With 22x22 'player-games' in a season and one round to go, those players aged over 28 at North have played 220 out of a team total of 462. 

Not even mentioning Hanse, Nahas, or Ray. If you throw them in as loose change, then more than half North's fielded team has been 28 or older this season.

Meanwhile, Ben Brown might be the only player under 25 in North's B&F top 10.

We agree with eachother above.

My argument would be that just because Harvey may not play in our next premiership team, doesn't mean he may not help shape it.

M. Jones, Terlich, Michie, Max King, Dawes, Pedersen, Newton, Grimes. That's 8 players that could well be gone next year befors you even consider Trengove or trading out a JKH, Dunn or Garland. Finding a spot for him on the list while still bringing in youth should be a non issue.

Most clubs play 2 small forwards now. Our main 2 are Garlett and Kent. Harvey would make Kent, Kennedy, JKH work all the more harder and could teach those kids a lot on only 12 months.

I just don't think the club will recruit any players with probably one season to offer.

Cross worked well because of where our list was at the time and the  impact he had on culture and preparation.

Boomer was a perfect fit for Essendon this year, no way known us next year.

I'm surprised that they are cutting them. North have invested heavily in experience to try to pinch a premiership. 

Personally, I would have thought that, given that they have invested so heavily in experience then they would have held on to them while they are still being productive. They have already mortgaged their future, so why wouldn't they see it through when the premiership race is as open as it has been for a long time?

They made the mistake 2 or 3 years ago when they misjudged their list. But there really isn't much to be lost going for an extra year, because the downside isn't very high (relatively .... they're screwed at some point, be it next year or the year after).

I agree 100% with the direction of the club and the need for a clean out, but i have an issue with how this has been handled, surely it could have been done privately, allowing some or all of these guys to announce their retirement and we'd be discussing the great careers they've had and their final games in Melbourne rather than the questionable cutting of older players.

So? heaps of players would announce their retirement and it would be celebrated on the back of not being offered a contract, this just looks bad and messy in my opinion, if they wanted to explore other options they could have said nothing publicly and if they wanted to retire they could have, we'd have never known if not for the statement.

The other 3 I can understand but there are players who you need to treat with higher respect when going through these decisions. The way we handled Junior Mac taught us that lesson.

Harvey is a [censored], and at times a borderline cheat, but he is still a very valuable player and I would say in their top 5 currently. His age shouldn't have much of a bearing on the decision, if he's still playing at a higher level than a younger player that can immediately fill his shoes than I would think he'd have a place on their list. The talk around him continues to centre on him "taking the place" of a younger player. If Melbourne and Carlton have taught the competition anything it's there is a huge value in having experience out on the field to guide the young players and force them to play at a higher standard to get into the team. Gifting spots gets them nowhere.

There is also the baffling decision to do this now. Was they're thinking to get this over and done with before the finals? Just seems really bizarre. 

I hate North and I hope this decision rips the heart out of the club!
