Melbourne has a sorry history of not hanging onto ruckmen who go on to play well at other clubs.

If Melbourne delist him, I think the more likely outcomes are that he'll disappear off the face of the football Earth forever, or that he'll disappear off the face of the football Earth and suddenly appear again when he's 26, big and mature.  He kicked a few bags in the VFL last year and kicked another, albeit in the dev league, last week.  The guy can obviously play, but hasn't looked close to stringing it together for long enough to play AFL at this stage.

He's a typical example of "big men take time".  It's just a question of whether or not we're willing to wait, because by the looks, he's very much on the slow burn.

He has the Casey best and fairest in the bag this year, surely.

Astounding really  and on top of that had two shots on goal marked on the line by his team mates. Has had a great year and will feature in Casey's B&F.  I have a few quid on him for the Liston as well. Was paying 50:1.

Disappointing that the game hasn't been put on the MFC site.  

Better get some key positon players back to Casey before the finals, & send keilty off to the surgeon then. don't want him in front of any tv cameras.

Interesting when you read the Casey review, some of the players get mentioned as playing up to AFL standard and ready for a recall and others get classified as playing very well and doing all the things that we ask of them.

This week, look at the reviews for Matt Jones, Grimes and Trenners, you can clearly see who is in the frame for promotion and who is going nowhere.

It seems as if there are some who will not get promoted no matter how well they play, their cards are marked.

VFL player review: round 19

Some real understatement there. 

Jack Grimes has his second 40 disposal game in three weeks and he gets this:-

"I thought Jack’s game was really workmanlike."

Really?

He continues to play at a really high level and standard at VFL level. His work-rate and ability to be involved in the game, from a defensive point of view and from a contested point of view, enabled him to get his hands on the football and make really good decisions as well.

Matt Jones: Matt had 41 possessions, six clearances and five inside 50s. Jonesy, for the second week in a row, has been huge. He seemed to be everywhere on the weekend and he certainly provided us with a lot of run and quality ball use. Matt played with real speed and played like an AFL player at VFL level. It was a high quality performance.

Pretty clear which of them is going back up when there's a spot.

Also on Trengove, I read the In the Mix article on the AFL site which said tagger Ben Jacobs from the Roos returned from injury on the weekend and spent time on JT. Not a bad effort if he still or was near to BOG.

Not really.
This is an exceptional stat line, but Grimes tends to get a lot of ineffectual or less-than-damaging possessions and will work hard to get the ball back a lot of the time.
Making the right decision doesn't mean your possessions have a lot of hurt factor.

I thought that was interesting also. His lack of speed is clearly a big issue in terms of his chances of getting a regular senior position.

I did wonder though if the comment was referring to leg speed or perhaps how quickly he was moving the ball. I think Dunn, Grimes and to a lesser extent Garland have struggled to adapt tot he run and gun style we are now employing and instinctively look to hold it up instead of taking a risk and getting it moving. Not sure about JT though.

I still reckon if JT is to become a regular senior player at the dees he will need to play a Sam Mitchell inside mid role and we might need one or two more really quick players around him to compensate for his lack of lag speed, in the way Hawks do.
