VFL GRAND FINAL - CASEY SCORPIONS v FOOTSCRAY BULLDOGS

Featured Replies

Tim Smith is creating a stir in my pants. Deserves a chance at AFL level.

Meanwhile Grimes is making me feel like a right goose for defending him.

Can someone post the score?

Tim Smith deserves a go on an afl list. I know he's the wrong side of 25, but he's a really good third tall forward.

Oliver, Ben Ken, and Terlich all really solid I thought, unfortunately ANB, Grimes and Matt Jones can get it but their skills are not good enough, and Weideman and Hullet look like genuine prospects.

Would give Abbey Holmes a run also...

You're right. Pretty pathetic of this unexciting mob of youngsters who've made the VFL Grand Final and have the lead at half time, against the seconds team of this year's Grand Finalists.

If it was a mob of youngsters, I'd be enthused. Spencer, Garland, Grimes, Dunn, Trengove, Terlich, M.Jones are past it. Kennedy, Michie, White and Newton are VFL standard. ANB's disposal isn't VFL standard. Huelett doesn't look AFL standard, but I'd give him time.

I stand by what I said. Oliver, Weid and J. Smith are the only players that I'm excited by.

Brayshaw, Petracca, Salem etc? Most of our young talent is already in the seniors.

I suppose you mean in the context of those playing in this game, although I didn't read it that way.

Oliver, Weed, Hullet all look promising for the future for the MFC and Ben Ken and Joel Smith have things we lack in senior side - pace and tackles with intensity.

I am not convinced about ANB or the other former senior players as to whether they're 'afl' level.

That's exactly what I said.

Great discussion to be having during the Grand Final. You must feel really proud of yourself.

Casey by 6 points at half time.

Paging @ProDee. If you're watching the Casey game, the commentators just said the Casey KPFs contested marking is starting to beclme a factor, whereas the Bulldogs are struggling without a recognisable KPF taking grabs. A bit like their senior team. They might pinch the flag today, but it won't give them sustained success. KPFs is where it is. Quality KPFs turn games and enable clubs to build dynasties.

Isn't it stating the obvious to say the players who have been in the VFL all year might not be AFL grade?

It's our 23rd-44th ranked players playing in this game. I'm not sure what people are expecting.

Exactly

Dogs have been putting some attention into ANB, and think he's getting tagged by Adcock. If that keeps him away from Clarrie, then it's a win for us.

Looking to our future, not much to get excited about other than Oliver, Weid and J. Smith. Plenty of effort and good tackling by the rest, but poor disposal and no speed is the reason why most are playing at Casey.

Feel free to swap channels........and teams

I couldn't care less if Casey lost the game and we had 10 promising youngsters out there, who looked AFL standard. The whole point of Casey is as a development team.

BTW, I grew up a Coburg supporter who went to 3 winning Grand Finals. I have no sentiment towards Casey other than being a feeder club.

I don't care about Casey either per se, but I do care about the players who have busted their arses all year, several of whom have given a lot to the MFC over the years. They deserve this reward for effort and I really hope they get it.

If you have little or no vested interest in this game, I'm not sure why you're in this thread raining on everyone else's parade.

2 quick goals to Footscray to start the quarter. Casey need to wake up.

Grimes OOTF... wonder how many of those he's had in his career... our defence has been hammered with so many entries in this match. Done well so far to hold back the tide

Just saying it's not the time or the place.

Sometimes you just need to resist that temptation to push the "Reply" button.

Your goal again Grimes. How people rate him I'll never know. The same people that rated Moloney most likely.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
