And with these two posts, the Draft and Trading board is back in business!

Let the good times roll.

Watts has far more upside from staying with us then his current trade value.

If he stopped selling board shorts, and started selling a bit more candy he might have another 2016 like season next year !!!

If Waldron was in charge of our club, we wouldn't need to free up room. He'd just cook the books.

He was also adamant Lever would be a Pie.

For that there would be 'verbals' , details to be sorted.

The 3rd, should it eventuate sounds dependent upon other's deals.

Must admit , i like Circuses :)

Who are they..?

If we can talk so openly about Lever, why not them..?

Only have info on Lever and Gaff who both should be coming. There is a 3rd player of strong interest but I honestly don't know who it is. I know Demons have been talking to Geelong, not sure if Demons player going or Cats player coming

I imagine that will be the most likely trade and whilst it does seem like a lot, I think we'd be asking for the same if the situation were reversed.

I also think it's necessary. Supporters get too carried away with draft picks and Lever is proven quality at the age of 21. He's also the same age as our core and if we land him it'll be enormous for our club and that group moving forward.

We picked Scully and Trengove at picks 1 and 2 once upon a time. Brayshaw is an unknown at this point as a pick 3. You take quality vs potential where you can.

Two second round picks this year could also land us some fantastic quality if we get it right. There are more Sloanes and Fyfes out there ya'll.

Edit: For @Redleg

Agreed. If we drafted a player who is as good as Lever is with Pick 10 this year or next years first rounder then we would be over the moon. Its more than likely that one pick would be a bust. Lever is worth 2 first rounders with a second rounder back to us, or our first and second round pick with nothing in return.

I have already posted earlier in this thread the history of pick 10. To be safe, lets imagine that we finish 7th next year (I'm predicting higher) and get pick 12 as a result.

Below is a list of players drafted at pick 10 one year, pick 12 the next. As you will notice, its highly unlikely you will get a good player with both. Think I have cherry picked? Try it with pick 13, 14 or 15, the results are nearly the same.

Jordan McMahon (WB), Brent Reilly (Ade)

Sam Power (WB), Jay Schulz (Rich)

Jason Laycock (Ess), Ryan Murphy (Fre)

Ryley Dunn (Fre), Danny Meyer (Rich)

Chris Egan (Col), Nathan Jones (Mel)

Marcus Drum (Fre), James Frawley (Mel)

Nathan Brown (Col), Cyril Rioli (Haw)

Patrick Dangerfield (Ade), Lewis Johnston (Syd)

Phil Davis (Ade), Kane Lucas (Car)

Jake Melksham (Ess), Lucas Cook (Mel)

Daniel Gorringe (GC), Sam Docherty (Bris)

Toby Greene (GWS), Kristian Jaksch (GWS)

Joe Daniher (Ess F/S), Ben Lennon (Rich)

Nathan Freeman (Col), Corey Ellis (Rich)

Nakia Cockatoo (Gee), Charlie Curnow (Car)

Harry McKay (Car), Jy Simpkin (NM)

Jack Bowes (GC), Thomas Gorter (WC)

Something has gone terribly wrong with our salary cap management if we need to give up our only silky players to fit in Lever, given we have a $2m windfall (and having Lumumba off our books).

Grain of salt needed - make that a kilo!

Might be trying to off load only one of them and it could possibly be for the pick they're looking for, not the money.

Would be strange to trade Salem after just re-signing him...

(I thought you couldn't trade a player in their first year of contract... or did i imagine that..??)

I think that's for new draftees

How dare the Media try and control Demonland with our "honest" whispers and "heart warming" enthusiasm.

those worried about the dollar$$$$

This puts it in perspective

Chris Dawes (2013) - Signed on for $600K per year - was Hopeless

Jake Melksham (2016) - Signed on for $600K per year - Serviceable especially late 2017

Michael Hibberd (2017) - Signed on for $650K per year - Gun

Mitch Clarke (2012) - Signed on for $800K per year - Couldnt get on the park

Jake Lever (2018) - Potentially signing for $850K per year - AA with a lot of upside

Bring Lever on $900K everyday of the week for me please!!!!!!

He's on his way and the dollars are totally in line with what he deserves Picks 10 and 27 are off to Adelaide

If Melbourne is interested in a player from Geelong, my inkling tells me Mark Blicavs.

Blicavs can play midfield/ruck. 198cm and 100kg. Very good runner and tackles. Big body and difficult match up at centre bounces/clearances.

V.Good player and is exactly the type of player we need...

With Stringer and Ablett wanting to go to Geelong I am confident this could be on the cards. Geelong need to land draft picks to make this happen.

3-way trade.

Blicavs and Pick 33 to the Dees, Watts and Pick 20 to the Dogs, Stringer and Pick 27 to the Cats.

I can see the Dees landing Lever, Blicavs and Gaff. That would be the best trade week ever...

Not if we give up jack watts who I think is a more valuable player to us than gaff or Blicavs. But yes otherwise I take your point

I am hearing you. Hard to trade a player out especially Watts. I am being a realist.

Watts wasnt picked for season opener and dropped later in the season. I thought he was a bit lucky to get back in the side when he did.

If I had choice from Gaff, Watts and Blicavs.

I would take Blicavs hands down.

Motlop will end up at North. Maybe Port.

Melbourne surely wouldnt be stupid enough.

Was this the guy who said a few weeks back that Hogan was home sick and was thinking of going home and that Freo are very interested in him? If it is him then i would not even bother with the dribble that comes out of this guy.

This is the same Brian Waldron who said Lever was going to the Pies.

PS. Sorry Demon 77, didn't see that you had posted this already.

That is insane. Anyone with even half a brain would take Blicavs last of those three.

  • PREVIEW: Hawthorn

Hawthorn and Melbourne. Two teams with impressive form from last week but with seasons that are travelling on different trajectories meet in Saturday’s twilight game for what could well be the most intriguing contest of the AFL’s penultimate round. Sadly, the game has been relegated to that unappealing time slot in the weekend when Melburnians are typically preoccupied with activities other than football. It falls between the morning's shopping, afternoon sport and recreation, and Saturday night fever. A time usually reserved for relatively insignificant events but this one is not a nothingburger for either of the clubs or their fans.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
