We might have a winner here.

Pick 10  + 2018 1st rounder

for

Jake Lever and Jordan Gallucci

Gallucci would be a nice addition, he has something we need in the midfield - lightning speed and a willingness to take the game on.

i think we will need to use a first round pick in the next two years based on the rules. So I wouldn't rule out trying to get pick 17 or whatever they have back from them.

Those rules only start in 2019

We've demonstrated that we're a fair club when it comes to trading. We have some chips in our favour if we're the chosen destination, but there are of course some other factors in play. I think somewhere between a first and a third (or a commensurate player) is fair for Jake - muddied slightly by the suggestion of a disparity in 2017/18 draft quality and current/projected placings - but that's exactly what I expect the end result will be.

I think a 1st and 2nd (2017) is about right, and that the Crows should be pretty happy with that. If it falls somewhere close to that either side I'll be happy also.

2017 first 2018 first and upgrade there second and third round picks for lever and there 2017 first which will be 17/18

If the crows would prefer the 2018 draft I'd be happy to give them our 2018 first round pick and this years second rounder and keep pick 10

So he's still not here yet !!  Bloody hell ... what's going on

They possibly would, but not certainly, as they don't have any other good tall forwards that I know of.

The point I'm making is your overvaluing Gibbs.

And comparing Lever to Rance, who is a number of years into an elite footy career. So Rance is an established elite player.

Lever is just a spring chicken in terms of playing that top level, on a consistent year on year basis.

Its not about so much about Gibbs perceived trade value, as we don't want to trade with Carlton if don't have to.

But my reasoning is more about this willingness to give away more than we should have to to bring a player into the club.

Sometimes I think we can talk ourselves into bidding, against our own bids.

We have to learn to play hard ball, if we are to learn to fight it out against the tougher clubs.

They are no push over because they value they're own club interests, ahead of other clubs.

We have to play with the same set of rules.

I feel like Alice in Wonderland.  Try to follow the thread.  I didn't compare Lever with Rance, I compared him with Hogan.

The point is that Lever is a young star of the competition like Hogan, Petracca, Oliver.  Lever is CHB in Best 22 Under 22 two years in a row - Hogan, Petracca and Oliver have also made that team once.

When you are thinking about the trade value for Lever you need to think in terms of what you would want for Hogan, Petracca or Oliver in similar circumstances.  Pick 10 and change is not going to cut it.

The majority of trades get done with picks instead of players, but I can understand why the Crows would throw out the hail-mary trade of Tracc or Oliver. If you look at who's been traded over the last few years in a similar situation, Treloar, TMitchell, O'Meara, Danger and Beams, they've all nearly been done with 1 first rounder and something else (2nd) or 2 firsts but with a something else coming back as well as the player (either pick or decentish player).

Most of the suggestions have been pick 10 plus a second this year or next, or next years first plus this years 2nd, or even 2 firsts plus we get Lever and a 2nd or fringe player, I think that'll be the way it plays out. Good on Adelaide for trying to get more, but if they really valued Lever then offer him a decent deal to begin with and he might not have wanted to walk away.

If the crows have mentioned petracca who they couldn't get a trade done for without lever, it's a pretty sure sign that he's on his way to the demons.

I keep thinking of it like, if this were Jesse hogan what would we be asking for? I'm not sure lever is quite as valuable as hogan but he's in that same catagory.

Pick 10 definitely and the question is how much more. I think a fringe player or a second round pick feels fair to me.

I think Hogan would be worth two early 1st Rnd picks, as he has shown just the other year, how dominant he can be, as he grows his body & confidence.

He has the ability to dominate defenders like Rance & Lever or any you want to throw up as opponents.

He has just had the season of hellish proportions, & next year if he stays will be his best in a Melbourne side cherry ripe to go into finals action.

I rate Hogan as extremely valuable & will be the equivalence of Danger, Hodge, or any  of the AFL's superstars in recent time.

Its still early days on Lever & he's a defender.  Now if he turns into a swingman, then that's different, if he can become Harry Taylor type.

early days.

I'm guessing picks 10 and 27 will get us Lever.

I’ll admit I haven’t seen a lot of Lever but what I have reminds me of a slightly upgraded version Jared Rivers at the same age and number of games. I liked Rivers a lot but anything more than our first round pick is too much. To me uttering Lever’s name in the same breath as Rance is silly.

Let me tell you what my Crow friends think of Lever.

A slow unaccountable 3rd tall intercept defender who is crap one on one but the same people would like Oliver, Trac, Brayshaw or Hunt in return.

They say that because he's leaving.....as we would if we were losing a star also.

As we did when a bunch of posters got it into their heads that Hogan was off to the west.

Oliver would be worth a 1st & 2nd Rnd pick now.

Petracca so far with one knee already Op'd on, would be currently worth what we gave up for him.

Hogan is worth more than what we gave up for him, as he has already demonstrated his fitness from the back, & has kicked bags of goals, and is still very young.  His pedigree is a proven commodity, over a few seasons now.

Lever might get to that, but he is a floating tall defender.

He is not worth 2 x 1st Rnd picks, at this point with his career.

I wouldn't trade him for 9 first round picks.

I wouldn't trade any of our young guns for anything. keep them all together. They are the nucleus of our new club. Brothers in arms.

The older less committed brigade, need be shown the back door. asap.

Sounds like some of the EFC supporters on Hibberd last trade period, nothing good to say about him.

...and how did he turn out???

Only 9???

Without blinking.

Serious questsion.  How many first round picks do you think are fair for Danger or Martin (or an in form Fyfe)?

How many second year players have you seen have more impact than Oliver?

If we got three first rounders for Oliver what are the chances of getting a player anything like him?

I think the reality is you can't put a price on Oliver because he is such a rare talent.

I think most clubs in the league would give up 2 top 5 selections for Oliver.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
