Changes vs Carlton

Featured Replies

No change, unless Hogan and Garlett miss. Even then I'd still prefer Hogan sitting on his arse in the goal square if Dawes is the only alternative. Garlett can be replaced by any number of Casey smalls.

I must remember to watch and rewatch this weekends game, and even if we win, only watch it looking for mistakes by players to ensure I can contribute to the Changes against Geelong thread when it appears

Saty ignore the team focus on players who try hard to do the team thing but fail owing to their imperfection

Alternatively we just let repeated mistakes occur  and accept flawed players who don't aspire to improve at all.

Footy supporters like to have their 2 cents worth and we are entitled to it as is the fan base of the other teams.

Luckily, today we are in a spot where the idea of entertaining Cloke into his dotage is not even considered.L

Lucky for Grimes it seems he may go to Sydney but he has run his race with us.

It happens and we are allowed to spot weaknesses and acknowledge them.

Particularly the ones who make the same mistakes week in week out. Good job chap.

Which is exactly what the coaching team do to be able to give constructive critique.

If Casey were struggling and there were no players pushing their case, then yes I'd agree that no changes would be the best result.  The fact is there are 4-5 blokes absolutely tearing that competition apart trying to get into the AFL side.

If the coaches think they would improve the Seniors by bringing someone in then the worst performing players are naturally the ones who are going to miss.

I don't see why you'd be against this.  We are all trying to see the team improve and give the best chance of winning.

As opposed to sitting there reminiscing about all the small talk you've engaged in with each player as they gather a stat?

Michie, Weideman and ANB in the squad........

The comparison with McDonald is not apt IMO because even when making errors, McDonald would bring the defensive aspects of his game. Harmes is hard at it, but he's next to useless if he's not getting the ball. And most of the time when he gets it, he puts team mates under pressure with poor disposal. It's like PD said, it might not translate on the stat sheet how poor his disposal is, but 'using one's eyes', he's a butcher.

Did you watch the Hawthorn game? Don't rate Luke Bruest?

Jones' disposal is often poor.

Yeah but compare how it is now to when he first came into the league.

You mean like Roos dropping Watts twice in his 7th year ?  Let's not pretend that Watts hasn't saved his career in 2016.

Oscar was played before he was ready.  I'm OK with that as it happens to most young players.

Convenient perspective. Too convenient.

Unfortunately it doesn't reflect the truth.

You just don't go from the rubbish bin to a massively required player/verge of AA selection in one pre-season.

To clarify the inevitable response, I think Tom Lynch (Crows) will be AA before Watts this year but Watts' name is definitely in the conversation.

Really? Here's the truth according to Watts, just a few weeks ago: "Roosy's probably saved my career, to be honest."

You can if you have the wrong attitude.

I'm sure there are plenty that have gone from AA to rubbish in the space of a year....

Yeah, he had the wrong attitude.

With Gawn, he's probably the most popular player at the club.

Confirmation bias. Look. It. Up.

Roos also said Watts is one of the best people he's met in football in his entire career. "Love the guy".

I suspect he didn't form this view in the last 3 months.

We all know that's not happening.

We're not talking about whether he's a good bloke.

The point you quibbled with was whether his career had been saved, something which Jack himself concedes.

Roos has been there 3 years, not 1.

I think Jack came good last year but slipped up towards the end, he got dropped and I think that was the wake up call he needed.

He's been good all year so far and I would imagine he now understands he has to put in every week, not every now and then. Some players get harsher treatment than others, there are some that more is expected of and I reckon Jack is one of them.

Yeh, and at the end of season 2, Watts wasn't in the best 22; clearly, his career hadn't been salvaged at that point.

Are people really arguing that 2016 isn't the year it's clicked for him?

Grapeviney has saved me from responding to this misguided rubbish.
