This is a big tick for Goodwin as well (Do we buy a case of something for our recruiting department? I think they have kicked this one over the wheat silo) Could not be more stoked or surprised - and if Lewis comes to the MFC then anyone can, we are a #destinationclub.

Wow and we didn't even give up any picks? Just downgraded our 3rd and 4th rounders? Mahoney is a genius.

Amazing really, I think the smoke and mirrors is to confuse some Hawthorn supporters into thinking they got two picks. Great trading by Mahoney and the FD. Two small downgrades - Wow!

I'm assuming that the players we are going to pick with those picks will be available regardless of pick 48 or pick 57 and pick 66 or pick 68.

Great win by the Dees.

What a great PR exercise for us and a terrible one for the Hawks!  if they had worked with Lewis to find a trade they would have gotten a pick in the 30's at least

Unbelievable deal!

Less than 6 months until round one!   Hurrraahhh!   **cough

Confusing all hell out of significant proportion of their membership base...

I love his use of the word that I have put in bold below.

"I looked at every Club in the competition and after going through every list, Melbourne was the one that stood out – if I wasn’t going to be at Hawthorn. It was clear to me that I wanted to play for the Melbourne Football Club.

“I then met with Goody, Josh and Todd early last week and following that, it really solidified my thoughts about joining Melbourne.

“I believe in what the Club is building. There is some outstanding young talent at the Club and that is an area I can certainly play a role in – mentoring and developing those players both in an on-field and off-field sense.

“I’m really looking forward to this new challenge. We have a lot of work to do but from what I know, and from what I have seen firsthand, the players seem up for the fight and I can’t wait to get to work at the Club."

I shall add to the chorus.  Great news.  Really rate this guy.  Have enjoyed watching him on AFL 360.  Hope he continues on there next year - in his new livery, of course!

Go Dees!

This is a brilliant move.

We absolutely lack mature leadership. This takes so much pressure off Jones, and Bernie who I think is on his last legs.

It means we have someone who can mentor our young players, and show them what it takes to be part of a premiership club, while also being a big body to support our developing mids and help push them when things are not going our way during games.

I strongly believe that Goodwin has his eyes firmly set on making finals next year.

Maybe one day we'll even be "the team that's the hardest to play against in the AFL".

Too soon?

The 7% must be brown eyed Hawthorn supporters.
