What's Jordan L got that Jimmy B doesn't have (apart from the occasional P)?

Certainly not hair

JL hasn't even reached the 'resting backman' stage yet. I would think that JL has two to three years max and 2 of those in the midfield, as opposed to JB's 1 year total anywhere.

It would be nice to add a player that has been involved in a premiership success era, however you cut it. Be it 1 year and then coaching or more. Essendon are even adding James Kelly for an extra year and most people thought he was cooked. Shows that he has brought something beneficial to the club on and off the field.

He's contracted so I can't see Hawthorn letting him go. Might be some more to play out but I doubt it happens.

Just on watching Hawks and Cats most recent games, I know who I would be drafting for two years and it ain't going slightly bald!

I wonder if he thinks we have got a better list of youngsters than Hawthorn, I do.

They fall away sharply after their star players.

Lewis is past his best. Seemed treacle slow at times this season. Even in today's AFL not all players can maintain their form into their 30s. Would not mind him as a coach.

Given Hawks extended Mitchell mid season and then Hodge, Burgoyne and Gibson late in the season it seems likely that Clarkson was so shaken by the loss to the Bullies that he has accelerated their list rebuild. Exiting their reigning best and fairest and best midfielder Sam Mitchell, is obviously a salary cap dump. So was their initial dialogue with Lewis. Some of the space may have been needed to more easily fit O'Meara, T Mitchell and Vickery but it could also be used to frontload 2018 payments to to 2017. This, with the likely retirements of Hodge, Burgoyne and Gibson, means they would have plenty of cap space to go shopping for free agents or destination club types next off season too. Fyfe? Gold Coast or Giants mids?

Past his best?? He came 2nd in the Hawks b&f and I do believe they went ok this year

Were you at the QF this year between said clubs?  Despite the hyperbole about Danger's performance, Lewis was BOG and had 36 possessions.  Struggled the next week after an injury 10 mins in.  2nd in their B&F this year so can still play a bit!

For a deal to be agreed Lewis was obviously well down the road of accepting his career at the Hawks was over. From the outside it would appear there has to be some bad blood now between Lewis & the Hawks FD. How does that then just flip 180 again in the space of a couple of hours? I think this will play out over the next couple of days, if Lewis is genuinely upset he may force Hawthorn's hand & request a trade.

It does seem really strange that you would go to all the trouble of putting together a contract and discussing particulars, only to just backflip after a conversation in the afternoon? Surely you would go away and give it thought if you were that determined to leave in the first place.

Very strange.

Wow!! Would be an awesome pick up, what would the hawks want? They clearly don't want to lose him, would be nice pay back for Bruce and Frawley...  Get it done Dee's!!

I just cant understand why he would want to come to us. I mean we won't win the premiership next year and hopefully but maybe not play finals either. Does he want September off or something.

But is is nice to actually see a player want to come to our club. Geez Clarko seems to be putting some noses out of joint.

i reckon there would be plenty of mids who would love to have Max Gawn dropping it down their throats.

I'm keen. Would prefer not pay anything for him, but I'm keen.

He is a free agent at the end of the 2017 season. Watch this space then, methinks ...

Apart of me thinks the required player thing is just a tactic, to get more for ageing stars... They need to drop the age of their group or they'll fall like the Aussie cricket team did, when the greats retired... Who knows? The Mitchell trade could be a decoy for this one? Or vice-verser....

Good get for us and a necessary move for the Hawks....

Until Lewis or his management have said he's staying at the hawks, this is still every chance. The only people to downplay this has been hawthorn, and they have every reason to do so.

He'd definelty help our mids in the short and long term.

He would be a good leader for a couple of years until our midfield develops more then move him into coaching.

It's defiantly what we needed in those close games this season.

We should with all our top draft picks.

So what gets it done?  As an ageing star, He's probably got two solid years left...

Would Trengove and Dawes get it done?

What kind of compensation do they get next year, if he walks?

so many questions

Wow, this kind of negativity kinda depresses me

Jordan Lewis clearly disagress

Saw on Twitter before that Melbourne and Hawthorn had even engaged in trade talks and said the deal was going to be "next to nothing". Tomorrow will be an interesting day!

Those that were completely fooled by the Sam Mitchell interviews must surely have re calibrated their naivety/gullibility radar.

How do you think it will be interesting??

When a thread touting Boomer was started I stated my opposition. Now I realise Lewis is somewhat younger and I acknowledge his credentials. HOWEVER, we are developing shite loads of young talent - lets continue down that path. .

Not an exact equivalence, but I don't think getting Daniel Cross did any harm to the development of our young talent.

However just need to pick him up for a good price, as I wouldn't support giving up too much for him at this point.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
