while peacefully sitting in the stands!

Won't somebody think of the children!?

After Cripps had been off for about 15 minutes Leigh Matthews said something along the lines of:

Cripps is off injured and Carlton are still winning the centre clearances 70% to 30% there is no logical explanation.

How about Jones, Viney and Tyson all missing?

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
