Do you mean (or did they mean) up, out or developmental?

All. Up, muscle and skill. Didn't go too much into it other than really excited about Lachlan getting a go, understands about Brayshaw not being drafted but can see him getting a go in 2018 if he has an injury free season, and very proud of so many top 10 picks.

I hope he sees more than Jack (Viney) did with Jimmy Toumpas.

Whilst Max might have been consulted I doubt his opinion would have carried the weight a lot on here seem to think.

Max wasn't consulted, he worked with him at Sandy Dragons on his ruck craft, Max wants to be coach after finishing playing and this is part of the beginning, Max thinks there is great upside, so does Greg Stafford, I asked, Stafford is more than satisifed with the ruck division we now have

If Stephen Silvagni was SOS, I assume Josh Daicos will be SOFYROMM (Son of Former Yugoslavian Republic of Macedonian Marvel*)

*With thanks to 3AW's Ross Stevenson who gave Peter Daicos the "corrected" nickname.

Only a quarter Prussian. Half Swabian, a quarter Prussian and a quarter from Essen in the Ruhr. So there, go figure!

Why is King still on the list I understand injuries etc but is he really going to make it?

The list managers, who have done a  bloody great job recently, obviously have more confidence than have you.

Think you might have your Kings mixed up...

The aforementioned list managers presumably do not.

Unfortunately for the world, understanding is not a prerequisite for breeding.

Good point. My grandmother from Prussia was a certifiable lunatic...

We all know he is a painfully frugal psycho but can he ruck?

Love this article and everything it says about the club at present. Taylor backing Gawn in, and along with others, a senior player really keen on young talent and personally taking them under their wing - so much so that it's clearly visible on the field. I'm fairly confident Max will do everything in his powers now not to let the club down.

Lachie Filipovic isn't just a promising young ruckman. In his final year VCE he scored highly in English with 41 and he also managed a 40 in Further Maths.

He looked like he might be a capable forward in training yesterday. I love the way he moves. He is very mobile for a big man.

Further maths IIRC was the easy maths.

Pretty sure it goes general maths, further maths, and one above that?

Further maths, Maths methods, Specialist maths

A score above 40 represents approximately top 9% in that subject.  Those subject scores are very good.

What is a study score?

A study score shows how well you have performed in a study at Unit 3 and 4 level, compared to everybody else in Victoria who took that study. Study scores calculated by the VCAA will be used by the Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC) to calculate the ATAR.

The maximum study score is 50. Each year, and for every study, the mean study score is set at 30. A score of between 23 and 37 shows that you are in the middle range of students; a score of 38 or more indicates that you are in the top 15%.

For studies with large enrolments (1,000 or more):

  • 2% of students will get a score on or above 45
  • 9% of students will get a score on or above 40
  • 26% of students will get a score on or above 35
  • 53% of students will get a score on or above 30
  • 78% of students will get a score on or above 25
  • 93% of students will get a score on or above 20.

Sure, but being in the top 9% for maze drawing in further maths isn't a massive achievement IMO.

ATARS mean very little in the scheme of things. One of my friends got 99.90 (school was [censored], we were the first class to not have a student with a perfect score of 99.95). To get a score like that, you need multiple 50's (perfect score in a subject). He now smokes his life away on weed, sponging off his girlfriend. My brother got 60 something and has a great job as a project manager for a gas wholesaler.

It's a number that gets you into uni, or not. It's not a measure of intelligence or work ethic.

Fair go mate, I think its fair proof that he's not a one trick pony.

It means he paid attention in 2 classes.

It doesn't mean he's some sort of Renaissance man.

He is Leonardo Bloody DaVinci compared to the majority of AFL footballers (and that is O.K. 'cos I only need them to play football, and I'm glad they did their 10,000 hours on a Sherrin). But yes you are right, Rhodes scholar he is not, I think only Mike Fitzpatrick has that, and then, probably the Cordners are the next brightest ruckmen to play.

edit, the more obvious grammar mistakes,

Stef Martin, Will Minson, Mike Pyke. All types can be a ruckman.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
