Who won the Norm Smith medal last year ? (which I didn't agree with) - I know that Johannisen plays HBF - but both are more outside players ( I think Parish actually gets more of his own hardball than Johannisen) - same height and almost the same weight. Both to a large extent both need the heavy lifters to get the ball out to them, or at least need space to be at their most destructive. 

All I know is we got an absolute pearler in Oliver and I believe that Essendon got a beauty as well. Both are valuable but in entirely different ways.

i was surprised to see johannisen was only 180cm :o

    Absolutely, and Parish won't get caught out in the heat of a final. 

    We all know that Oliver is a contested ball winning beast and he came 60th in the league for contested possessions, which is terrific for a first year teenager, but Parish is no slouch in the cp department either.  In fact he came 69th.

    49% of Oliver's possessions were contested, which is an elite ratio, while 43% of Parish's possessions were contested, which is also excellent.

    The number 1 player in the game for CP (total) was Josh Kennedy, who averaged 54% and Dangerfield averaged 50%.

    By percentages Patrick Cripps is no.1 in the league at 62%.

    It depends on how he is measured. If they measure him from the top of his scalp he is 180cm. If they measure him from the top of his hair he is 216cm.

    Possibly.  I hope Oliver develops his outside game so that he stays around the 50% CP mark, but gets more of it.

    What I really like is that despite some off field issues at the start of pre season Oliver is now in tipping condition and looks set for a really good year

    IMO Oliver's biggest issue last year was his tank. He couldn't run out games. If he can run out four quarters, even three and a half quarters regularly, he will rack up the stats. 25-30 possessions per week easily. And as you say PD, if he continues to develop his outside game, he'll have no problem hitting 30 touches weekly. The West Coast game should be his blue print for the rest of 2017. He used his feet superbly to open up play, but still got a tone of it inside as well.

    Hogan will be a star and what he's managed to do for a CHF is nothing short of phenomenal, but Oliver has walked straight in (similar to Ollie Wines really) and had a major impact on the inside. That's why I have Clarry's ceiling as higher than Jesse's, but I want both of them in my team. They're both match winners. 

    It's important to note that the biggest difference between the ceiling of someone like Wines and even my favourite Cripps, is Clarry's ability by hand and in particular by foot. Both of those other guys are limited by foot. For mine Clarry is a Sam Mitchell clone.

    Cripps is a physical beast, I think he is underrated by many.

    I love Oliver, but I'd be shocked if he surpassed Cripps any time soon.

    Cripps is going to be one of the best in the league, Oli is on the path but not there yet. Cripps dominance against us late last season was incredible to watch.

    I wish Clarry moved like shinkansen! I have him more in the "James" from Thomas the tank engine category. More of a solid worker than a jet.

    What I think goes unnoticed about clarry a bit given his grunt and amazing quick hands is his ball use, went at 88% and opened the game right up multiple times. 

    Hes a beast on the inside but looks capable of doing serious damage on the outside.

    I took this as a challenge, I think I felt a compulsion to get a lid on. But really, even after looking over a whole lot of top picks and players in recent years, there just aren't many cases.

    I've done a run-through of the other 'teen star' contenders, I would be quite happy to have them be Oliver's peers and equals!

    The obvious 'set' of stars who managed to dominate a few games even as teenagers includes -

    Fyfe, Martin, Selwood, Bontempelli, Macrae and Cripps

    Others worth noting -

    Toby Greene, Harley Bennell, Chad Wingard, Oliver Wines, Isaac Heeney

    Lance Franklin managed two bags of six in his second season, but it wasn't until his third that he really took off (game for game, Hogan is a mile ahead of his curve :)  )

     

    For the record, saturday's effort was definitely the best individual game so far from anyone in Oliver's draft.

    Given his best work is done in close and with such quick hands, I'm not sure they would be able to stop him.

    I am extremely confident he will be fine! So much of his best work is In tight anyways and if they tag him it leaves Viney jones and Lewis on their own which seems dangerous amazing to think dom Tyson who I seriously rate is probably 5th or 6th in line in our mids now.

      A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

      The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

      Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.
