Can't win with some.  He gets criticised for getting paid so much more than other players and then gets mocked over this.

Disappointed for Chris as things basically turned to poo, got a bit better then bottomed out again.

The coach he followed to Melbourne would be gone by mid season amid a run of losses that probably would have made him make some discrete visits to the Westpac centre to see if he could come back.

2014 was better but still the team was largely awful though he did win the goal kicking. 

The last two years basically saw him re litigating the same debate that occurred at Collingwood in his last days: do we go with a second forward who can pinch hit in the ruck or Dawesy? The outcome was the same as what happened at the Pies.

However, I feel that Chris' contribution will be more telling down the road. He provided a mature head during those dark early days. I sound like a broken record but it still stays with me when he contradicted Neeld during a presser and said that providing effort was a bare minimum and not something to be 'pleased over'. Jesse Hogan apparently loved playing with him as he was able to make the room that allowed the other forwards to get the best out of themselves (and is basically the role the Bear played/will play).

Michie - Rookie. Hardly think his salary makes any difference.

Newton - Not a rookie, but see above. Hardly think his $$$ makes any difference given he would have been on the minimum to begin with.

Dunn - Still contracted and wanted a change of clubs.

So all 3 are irrelevant examples. Plus there's the fact Dawes was still classed as a leader and clearly felt like he wanted to contribute if he could. Hardly something to pot someone about.

i love the fact that our team has evolved.  I see the role he played is now superseded by Hogan.  Our game style has evolved, and Chris helped us fill this void and allow Hogan to develop.  With Hogan re-signing, he was surplus to needs.  And we don't really know yet where Goody will take our structures and gameplan.

We have limited places and specific needs.  With Hogan, Weids and Hulett, and with Pedo in reserve, our young forward line has the pieces.  A ruck/forward is the bit that is missing, to support Maxy.  Mitch King will have a lot of admirers if he can step up into this role.  Dawes, simply was overtaken in his role.

Have nothing against CD in a personal sense.  He tried hard I'm sure, however in the end he was paid huge money for very little success as an individual at the MFC.  Overrated and lucky to get that sort of money.

Average AFL salary is 380k, the rumour was Dawes was paid 500k. Hardly call that "huge money" when taken in context.

I loved his effort.  His on field leadership I thought was honest and natural.  Not nearly as much of a donkey as many on here suggest.  Injuries and a developing team, the stars just did not align for him to be viewed as a successful recruit.  As for the money he was paid, thats not his problem.   I never look at players and analyse their performance against their salary.  Its a stupid, pointless thing to do.  Dawes represented our club with integrity and tried his hardest and played very well and competed very well numerous times.  What more could he do in an ordinary side?   Thanks for your efforts Dawesy.

Part of footy landscape.. It's called list mgt .. Ask Lewis & Mitchell .. 4 time premiership players .. Both 1& 2 in b&f  & moved on!  I'm sure club tried to trade him as they did for Dunn..

44 x 330 = $14.52M

leave out rookies 40 x 330 = $13.2M

Firstly, you do understand what "average" means yes?

Secondly, I'm quoting official AFL figures so maybe you want to write to their accounting department for an explanation of "total player payments across the competition reached a record $200.2 million", which equals $11.12 million per club (over the salary cap).

OR maybe you can comprehend that maybe you don't know everything....

btw i didn't originally query the 300 figure, just your revised figure of 330 which somehow you thought 300 justified your 330
