Another saviour, like Chri$$$$$ Judd?

Surely you are not questioning the motives of the Great Man when after putting us on his shortlist (after all  we were his childhood team) ,  he found our training facilities not quite up to his elite expectations.  Then there was his shared passion with Dick Pratt for environmental issues requiring a special media position for guess who.

Heard yesterday via a Saints person, that they believed Fyfe was going to Carlton. Same as I was told by a Carlton person a few weeks ago.

Saints person said Lewis was considered a great get by us, by the other clubs.

Then I would think Cripps maybe headed back home...can't see them paying big $$$'s for Fyfe and holding him (Cripps) without a real shot at a premiership on offer.

...and lets face it they don't have a real shot in the foreseeable future.

They only have next season to win a flag after that they  are in real trouble, they have given away a lot for him,  in draft picks and letting go young players

On what i have seen at WAFL and how quickly some improved last season don't underestimate how good Blakeney, Weller, Hughes, Alex Pearce, Neale, Griffin Logue and Harley Balic can form a very good nucleus in a few years time. Football changes very quickly

Think Cripps extended his contract this year.

So is it worth it given that some of the high priced, big name "saviours" in recent times like Ablett, Judd, Franklin and Dangerfield haven't brought their clubs any premierships to date?

I think you're confused.  "Saviours" save something.  We don't need saving, we need improving.  Fyfe would improve us, to suggest otherwise is silly.  He would help us win a flag. It's purely whether we can afford him.

As was stated before, the AFL and Jackson were our saviours in the very real sense of the word.

I think you're the one who's confused.

Firstly, may I refer you to the OP which specifically mentions players. The AFL and PJ have certainly helped the club through a difficult period but no less than the supporters who buy memberships and kick in their money to the club without who it would not survive.

Secondly, I looked up the dictionary definition and it says:-

noun

1. a person who saves, rescues, or delivers: the savior of the country.

I'm using the broader definition. Those players mentioned were recruited to deliver a flag to those clubs and they've all failed to date. In some cases they made it even more difficult for their clubs e.g. Judd cost Carlton plenty in terms of the players it lost and the salary cap position it was placed into as a result. I am happier that our club has resisted that sort of recruiting and gone more with our youth policy in recent years.

On the subject of saviours (or perhaps would be saviours), I spoke to the person who was previously connected with the Suns who had some knowledge about the knee injuries suffered by Jaeger O'Meara and Dion Prestia. His view remains that their knees are in a bad way and that he doesn't believe either will have a long term future at their respective clubs.

If that's true Jack then it's very sad for the players involved but fantastic for the Hawks (in particular).  Having said that I remember Andrew McLeod being said to be finished after about 200 games. He went on to play 340.

I'd love to see the Hawks fail, had enough of them.  I've also had enough of bleeding Geelong on Fox Footy.  Every second game is of them.

You may get your wish.

With the Hawks, they have lost their 2016 B & F and runner up. Two hard nuts in the mid field. They have Hodge, Burgoyne and Gibson on their last legs. Roughead can't be expected to carry the key forward role. Jaeger is an unknown quantity as far as his injury. Tom Mitchell won't have the cover of quality mids he had with the Swans. I can see them dropping down the ladder.

As for Geelong they have lost Bartel, Enright and Caddy. Their mids to me, are Dangerfield and Selwood, with some help from Guthrie. Stop one of Danger or Selwood and the pressure on the other is enormous.  Lonergan is nearly finished and they have Tom alone up forward, with Kersten gone. Tom to me is past his best. I can see the Cats dropping significantly.

PS. The Roos IMO will also drop, with their loss of experienced players and their two best ball carriers, in Boomer and Wells gone.

The 3rd man up rule will also hurt them significantly. They rely on too few, if Danger goes down they are shot.

Agree with the Roos, think they will finish bottom 4.

If 'Jack's' source is correct on O'Meara then the Hawks will be in some trouble. They have taken a big punt on the medical team to get it right.

...Interesting times ahead.

I agree it would be sad for the players involved, particularly O'Meara because he was so talented before the injury and I believe he could have become one of the game's greats.

I think Hawthorn still has a year or two left  as a power - you can't underestimate a team coached by Clarkson.

I have a solution to your problem with Geelong and Foxtel. Watch every other   second game and you"ll never see them?.

As WJ has alluded to, MFC's previous experiences with so called "saviours" has hardly been fruitful.

Poor old Jim tried to be, but to the detriment of his well-being.

Gutnick came along and headed the anti-merger group, but if it wasn't for the Dorks and their supporters' voting against it, it would have happened.

The closest we've had to a saviour in recent times is by far and away PJ, whilst Roos also got us back on track. But both have made a considerable effort to not be seen as "saviours". It's more that they are/were one piece of the jigsaw, to get things going in the right direction and that it takes more than one person to keep a football club on the straight and narrow.

One thing is for sure though, i'm extremely pleased that we have PJ locked in until at least the end of 2018.

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to
