Changes vs Freo

If you listened to Watts interview, the players actually enjoy the trip to Darwin. I don't think that it will adversely effect us more than any other team (whose players may actually NOT enjoy it)! If we win, we will be be taken seriously you can rest assured on that.

Of course he or any of the other players are going to say they enjoy the trip to Darwin when being interviewed.

If we can tighten up the turnovers without losing any speed when moving the ball we will win easily.

If Grimes is ever going to get another game it will be this week.

I know we don't have a good record at NT and have a 6 day break.  But weather conditions will be fine.

Our team is young.  But all of last weeks 22 have had several preseasons so there is some reasonable conditioning there.  And we did have a 2 week break.  Bring in Oliver, Trengove and Wagner and there are some fresher players.

And did anyone see Freo's last game vs Coll?  Both teams were appalling.  They don't have a ruckman and are playing a bunch of their reserves team.  They don't have any effective forwards. And forget their backline!  Shut down Neale is the major challenge.

Worry about the week after Darwin but if we lose this week it will be as embarrassing a loss as that to Ess in Rnd 2.

Yes, let's.

Yes, may.

But I'm not holding my breath on either front.

Just watched the second quarter from Punt Rd (was there for the first) and Clayton Oliver was back to his explosive and damaging best. Hands are a weapon from stoppages but we all want him to kick it more. One passage late in the Qtr caught my eye. He took off from the centre bounce after a tap from Spencer, accelerated away and had a long shot from just outside 50... it was touched on the line but the breakaway speed was sensational at that level.

We finally have players that are too good for that level. Only a few years ago we had players that were ok/good at VFL level then couldn't play AFL of now but now we have young/fringe players like Oliver, Brayshaw, Tracc, Harmes, Kennedy who go to the VFL and are simply too good, then they just have to play AFL. Even Matty Jones who I wouldn't have had in this catagory before this year has shown he is too good for VFL.

As a Top End resident and long time D's supporter who has attended every footy match played by the club at TIO stadium definitely agree with the later post! Most recent results have not been so great but feeling confident and positive about team performance this week. Go Demons!

33 degrees and coming off a 6 day break.  Freo coming off a bye.   Ditch these Darwin games FFS

Wagner good chance to play:

Btw the game is at night so it won't be 33 degrees.  Overnight low f/cst is 21 so game conditions may not be too bad with no rain for some days and low humidity.

Freo have only about 28 players fit to choose from.

So even allowing for their extended break it will be a shock if we don't beat them.

No excuses this week. Should beat them. Experience is irrelevant. We are a 4-5 goal better squad.

If they lose this week, it'll snowball and we'll end up with another sub-8 win season.

Must win to set up a strong second half leading into 2017.

Frost and O McDonald are not up to it. We simply cannot compete down back with those 2 in the back 6. Its an absolute train wreck. Not up to AFL level at the moment and not fair on them to keep picking them. They are terrified of making errors every time they are near the ball.

Grimes and Trenners are not popular selections on here, but both are endurance runners and could be very useful in the heat.

Caution with younger players in the heat. Probably best to hold oliver and brayshaw's selections for Perth.

No one should need a rest after the bye so no change.

Bring in grimes and Oliver Wagner next week to freshen up and smash the saints

I think they need more pace against the Saints

Spencer in for Dawes

Spencer????? He is not a forward

And Dawes is?

At least Spencer can ruck, take a mark and snag the odd goal. Dawes.........like gravity has the ability to bring the ball to the ground, unfortunately unlike gravity he gives away silly free kicks and takes the place of a player with functioning hands.

The real point is that we should not be playing there at all if we are going to be taken as a serious player in Melbourne

I know the financial arguments but time to look for an alternative source of funds (crowd funding perhaps? )

And do you suggest that Dawes is?  Forward talls should mark and kick goals.

Was that 50m penalty the worst you had seen all year? I couldn't believe what he was doing!

I can't understand how there is no heat on N.Jones.....

His disposal has been poor for quite some time.

If Nathan Jones gets dropped anytime in the next 2 seasons I will chew my left leg off

This.

One day we eventually have to win a game against these guys, and with the enormous list of players they have missing, well........ we should win.

But ofc we probably wont. 6 Day break, team of kids, yada yada yada. NO MORE DAMN EXCUSES! A win is the only acceptable option this week.

I will even take a scrappy 1 point win in a low scoring slugfest.

The club would no doubt know how important late season wins against some decent opposition teams are to set us up for the off season trade and free agency circus, so if we dont come home with the chockies this weekend i reckon our chances of landing a big name go down the gurgler. Lose, and our confidence takes yet another hit, ,doubt creeps back in, and the team starts to focus on the possibility of repeating our disgusting finish to last year.

The time is now. Not next week, not next year, NOW. We simply must win this week..

I get the impression from this snippet from Roosy, that Chris Dawes won't be on the plane to Darwin:  Media conference: Roos on Dawes

Yes CBDees

I am so over all these nellies who see the Darwin game as a reason for us losing.

There is one inescapable fact here.

For most of the time we have been going to Darwin we have been a bottom 3 side.

That is why we lose.

What worries me more is the comment" I am not worried about Dawes medium to long term"

That suggests he has a long term!

What photos is he holding?

I think it was Roos not embarrassing Dawes by talking publicly about his contract status (OOC this year) or creating distracting headlines for the team, while still letting other clubs know that if they want Dawes to come and talk to us.

Dawes would know his future is on the line especially once Roos goes.

Well, that was a shock. The Demons 4-game unbeaten run came to a grinding halt in a tense, scrappy affair at the sunny, windy Alberton Oval, with the Power holding on for a 2-point win. The Dees had their chances—plenty of them—but couldn't convert when it mattered most. Port’s tackling pressure rattled the Dees, triggering a fumble frenzy and surprising lack of composure from seasoned players.

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.
