Considering we had a very short turnaround and he also copped a knock against the Tiges, Jack played his best game for the year yesterday.

Surprisingly, he looked to have found a bit of pace which he had lost for the past month. Was instrumental in the 3rd quarter, a good game by the skipper.

Would be massive for us if he can find his 2016 form!

After a poor start to the year he played his best game of 2017 yesterday. His intensity was better, his pace appeared to have returned through the middle of the match as well. Importantly when the game was in the balance he stood up as a leader, won some hard ball to setup a goal, followed by a few clearances after that. If he can do that consistently again like last year, it'll be a big bonus for us. We need him playing with intensity and standing up when games are there to be won. 

He thankfully seemed to have his burst speed back, which makes you wonder if he was carrying an injury the first 5 rounds.

Still down a fair way in TOG -  and that's not counting his recent stints in the forward-line. He showed a bit at the start of last week as well but can't sustain it. I remain convinced he's carrying something or still recovering. And that he has been hampered far more than what's been let on.

Agree Skuit. If it was a form thing, he would still be crashing into packs regardless.

It's not that he's hesitant, more not capable at the moment. It is clearly a management thing, otherwise he'd be put on ice for a week or two.

Not the actual catalyst for mine, but he certainly upped our effect.

Well I guess that's true to a degree but I hope this analysis isn't based on him running off Jab Watson, which ,frankly , I could have done too last Sunday.

Rewatching the broadcast... Just before the bounce to start the second half I saw him doing a sort of hulahoop action loosening up the hip area. Hadn't seen it before, so I was very interested to see how he played the game out. The way he moved and the power he pushed through the area with... is it possible he played the first 5 games underdone, but structurally sound... And just hadn't gained confidence in the area post surgery? We know he'd play even with an arm and a leg lopped off. I'm hoping that was the case, and provides some explanation for his not having taken a game by the scruff of the neck. If you factor in him, and Oliver's startling rise... Then we really will be every chance of winning any game against teams not named Crows, dogs or Giants. 

I think it helped that Essendon's midfield were way down on intensity but I was really impressed with his decision making. He wasn't rushing and was kicking to safer and wider options.

Too much has been made about an apparent lack of pace or impact at the contest. I think he's doing his job there, even if not as prolific. Just the bad decisions and skill errors have hurt his game and with that area vastly improved his overall performance seemed much more impressive.

My biggest knock on Jack in the first 5 games of 2017 has been his lack of explosiveness and this has impacted on his decision-making, because he's tried to play hero footy to get himself out of situations that his explosiveness would normally enable him to. If he's got it back, we're in for some exciting times with he, Oliver, Petracca and Tyson hitting some form together this year.

I'm not a big Viney fan but he was very good after half time.

The thing that troubles me most about these posts is that they read like the Twitter ravings of President Trump. Same structure. Same use of punctuation for emphasis. Not a fan, what does a bloke have to do? I know he has a slow start to the season but he has given everything over the last few years 

I think while Jack is down on form (with a decent return on Sunday), it is reassuring to see he is giving voice leadership and niggling the opposition.

Did anyone see him giving it to Goddard in the 3rd when he let the ball go out and didn't bother to compete?

Even took his mouthguard out to ensure Goddard heard every word of it.

Sunday was far and away Jack's best game for the year. His form hasn't been good prior to that, being caught trying to bust through packs, and some pretty average kicking. Sunday was a welcome return to form, but we start again this weekend.

Goddard didn't want to take possession of that ball for three reasons. Firstly he wanted a cheap DOOB free kick. Secondly, Viney was right on his ginger. Thirdly he didn't fancy being clobbered by Viney. ( as you wouldn't)

It made a huge difference. Hope it continues. Will need his best this weekend.

Not bombing it into the clouds - maybe because the roof was on, and he couldn't see them.

I will make Melbourne strong again, real strong...and big, and strong.  And build a wall, a big big wall, big and strong, around the MCG....and make Eddie pay for it.

I saw that and thought what an absolute softy.  Pathetic.  And one very good reason not to even consider a last touch rule.

Live i thought how soft it was and would have been furious if it was paid deliberate. I saw viney lettint goddard know about but not properly until i watched the replay. Loved it. Goddard shits me, always has. He looks slow these days. Good on jack

This is what I find confusing about the rule, if the rule is about intent then you couldn't argue goddards intent was to keep the ball in, he had plenty of time to get the ball and kick it and didn't want to get the hit from Viney
