Oh no doubt. It's an important step. It now needs to be followed up (me being Captain Obvious).

I think one of the more impressive things was that there is no overreaction from the players.

If that win happened three years ago, the players would be jumping around like a pack of googy eggs. As though they had won Tattslotto on their wedding day.

While they were clearly happy, there were handshakes, balls kicked into the crowd and off to sing the song.

I also think that we didn't feel like we 'fluked' it is a big step to overcome. We were the better team. Our players are now top 8 calibre and we deserved the result.

I noticed this. Media will blow the lid off but the players won't.

Speaking of which, was weird watching the game with Roos' commentary. Very happy with what he achieved at the club but Team Goodwin did something in one game that he and about 5 other coaches couldn't do in a decade (beat the Saints).

With the team Roos built. Interesting though the commentators brought up that last gasp loss which Roosy was coaching, clearly still stings!

I may have underrated our side. The degree of control we showed today was amazing. Absolutely thrilled.

Cant argue with that Ralph. I said before this match i havent seen an MFC side control a match with deliberate hit up short passing for an entire season in my whole time watching. Only one match but an excellent start. Need to follow up next week though.

Brilliant effort, with the superior midfield , just drooling over Oliver he has arrived as our best mid.

Loved Hannans intensity and what a superb pick up and goal.

We will also get a lot better with Tyson and Kent as well as Hibberd and Frost making our defense stronger .

Lots of guys played well today and played an Etihad style of game today. Therefore Goodwin was as influencial as a 23 man.

But what gets lost in every game and for the last too many years is the the progression and now influence of our Caprian Jones. He is now a complete player. Great decision maker, great skills, gets the ball consistently week in week out.

He is an AA grade player. The work he had done on his game is MASSIVE. In now good times and in extremely bad times he continues to perform and is so much better now he has good support around him.

when others have floundered he has excelled due to dedication.

He deserves to lift the cup for what he does now and for what did in an environment that killed more talented individuals

C Oliver. He is a freak. As soon as he lifted in the second, the entire midfield lifted. Eventually, St Kilda, who had tagged Viney for the first half, were faced by a rampant Jones, Oliver and Lewis. This eventually freed Viney up and he worked himself into the second half pleasingly.

Jones played a real captain's game. One of his best games for the club IMO. Gut running both ways. He was everywhere. Made some errors, but more than made up for them with his impact on the game.

Here's my big call though. As I mentioned in a post the other day, Watts' ruck work in the second quarter turned the game. Max then had the momentum and changed his tapework to keep his taps within a 5 metre radius. This worked a trick. St Kilda players couldn't get separation and then we outnumbered them at the stoppages.

Hannan was really impressive in his first game. Kudos to the MC. What a selection. Everyone played their role and how good was Nev Jetta?

Hope Smith is okay.

An unexpected win, but extremely satisfying. Go you mighty red legs!!

I hope others got on demons to win by a margin. I was stuck in pub at Wonthaggi (there's no really good ones)and had the barflys in our corner. So sweet to see that song. I believe we will be good value for weeks to come till others wake up.

Missed the game thread but...

- There was no way the Saints could keep up that intensity after the 1st, they were ridiculous.

- Jetta, Vince and T-Mac were brilliant in defense, O-Mac *cough, cough, cough*

- Took a while but Hunt & Viney really worked themselves into the game.

- Ball movement sharp and played the possession game well, smart footy, this group is starting to come along!

CARN DEES!!!!!

Well, after watching Petracca today, I sure hope the Saints supporters will get behind Paddy McCartin in the VFL game tomorrow.

I want to flag Weidemans attack on the ball in the air - quite frankly he isn't delivering on the outcomes consistently as yet , my word though, he will. He glides, yet attacks with oomph - the sure hands will develop.

    BLOODY BLUES by Meggs

The conclusion to Narrm’s home and away season was the inevitable let down by the bloody Blues  who meekly capitulated to the Bombers.   The 2024 season fixture handicapped the Demons chances from the get-go with Port Adelaide, Brisbane and Essendon advantaged with enough gimme games to ensure a tough road to the finals, especially after a slew of early season injuries to star players cost wins and percentage.     As we strode confidently through the gates of Prin

Melbourne’s most important player who dominated the first half of the season until his untimely injury in the Kings Birthday clash put an end to his season. At the time, he was on his way to many personal honours and the club in strong finals contention. When the season did end for Melbourne and Petracca was slowly recovering, he was engulfed in controversy about a possible move of clubs amid claims about his treatment by the club in the immediate aftermath of his injury. LIVE AND LET DIE by Meggs

The Demons’ impressive late season charge to finals will most likely come unstuck this Saturday evening when the Bombers blow up the also-ran Blues in the Ikon Park double-header.   To mangle McCartney, what does it matter to ya? To have any chance to play next week Narrm has got a job to do and needs to do it well.  We’ve got to give the Pie sheilas hell, say live and let die! It’s Indigenous Round for this game and the chance to celebrate and engage with Aboriginal and Torres
