Quite a fair assessment of how Carlton beat Max Gawn. http://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/how-carlton-used-a-combination-of-tactics-to-get-the-better-of-melbourne-ruckman-max-gawn/news-story/8a82c31a2ac5fbd2bcd500ca30c07293  Can't for the life of me understand why we didn't try and negate their tactics.

This last line made me laugh:  'It took the efforts of four players to beat Max Gawn...But beat him Carlton did.'

I think it was purely a matter of poor selection leading to our being beaten by an inferior team.  How can any one justify Mitchie , Weed & ANB being brought in at this stage of the season, off of the back of 3 wins.  Dumb selection backed up by dumb  coaching and dumb playing.  We deserve better service.  Some idiot suggested that we would be hurt by playing finals this year hence the selections. Big picture! Nuff said, just an idiot!

If people can't see that Carlton have the wood on us then they aren't looking, we have beaten them once in the last 9 years. I don't give a stuff if we have different players and coaches and they do as well, they still manage to beat us no matter what. Even back in 2006 when we finished up playing finals and Carlton finished last, they beat us twice and only won one other game for the year.

Who cares who has the wood on us when we've been Fitzroyesque ?

It means nothing.

Our leaders don't know how to react. They just do nothing unless told by coaches. Players like Hodge, Riewoldt and Selwod would take matters into there own hands. Something our leaders constantly fail to do. Just once I would like to see them turn the flow and not sit on there hands waiting for direction from the coaching box.

Why don't you pick the moments when our leaders did react when we were challenged against Hawthorn Port Adelaide Richmond Gold Coast GWS etc..

But no lets kick our leaders when we have 1 or 2 really poor games.

Does that mean we're still "Fitzroyesque" after 3 years of Roos? Because those same teams still have the wood on us.

Pathetic. On so many levels.

Thank-you Paul Roos for your fantastic efforts turning our club around, truth be told though, I won't miss you on game days.

Roos has done a great job & I don't think we realise how far back we were! Stabilised the playing group & help develop a foundation of culture required to play finals! Compare our wins & percentage from when he took over to now .. He's done his job now hopefuly Goodwin & co can take it to the next level!

I'll stop worrying about when we start beating them, 2006 they beat us both times for 2 of their only 3 wins, we were in the finals, hardly Fitzroyesque, they finished last.

I'm surprised it doesn't bother you, we would have finished 3rd instead of 7th in 2006 and had a double chance.

I'm still peed off with our first quarter effort, but Carlton obviously had a clever tactic which we were not prepared for.

All I can say is hopefully we can learn from this and develop counter measures in the off season , so we are in better shape  next year to make a proper run at finals.

Maybe throw Hogan in the middle to create a bit of chaos and break things up, maybe get the ball going our way.

The leaders, so in the present team Jones and Vince with heaps of experience, the rest Gawn who was getting monstered, Viney who was playing his heart out trying to get us back in the game and?  there is only so much you can do, Jones tried so did Viney, Vince is out of form at the moment...they seem to be able to react during the Hawthorn and Port games, could be something to do with the fact there were less passengers

Who cares what happened in 2006 ?  It's utterly irrelevant when the only player on the list was Jones.

The things that concern some supporters are laughable.

I'm not sure why my concern, concerns you.  Look, I think you are one of the more knowledgeable posters on here but I just don't think you place enough importance on our inability to beat the same teams over and over, never mind though, we can't always agree.

I got laughed at, when I suggested that there was a sickness that went through the club from generation to generation and i believe I was right and that Roos and Jackson cut the sickness out. Maybe I've got this one right too.

Your concerns don't concern me, but as a discussion point I have a view on the validity of those concerns.

We couldn't beat Hawthorn, we beat Hawthorn.  We couldn't beat Collingwood, we beat Collingwood.  We couldn't beat Carlton and in 2014 we beat Carlton.  We couldn't win in Adelaide, we won under Roos in Adelaide. We couldn't beat Port, we beat Port - in Adelaide.

We've been the youngest team in the league this year more often than not, so we're still flaky.  I accept that we're still flaky, so flaky results may follow, but I'm rapt with the list that is being developed and the progression we're undertaking.

I certainly have no fear of Carlton, the Saints or Essendon.  In the not too distance future past losses will turn into wins.

But if you want to hang onto some sense of perceived ownership of the MFC by those teams then of course please yourself.

In my opinion it's a view that lacks rigour.

Hawthorn Port and Richmond game we were practically ahead the whole game so I am not sure what leadership needed to do to turn the tide. Against Gold Coast Jack Watts stood up and won the game for us.

Yeah right. Consistently dropping games we should win, no matter how much we improve, means nothing, even if we continue to do it in the next few years like we have in the past.

No idea why it would concern "some" supporters.

No frigging idea what you're talking about or what it had to do with 2006.

Don't reply though.  It's a bore.

PD to me it was the way we lost last weekend. It was a carbon copy of 2015

What did we learn in 12 months?

That is a concern

When a different line up loses in exactly the same fashion to the same oponent something is not right.

So leadership only counts when you're losing ? It has nothing to do with you getting into a winning position ?

Attitude...Which has been a problem in the shadows of the club for Decades.

Roosy has done a magnificent job. I only wish we had him another 2 years. Goodwin better be one mentally strong guy

Michie got better as the game went on. People who are slamming him for his game really make me wonder what they watched. have not seen anyone identifying the poor game of Petracca (47% disposal efficiency is woeful) Stretch who shat himself a couple of time and Brayshaw who does not get enough of the ball fo a mid fielder. In my humble opinion, Michie should have been swung into the mid field because the plonkers we had in there were not up to it ON THE DAY. Roos failed more than any. Did not make any changes even though we were getting rogered all over the place. Blaming Michie Weed and ANB is pathetic.

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
