hawks would be massive winner there!

more like:

- hawks get o'meara

- gc17 get melbourne 2017 1st rounder, langford

melbourne get hawks 2016 1st rounder, hawks 2017 1st rounder

Why would we need to be involved? Surely the Hawks could get O'Meara without us for 2 first round picks and Langford?

I don't want us to sell out our future for somebody who may never able to be better than just above average, but I would'nt mind it if we were a third-party in a deal where say Jaegar ends up at Hawthorn. A possible scenario could be:

Hawthorn get O'Meara

Gold Coast get Melb2017 1st rounder, somebody like Gunston/ Hartung/ Smith

Melbourne get Hawks2016 1st rounder

If this were to happen, then hopefully the trade would take place after we've completed the Hibberd trade . Acquiring pick 14-18 and Hibberd for our second rounder would lay the foundation for a successful draft/ trade period.

So is this equating our 2017 first rounder to a 2016 pick between 14-18? That would mean we finish 2017 in top 4 for this to be a good deal. If this year's draft was exceptional and next year's not so, then ok. Otherwise can you spell out your logic flamin'?

melbourne 2017 first rounder higher, gives them greater value points for the next in their neverending supply of academy bonuses.

So we're already conceding that we're finishing lower then Hawthorn next year are we???

Personally think he'll end up at Cartank as they're next Judd saviour.

Carlton send 2017 1st Rounder to GC17 while Casboult (Lobb replacement) & Pick 23 this year go to GWS

GWS send Jack Steele to St Kilda

St Kilda send David Armitage to Gold Coast & Pick 46 to Carlton

Gold Coast send O'Meara to Carlton

Carlton get O'Meara & Pick 46, loose 2017 1st Round Pick, Casboult & Pick 23

Gold Coast get Armitage & 2017 1st Round Pick, loose O'Meara

GWS get Casboult & Pick 23, loose Steele

St Kilda get Steele, loose Armitage & Pick 46

Geez the Saints get a bath in that deal.

personally i think O'meara is going to the Saints, it'll be a trade for their 2016 first round pick and a player imo

I don't reckon.

Armitage is 29 next year and slowing ever so slightly.

Steele was bid on with Pick 15 only two years ago and has shown a fair bit in his games so far.

So Pick 46 & a soon to be 29 year old for a rising midfielder isn't to bad I don't reckon.

I think the reality with Steele is that he's not going to get a game there and that's why he's leaving so he might well be good at another club but i doubt the Giants are going to demand the world for him, i certainly wouldn't be giving up an established best 22 leader if i didn't have to.

If the Suns wanted Armo and their first rounder to get O'meara over the line that's a different story.

For what it's worth, on Footy Classified they indicated only 4 teams are in the running. Collingwood frontrunners, followed by Carlton, then Essendon a distant third and Saints behind that.

Hawthorn were "in the mix" but are too focused on getting Tom Mitchell (and can't secure Mitchell and O'Meara in the same trade period).

Clearly Hawthorn can see the writing on the wall. They're [censored] when Mitchell/Lewis/Gibson/Hodge are done and are trying to 'Geelong' their way to ongoing success. Frustrating.

Good thing.

They cant rebuild for the long term by spending all of their first round picks on mid tier talent from other teams. That's never going to replace the quality of Mitchell/Lewis/Hodge.

The only good reason for it, is it takes most of the guess work out of the equation by using draft picks on 18yr olds..

Sorry mate, but I vomit in my mouth whenever I see trade suggestions as biased and one sided as this...from any supporter.

Not sure what Collingwood have to offer since they traded away all there picks last year. Every player is linked to Collingwood for click bait essentially.

Interesting so what are Collingwood going to give up to get him over the line considering they have no first round pick? it's tough to see them being able to get that deal over the line

Carlton, Essendon and the Saints are better chances of getting a trade done

Hawthorn are sliding.

I expect us to rise.  Whether that means we cross eachother, well that's a story for next year.

Sorry I'm not into slitting my wrists like the majority here.

Would be interested to see what Collingwood could offer?

Another gun we seemingly arent in the race for.  Would be nice to be linked to a great player one day.

Regardless of which club O'Meara nominates, GC aren't going to win on the trade. In the position they're in, I'd say they'd prefer players to picks. They'll still get a 1st round pick for Prestia plus our pick for Weideman. Collingwood do have some depth of talent, so it wouldn't surprise me if a package of Oxley, Langdon and 2nd rd pick would get the deal done.

Just remember what Geelong gave up for Dangerfield, because O'Meara's market value is about a third of the price.

Yes  A@C everybody expects us the rise the question is what will change for next season that will allow us to rise

Essentially we are still exhibiting  performance traits that we have always shown.I dont believe we have improved enough given what  has been done off field. But hey I am not slitting wrists either just want to be convinced that improvement next year is really probable.

Fair enough jackub.  For me I see us as tracking as I thought we would with the final two weeks being the exception, not the rule.

I expect to see our improvement come mainly from within, but also with some astute trading/recruiting from the likes of Taylor, Mahoney, Viney etc.  As I've mentioned in the who are the Dees targetting thread.  It could be the likes of a Dal Santo or Harvey on a short term deal along with players like Nathan Vardy, Mitch Brown or Tom Lamb who could do with a change of scenery.  But maybe I'm being to optimistic?

Don't forget, the Dogs improved from 2014 to 2015 without any major changes outside of the coach and loosing their captain.  No one saw that coming.

You don't chase these guys for the sake of it (unless you're Richmond)

the bloke hasn't played in two years and would cost next years first rounder this years second rounder and probably steak knives.

we'd be foolish to chase him.

Don't think GC would settle for that deal.

Good. How often do severely injury-prone players actually come back and play long, meaningful careers? Cases like Menzel are as rare as hen's teeth (and he still could break down again). I'd be reluctant to give a first round pick for him let alone two.

Let's not trade away the farm for a gun unless it's absolutely necessary. We improved this year on the back of a trade period that netted mediocre Bugg, Kennedy and a few draft picks. How did Collngwood go after getting Treloar and Aish?

Exactly, and that's probably the best offer we could make without totally selling the farm

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
