There's the small matter of booking stadiums, arranging staff for ticketing, security, catering, cleaning, etc etc. Businesses organising boxes for their favourite clients, getting in food & drink .... so many factors.

One week is impossible. Even a month would be pushing it.

No doubt Ted, would be hard yakka. Still I think it would be something that could be looked at in years to come as the game becomes even more about the almighty  $$$

Maybe the venue could be booked 4 weeks in advance and the best tenants that are highest on the ladder or what looks like will be the biggest blockbuster jags it? That way most of the staff, catering, etc is sorted??

I dunno, just thinking out loud... Via a laptop

We had one friday night game last year which we won on a cold wet night in front of a big crowd. Showed improvement through 2015 and were rewarded with 0 this year.

The bummers bring the code into disrepute, finish lower then us in 2015 and all in sundries know they're 12 are going to get suspended, yet they get 2 Friday Night games this year including indoors v the reigning champs.  And suprise, suprise it's a blow out and no one turns up.

A please explain is surely in order!

Ch7 executives obviously have no idea

i just shake my head. Advertisers would rightfully furious at the way their dollars are used.

Game over 20 minutes in.

No wonder FTA is dying...

No not at all, very serious episode.

Will just be curious to see which number ends up be greater. The running time of SVU with the added 20min to allow for programs running over, or the margin of the match.

I don't think the answer was ever in doubt! I'm not a big L&O fan but i think you chose well

Well as someone who does make the very occasional trip to Melbourne from Sydney, I would have to disagree with you about that... particularly as someone who generally uses points to fly and accommodation is often not so readily available.

I'm heading over this weekend on points too, ht.

Luckily I've got a sister who lives in Kensington so accommodation is sorted.

Is there any chance "He arches his back" can be banned from Chanel 7 commentary as well?

The fact Essendon got Friday night games this year is ridiculous.

I'm sure we'll see them on Friday night next year nonetheless. Carlton will return too. But we'll have to "earn it", of course.

As for floating fixtures, it's just not going to happen. The logistics of moving games from Saturdays to Fridays is so much easier said than done. Some stadiums try to have more than just AFL on any given weekend and it would become impossible to book things in for stadiums. Then there are unexpected 6 day breaks, or 5 day breaks for some clubs if their fixture is getting moved.

Oh dear Lord.

Round 15. Thursday night. West Coast vs Essendon. In Perth.

They cannot afford to keep losing money.

TV Networks do not pull in as much cash as they used to....

Yet posters will continue to say all we need to do is win games to be rewarded with Friday night games. Like North and the bulldogs. Not.

Prime time exposure continues to be ignored as a critical element of equalisation. I wonder why. Not.

What a whitewash. How did we let this mob beat us? Interesting stats on disposals though. Even though the difference was over 100 points Essendon had 433 disposals to Hawthorns 425. Just shows how some stats don't tell the real story. The one that does that is the scoreboard. Hawthorn had 66 inside 50s to Essendon 36. I do however remember a couple of years ago when we beat The bombers with less than half the number of inside 50 entries. Oh well, that's footy for you.

And we wake up to this:  http://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/essendon-coach-john-worsfold-says-channel-7-would-be-the-loser-if-afl-banishes-bombers-from-friday-night-footy/news-story/845aec9a14aef5bb923af623dd4e0af3

'John Worsfold says host broadcaster Channel 7 would be the loser if the AFL banishes Essendon from the Friday night stage in 2017 because of its uncompetitive season'.

Then: 'The Friday night fizzer drew the smallest Dons-Hawks crowd since 1990 and gave Essendon its worst home attendance against a Victorian club since 1995'.

If their own fans don't go to games how can they expect general footy fans (who like to relax watching Fri night games) to watch last night's rubbish!

I always look forward to Fri night footy, but last night I didn't watch a nanosecond. Disgraceful scheduling!

Two things about commentary last night

  • Dennis Cometti saying he felt SORRY for Essendon, because they are in this situation by circumstance and its tough playing every week. Sorry, but is he serious?
  • Jamar was laughable. But he didn't deserve to be laughed at by commentators. Just totally unprofessional.

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session.
