Simon Goodwin era starts today

Seems less comfortable talking off a script, as he did at the start of his press conference, but answered questions with ease.

Haha, loved the whack from PJ directed at Collingwood. That's two whacks directed at two big Victorian clubs in the past 2 weeks.

I just want to follow a consistent and successful team for once.

I hope that Goody has it in him cause I don't think I could go through another coaching change and rebuild again.

As long as we don't go back to being the hardest team to watch again. I can't do that again!!!!

What did he say?

Said the succession plan has been smooth process unlike a team across the road (dig at Malthouse to Buckley transition).

It's a double whack against the Pies because that's exactly the kind of jab Eddie likes to poke at other clubs.

If true to form Eddie will not be able to contain himself and will "retaliate" with some mouthing off on the radio.

If that's actually what he said then that's an extraordinary error if judgement.

Hardly "extraordinary" and hardly an "error of judgement". Well documented that Micky wasn't on board, won the flag then showed the Pies the forks before matching off to the Blues and enjoyed Buckley dropping further down the ladder every year... I.e. Micky didn't leave Bucks a list or club with which he'd succeed...

PJ was spot on and good on him for saying it.

Bucks playing for his career in 2017.

Well sure, assuming Goodwin works out. Won't look so smooth if we win 6 games next year.

Really quite a long way to go before our succession plan can be ticked off as 'smooth'.

Happy for PJ to put some skin in that game.

Maybe ur right. If it all goes [censored] up,  PJ's little quip will be the least of my concerns.

I like the attitude of poking the "Big boys", has a feel of a club confident it is on the rise and prepared to back itself.

That we finished higher than both clubs, beat both easily, and have a better list and more stable club at the moment are the exact points PJ should be pointing out to the footy community, especially players considering a move to a Melbourne club.

There is a difference between smooth and successful.

It could be one, both or neither.

Clearly in our case it has been smooth, as Roos and Goodwin believe in it and support it.

MM did not and he and Bucks clearly can't stand each other.

As for successful, well we will see in time.

Goodwin was a great player. I hope he can be known more for being a great coach.

My fingers are crossed, I hope he becomes the next clarko!

Nice interview with Goody on SEN run home.

Has a sound head, no hyperbole. I get the impression of stability and continuity and reckon that's just what the players need at this stage of development. Results will have the final say of course but there's something nice about there being no hullabaloo around our new head coach taking over.

The importance of this should not be be underrated. In normal circumstances when a new coach takes over there is always a big song and dance as the club looks to brand the coach on the club and sell him to the fans who are looking for progression and hop. Of course the players also have to get used a new coach. Neither of these issues apply to us, which is terrific.

Yep, thanks, LT. Was put at pub trivia, so I missed your post CB. :)

Too early to tell if Goodwin will be 'smooth or successful'. Let's just wait and see before jumping up and down. We've come from a long way back and are yet to take a wicket despite good line and length.

PJ is simply saying the transition has been successful. That is fact. It has.

We are. And not just on the wings. All over the ground, is the inside mail.

'Successful' is an arbitrary term jnr.

Not fact.
