Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Spot on.

Essendon have a player that wants out. We want him but have the pick in our keep and could otherwise use it well, especially given we don't have a first rounder. We might give it up..... or not.

Who blinks first?

So to become a destination club......we burn a player to make a point that we won't be messed with at the trade table

No. We take the option which best works for us. That's what all clubs do. It's the nature of the business.

So you would be happy to burn a player who has nominated us as his club of choice, [censored] off the new coach coz he is the one who has obviously pushed out the boat for Hibberd, just to prove we have a bigger dick at the trade table?

No, that was my point that there will be more than one offer between the clubs, both will go away and look at all scenarios, I would be very surprised if the deal ended up as just one pick

That we traded #25 and a 4year 400k contract for Melk suggests that we should be able to have that luxury and that we can trust him to not only hold his place but excel at being a rebounding half back. Hibberd shouldn't be in such desperate need. i'm sure he's valuable at that pick - but not so valuable as to compromise any bigger picture trade ideas we might have this year.

I just hope that Melksham steps up to the plate, if we were to walk away from the Hibberd trade and go to the draft/use it elsewhere.

there may well be variances..  hypothetically   say  next years 2nd and and exchange of latter picks for this years say

if that then it ONLY occurred because we jogged their position.

Thing is...EFC have mentally spent what they thought they would get.....thats their arrogant way.  Difference is...we know it ...possibly prepared to test it.,  Go you good Dees

Unless Hibberd is prepared to stay at the Bombers on rookie wages, we have them over a barrel. They've renegotiated contracts for the likes of Hurley on the assumption that Hibberd was leaving, and didn't try to match our contract offer to Hibberd.

Why would we give them anything other than what suits us, and that is next years 2nd rounder. Take it or leave it.

Last year's round two pick for Melksham was hardly a WIN-WIN, when we were unable to play him. Next year's round two for Hibberd is more than fair (no steak knives)!

Gee......the conspiracy theory is alive and well on Demonland....it is trade week, all clubs have a list and what they would like to get/offer, that is why trade 'week' lasts so long, negotiation

Unfortunately neither of you are part of Essendon's trade week team, if we land Hibberd it will be a deal that is suitable to both clubs, nobody foresaw that the EFC players would be banned, it was supposedly done and dusted, Port must feel exactly the same about Ryder

If you think that fine, you are entitled to your opinion, we'll see how the trade period pans out, and then we can all play the usual game of Demonland Kings of Hindsight

Giving away our 2nd rounder this year when we don't have a 1st round pick is NOT suitable to us.

I dislike Essendon as much as the next demon supporter but I don't think it's fair to bash them. There are 2 current trade scenarios. 1 pick is more valuable than the other.

Perhaps a 3rd party could be involved. Or we give them pick 45 as well. Will probably just end up being 2016 2nd

Two things about Hibberd.

The first is that the DL camp who have highlighted him as a good pick-up have underestimated (ignored) one of his main ingredients that he adds to our list - a left foot defender. At present we have Salem and Wagner as our only two left-footers back there while sides like Hawthorn and Sydney have quite a few. Wagner is handy but not a thumping kick like Hibberd, while most of us would like to see Salem tried in the midfield. So Hibberd's acquisition is huge and those that watched him pre-2016 know that he's as tough as nails and will be part of our back seven (six plus one interchange).

The other is I don't quite get why we want to try and trade out of next year's draft already. Perhaps some have got cocky after our improved showing with a young list, but there's no guarantee that we won't slide a little next year as we wait for our young squad to fully mature. And when we grabbed an extra pick last year (for Weideman), we were told by the club that the 2016 draft was shaping as being a little thin. And there's also no obvious other trades on the horizon this year, but next year we may want to use our second round pick - just as we do this year.

One can only presume that our maestro Jason Taylor now is keen on a couple of players who may fall in that 20-30 bracket.

But there are ways of getting back to the second round, even if we have to trade our current pick for Hibberd.

For example - Dunn to Brisbane should net us the Lions third round pick 49.

We then can go after the Gold Coast's pick 25 or 29 on the basis that trading them our two third rounders (picks 46 and 49) will actually earn them more points to be used for either Jack Bowes or Brad Scheer.

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
