Anyone else going to be concerned if we go into next year without a backup for Gawn next year?

I've convinced myself that this is what our 2nd round pick this year is for...because I don't think we will go with only Spencer as the back up.

I guess we wait and see how things look at the end of the trade/draft period.

Just reported on SEN that Dunn to Collingwood will go through soon. No mention of picks involved.

Good pick up by Pies.

That actually makes a lot of sense.  Probably a better player than Nathan Brown.

The AFL has made one change to its bidding system that will come into immediate effect this year, with clubs no longer able to access 'hidden picks' during the draft.

It means clubs will only be able to enter the draft with the number of selections that matches the available primary list positions at that time.

Last year some clubs entered the draft with more picks than they had available spots on their list. The extra picks were purely held so they could pay for academy prospects that attracted early bids.

http://www.afl.com.au/news/2016-08-22/draft-loophole-to-remain-despite-some-clubs-concern

I remember reading somewhere that there will also be a one off exception this year to clubs that have traded in future picks at the end of 2015. Collingwood got a future 2nd round pick from St kilda so my understanding is that they could then use one extra pick for points. This will be closed fully next year. My understanding anyway.

I think we'll take that pick to the draft to add some more run and class and we'll find a back up in the delisted players/late round pick/rookie draft.

We'll also pray that Mitch King's knee holds up and that he comes on pretty quickly, which he might. Seems a natural competitor.

Makes sense for them.

With Keefe coming off 2 years off he affords him time to get back up to speed and for the filth to find another young key back and get some miles into their legs at VFL level.

Happy for Dunn to get another gig.

So what pick are we likely to get back? Or could they have a player in mind?

As I posted earlier.  I'm hoping for a three way involving Witts to GC and Pick 62.

Late pick is the rumour.

Dunn will go alright at Collingwood. He is much more suited to 1v1 defending. Keen to see what we get back.

Darren Jolly #31 2001 rookie draft

Traded for pick #14 2004 Lynden Dunn

The Pies have the 2 picks ahead of the ones we just swapped for Lewis.

I'd like to swap the ones we got from Hawthorn back to Collingwood for the picks ahead of our original ones.

So we end up with Lewis for Dunn and two 1 pick upgrades. That might be a little ambitious but I think Dunn has enough currency for slight upgrades.

You would think so he is contracted and the pies need him more than we need to get rid of him. But i guess his time in VFL takes most of that power off us.

If we have 57 & 68 and they have 56 & 67, what about our 68 for their 56?

They have 47 and 65, both a spot ahead of our picks before we downgraded them for Lewis. I want 47 for 57 but that might be too much to ask for. I don't think it is for a key defender. Talls don't grow on trees.

Need to go to the draft with our second rounder after using our first on the Weid last year.

Trading our second away would risk missing any of the top end talent in this years draft altogether.

I reckon the Hibberd deal is only being held up by us persisting that next years second is the only deal we're interested in.

I reckon Watts actually outperforms in the ruck, goes OK in there IMO.

Watts goes ok as a fourth midfielder (a lot of his dashes through the centre of the ground were when he was playing ruck), but he doesn't have the body/ strength to match it with most ruckman and his body simply wouldn't be able to take it long term.

Barrett & Wallace discussing Richmond and the Prestia deal.

So they come out and offer him 700K or whatever a season without being willing to pay their pick 6.

They are a joke.

They want to pay pick 6, but want something back

Yep, so it makes them a joke.  How they haven't got this deal done already is beyond me.  It's pathetic.

Gold coast are rightly arguing that if you rate a guy as being worth 750 k for 5 years you see him as a genuine A grader so pick 6 outright is a fair price, Tigers are weak so they will blink and give up pick 6

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
