I can also confirm that within an hour of him passing the medical, a courier arrived at the club delivering two sets of steak knives.

It's game on!!!

I dont know... there's just something about Balic.

Kicking obviously needs work but the balance is there.

Interested.

I am mildly concerned for players with ability but without the spine to make it interstate. I fancy the 'anywhere, anytime, anyhow' attitude. Obviously everyone's different, but it doesn't instill me with confidence.

Handle with care

Dare I say the new Watts?

Couldn't have 2 in the team?

Plapp must know him pretty well having coached him at Dragons.

Hopefully he will be more settled back in Melbourne with his family. Not all 18 year olds are mature enough to move to the other side of the country away from family and friends.

Welcome back to the MFC Harley - 2 down a few more to get

This one for you McQueen ... few more to still get.

Patting oneself on the back is beyond cringe worthy, regardless of the fluke.

let's bump this thread in say another year.......... I have no idea and I expect neither does most of the football world.

Worth a chance... I hope so...

will his nickname be the Hog?

Good Luck Harley !!

We will see the real Harley Balic stand up at our club.  Never wanted to go west.  Tried to give it his best shot but underlying family issues at home meant his head was never in a good space.  Great get if it comes off.  Class above ANB and Harmes.

First I've seen of him. Nice mover with good awareness and composure. Pass and present - think it might work with our game-style. Especially perhaps if he can find some sync with Oliver on the outside - he doesn't strike as super-fast but has a couple steps of acceleration and can find the space. But what position would we have him slated for? Super-pleased if he comes for a sub-50 pick.

And what's with all the basketballers?

On the Dockers forum, a poster said he will turn into the next Scott Pendlebury now hes gone home to Vic.

Wouldnt that be nice.

Most of those Docker forum people would be prescient ( that is, the ones who are not total nut jobs )

If predictions like that came true, the league would consist entirely of Scott Pendleburys.

Pretty underwhelmed by this acquisition, not sure what he’ll provide us other than cover through the midfield.

His strong attributes are neither his speed or kicking skills which is something we’re still short on so it’ll be interesting to hear why we targeted him. Hopefully we do hear why.

Balic can play. He will be a starter.

You think? He looks like a classic depth pick up to me

I wonder if he’ll be part of the mooted Hogan to Freo (2017 trade period edition) deal...

Zero chance

Balic is worth a 3rd or late 4th rounder

Hogan is worth pick 3 and Neale

Watts is quick and the best kick in our side, Balic is neither and likely to be a fringe player..

Haha I'm not sure if you're arguing for me or against me....... That is a joke but in all seriousness if you believe Watts was anything more then a 3rd tall your who struggled to win his own ball you're kidding yourself

I have no argument that he is a good ball user and is quick. But they are pointless attributes if you can't get the ball in the first place.

Ballic like Watts are hopefully cream in a good team - hence my refrence

But I am messing around a bit, Wattsy is much loved, Ballic most likely won't achieve much.

He's coming, am hearing a third round pick will seal the deal.

As a junior looked the part. Was touted as top 10 pick before injured. Just never settled in freo. Wearing purple would be quite soul destroying .

Could be that outside run player. Has good size and with a solid preseason could be a star. If we get with pick 45, a bargain.

The irony of the plethora of comparisons to Pendlebury?

I can't think of one player drafted since, that actually effing plays like him...

Bont is the only similar comparison IMO, the rest, well.....

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

It's Game Day and the Demons have a chance to notch up their third consecutive win — something they haven’t done since Round 5, 2024. But to do it, they’ll need to exorcise the Demons of last year’s disastrous trip out West. Can the Dees continue their momentum, right the wrongs of that fateful clash, and take another step up the ladder on the road to redemption?
