Will go to the Lions for a pick in the 50s or so. He's turning 30 next year and barely cracked a game this year. Lions desperately need kpp so will bring him in and give him games.

He has been a good servant of the club so they will move him on cleanly with minimal fuss and not screw him around like previous elder players.

The other thing I noticed with Dunn on the weekend was a continuation of the predictable kick-in from the opposition's behinds. The little kick to himself, three or four paces outside the goal square and then a long kick to a pack on his RHS. Exactly the same as most kick-ins when he was in the seniors. It may have been under instructions, but whether or not, it was awfully predictable.

I took an interest in watching what Dunn was doing that would keep him out of the seniors. I thought he had a good game but agree that most of his kickins and other kicks were to a contest or pack.  A later poster on here mentioned the length of his kicks and there's no doubt most of kicks were monstrous, however, I was starting to wonder if the senior style requires less distance, but to a player on his own.  The attacks stalled a little due to the contest where the ball dropped on his big kicks.  This was the only issue that I could see. He moved well, used his body well, ran up the ground and provided a target, so I assume his issue is to do with lowering his gaze and hitting up someone free, closer to goal rather than a big kick to a contest.

Lol So you're saying you rate Dunn as highly as Hogan or Viney?

Ok then...

Nope, I'm saying that if you want to pay absurd overs for him, you might as well go all the way. Pretty sure everyone else understood that.

What do you think VFL backman Dunn is worth then?

As I said earlier, we start at their second round pick. :P

More likely we will see a player swap I would think.

You think Dunn is worth pick 20?!

It's not just the distance that Dunn kicks that's impressive, but the power and accuracy. It's the best way to dismantle a forward press by the opposition. I think the Dunn haters are being disingenuous with their assessment of Dunn's kicking on Sunday.

We had Bernie Vince in the backline for a large part of the season, and I always thought that he was one of the best kicks at the club. For the most part, his kicking was deplorable out of defence.

If that were to be the case, who do you think the club would be looking at?  There isn't much quality up there at the minute.

Plus I still think that if we can talk them in to a second round pick then we take it, as it will be a direct replacement for the one we lose for Hibberd.

To be fair, he did say 'start at' their second round pick.

They would laugh and walk away.

Ridiculous call. Ridiculous.

While I don't think it's ridiculous, I think that starting there is not out of the question.  We're more likely to get a third rounder for him, but why start there?  It's a negotiation after all.  Better to start above what you expect and negotiate from there.

You don't think pick 20 for Dunn is ridiculous?

Are you all drunk today or what?

If we're lucky we'll get their 4th round pick. FMD Dunn played 4 games this year. 4.

I agree chap, not sure about Hanley, maybe it is because of the season the team had, but bit like Dunny seems to have stalled, although maybe a new start, but do we need another half back? Think a pick would be better

I think a pick suits us better as well.  Outside of Rockliff, Zorko and possibly Martin, there isn't a whole heap of quality up there at the minute.  Those guys mentioned are worth more than Dunn and nothing else interests me.  A pick is the way to go.

And I agree - a fresh start for Dunny would be a good move for all involved.

I want to bargain with you some day Stuie.

You do understand that you don't begin by asking for what you actually want right? We start at their second round pick , looking for either a player we want or maybe their third round pick. Hell, while we're giving ground on our original position, why not see if they'll go for a third round pick plus swapping second round picks?

Hey why stop here, let's go in and ask for Hanley, Rockliff and pick 2. Can't hurt hey?

Why are you against us doing some negotiating with them over picks?

By all means we negotiate, but if we're silly about it we'll spend all week on a trade to get a 4th round pick.

I don't think it goes that way - we say second rounder, they say fourth, we meet in the middle at a third.  Won't take that long to get there, plus if Dunn indicates that he wants to go then I'm sure the discussions will begin prior to trade week.

No worries champ. I'll keep a list of you posters who think we'll get pick 20 for Dunn and I'll get back to you when/if the trade is done.

No, it can't.

Unless of course we spend all week mucking around with that rubbish and don't end up getting Hibberd or any of our other targets... Ahhh good times.

How about we just be sensible at the trade table? That's usually Mahoney's approach so I'll go with that too.

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
