Port have 25 players OOC at seasons end, and it sounds like they will have some trouble keeping all their top end talent.

Anyone there of interest to the Dees?

(sorry that question is probably a derail come to think of it)

Only issue I have with Lever is that sometimes he tries to mark when he should punch and the ball falls to his feet instead of being fisted clear towards the boundary line.

Minor quible only. Possibly an issue for all of the better intercept markers.

Good post. This is the stuff of demonland. A bit of "maybe this is what he's thinking."

For the record too, I reckon Watts would have gone through whole months like that.

I have no idea what he's thinking. I'll put it more simply... the kid couldn't buy a goal.

When he finally kicked one, he played a lot better....in my opinion.

Yeah I was with you. Not disagreeing.

Then we'd need a replacement for Weed. We're thin on for KP forwards. Hogan for future, Pedo for the next few years. I'd love a third to rotate in so we can free up Watts to roam far and wide. Hulett not looking to good at this stage. In reality we probably need 2 more while Weed develops. Reid is the obvious target there, and if the papers today are to be believed, McStay as well. He's a KP defender, but has played forward a lot. I think he was recruited as a forward possibly.

Pedo will be 31 by start of next year. I like the guy a lot and want him to hold his spot for a long as possible, but he will struggle to get a game beyond next year, possibly end of this year. Weed will need to have a big preseason and come on next year or we'll look elsewhere for another kpf. Having said that, Reid from Sydney might be in our sights soon.

He's not like most 31 yo's in the sense he has only played around 63 games...

If that's true - and I don't doubt you - it is an appalling piece of list management. I know there is a new CBA in the offing that may be holding some agreements back but seriously that is negligent of the club.

Sure, but he's not exactly what could be described as durable or super fit. Big men who are depth often burn out quickly. I hope not though. He's a favourite of many

Yeeeeeah I know... But still... Let me believe it. lol

I want to put together a paragraph about how players are playing longer into their careers now, that he started late, is super professional now blah blah blah. But you're right.

What can I say. I love the guy. He's gonna be missed when he hangs them up, I can tell you that.

Yeah its true... Heard it from a PAFC connection and confirmed by googling Port contract list. They are in a lot of trouble with so many to negotiate, and a new wages bargain thingy that everyone will want a chunk of.

Maybe we can shake the tree and see what comes loose?

When DD? I have seen nothing yet to suggest he is more than an ok VFL player.

It astounds me that you would want to trade Weideman at this stage of his development. The guy is 19, has shown some great glimpses and is currently building strength and a tank. He's not a mid-fielder FFS, give the bloke a chance to develop properly.

Proper development is not feeding him to the wolves?

Maybe we could offer Adelaide Salem and our 2nd round pick.

I know you gotta give something to get something but no way are we getting rid of Salem. He's one of the few kids we have with a lethal boot

Put themselves under cap pressure after signing Ryder & Dixon. Think they locked away Wines last year, so no room for them to move prior to new CBA coming into effect.

Hartlett was initially available last year and clubs are reportedly throwing cash at Pittard now.

I'd like us to look at youngsters Aidyn Johnson and Todd Marshall.

Johnson has great pace with some good tricks and would be cheap if he wanted to come back to Vic. Marshall was a reasonably high pick from Murray Bushrangers and is tall enough to play ruck/forward, but will have limited chances whilst Dixon and Westhoff are running around in the fwd line.

Trengove may be a decent plan B to Lever pursuit.

Well we better make their job alot easier and take Ollie Wines off them.

I love that theory!  Given I have played 0 games, I'm takin' 10 years off!!

Just wondering - and ignoring any trade scenarios for a second, how much was H on, and would that (possibly x CBA increase %) be enough to secure a young up and comer like Lever?

I'd have thought he was on decent coin (???) so trying to get a gauge on what that might be worth in terms of players. If there's a decent enough free agent it's almost like a free hit, but if we can turn that into a May or Lever it's a bit of a no brainer.

He'd be a great get, but not worth a couple of first rounders ('17 & '18) as some have suggested. I wouldn't be giving up Brayshaw either, I think that could do more damage than expected with his relationship with the other younger guys.

More than that, we tend to forget Brayshaw was a top 3 draft pick just behind Petracca. He is potentially that good. For all those on here who say we need another elite mid - well you are looking at him and he is wearing a number 10 Dees jumper. Top three draft picks don't grow on trees, and you can recover from concussion. Just ask Joel Selwood.

He can play another 3 years Pedo no doubt.

On exposed form, playing on the third best forward most week's, Lever looks a jet. However can someone explain what our back 6 looks like next year with Lever? Also what they would be willing to trade. Then explain how that gets us closer to a flag. Find me a forward/ruck and quality ball carrying mids before we start throwing what we would have to to get a player that is a nice to have not must have.

I'll put up one of those posts: lever won't leave. He's from all reports a true class act, loved at the club, future captain, etc.

he was a freakish talent before the leg injury in juniors. Adelaide know he was a draft steal and won't give him up for less than the moon, Jupiter and a second round pick.

Please, to all who put forth our own overrating trades of players who are borderline 22 at the dees, stop. It's equivalent to Richmond offering us Shane Edwards and a second rounder for clarry, because we don't know how good he is.

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
