I'm curious. For those with the patience to venture onto opposition fan-sites, which Demons players have sparked 30-page discussions on their potential poaching? Probably not 30 pages, but I'd be interested to hear in general who opposition fans think they can prise free, the currency suggested, and their perspective on these players as compared to our own.

No MFC player thread on the first 3 pages of BF Trade & Draft:

Rockliff also doesn't like the Dees apprently. We supposedly promised him a rookie spot and took Jurrah instead at the last minute....

I would've thought that he'd be past that by now surely

It seems Lever is very gettable!

Apparently, Crows have a very strict pay scale and structure.  eg reportedly offered McGovern $350,000 for 2 years (barely above the average).  Offers from Freo are reported to be around $600,000 for 5 years.

Unlike us where our policy is to pay around the market but not overs.

The Crows offer to Lever is reportedly also well below market increasing the likelihood of him returning to Victoria!

yeah.... actually happened 3 times....

passed on him as a player. Then as a young coach. Then as a cranky old git.... he didn't quite get the message (or is it us that made the same mistake... hard to call on that). So Sheeds probably does have his nose out of joint about us

Quite impressed with McGovern, I'd make anplaybfor him too.

This was my take a few weeks back after the last comments coming out of the Crows.

In a completely unfounded amateur pop-psych marketing-principle sort of way, I get this vague hunch that a serious Adelaide low-ball may be somehow extra beneficial for us. As in: if you're offered a choice of two monetary deals that are already significantly better than your current position, you may be less inclined to simply grab the higher figure and instead better consider other factors.

@Danelska? Any behavioural economists I can cite here? Kahnemann or someone?

@Skuit - what's Adelaide list management position? What is their prioritising from a financial perspective? Perhaps they're resigned to losing him due to his partner resigning and wanting to come back (could be rumour of course)  - perhaps it is a fait accompli that he returns - its no longer about oweing clubs respect due to development as a young player, these are purely pragmatic times.

Irrespective of financial offers, its about your values as an individual - closer to home (connections, family, community) vs the brotherhood of one club that nurtured you - even though this is fundamentally replaceable (see Dangerfield, Mayne, et al).

Either way there is benefit and cost - personally, I'd join the Dees rather than a small town hick team from Radelaide, from a 'values' based perspective,

I was coming at it from the presumption of Lever leaving Adelaide and choosing between us and a wealthier suitor.

That if for example, Lever was offered 650,000 by Adelaide and then 700,000 by us and 800,000 by Collingwood he would be more likely to take Collingwood than if he was offered 500,000 by Adelaide and then 700,000 by us and 800,000 by Collingwood. In the psychological sense that if Adelaide are seriously low-balling, then any much greater offer is already considered a significant 'win', which leads to greater consideration of other factors. I'll see if I can dig up a paper.

Plenty of papers on that - lets walk to the car yard and get the $25,000 VW golf , the $35,000 golf or the $45,000 - most people discount the $25k because they feel the won't get enough, or its not good enough - the difference between the $35k and the $45k is perceived value - do I get the same tangible benefits, or am I getting ripped off.

I'd go the $35k  - hence Jake will definitely be coming to Melbourne. You heard it hear first.

Do you have Intel or just a hunch?

Posted

Not that I have any idea of the money involved, but I would think it might need to be at least $200k more than Adelaide's offer for him to choose us.

Playing and winning a final might also help our cause with any player we are chasing

They just said on SEN that Jake Lever officially met with Melbourne FC last week and that he was apparently unhappy with the first offer Adelaide offered him.. doesn't guarantee he is leaving or anything but still very interesting

FWIW Sam McLure reporting on SEN that Lever himself has met with Melbourne officials and some Melbourne players. Also reports that he is happy to stay at Crows as he likes the life there, just unhappy with their offer

Sounds like he is using us as leverage (heh) to get a better deal out of the Crows.

I don't interpret it that way.

Meeting with an opposing club's officials and players as leverage to get a better deal with your current club seems a bit extreme. You can do that by simply holding off signing until you're satisfied with an offer from your current club.

Clearly he is considering a move if what's reported is true.

And if it happens, i'll be in heaven.

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator attended training out at Casey Fields to bring you the following observations from Preseason Training. GATOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS There were 5 in the main rehab group, namely Gawn, Petracca, Fullarton, Woewodin and Lever.  Laurie was running laps by himself, as was Jefferson.  Chandler, as has been reported, had his arm in a sling.  Lindsay did a bit of lap running later on. Some of the ''rehab 5'' participated in non contact drills and b

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan.
