DubDee, are you not paying attention or just being mischievous: Dunn injured, Cloke dropped.

Maybe he was thinking of the VFL?

Grimes to the fwd line for mine.....Kent has little defensive pressure and Grimesey will provide it in spades...

Might not be far off

Roos on Grimes being an emergency almost every week: We're looking at getting him a position on the wing and a little half forward, if Viney doesnt get up there will be another position available. (paraphrasing a little)

Like Stuie, I do find your preseason reports very helpful, but you still have not given your opinion on the matter, you have said you weren't surprised.

Do you think Garlett deserves to play?

While he does get a lot of goals over the back, I would imagine we break down going forward just as often because he doesn't/cant lead at the ball carrier and we lack players capable of breaking the lines.

And the last line is that same line we hear every pre season and not even close to true. We have a list now with a bunch of list cloggers and it appears certain players have already had their papers stamped. I would struggle to find a player in the VFL team that I would want in the AFL team.

We've had a fairly good run with injuries and an easy draw, yet we are not in the 8. I expect more and like many others use this forum to voice my concern.

Negative or realist.

It doesn't matter what I think, which is true of all posters on here, what I said was he seemed to be down on form and confidence,  my opinion, so in the new MFC world he is omitted, and I am not surprised, a couple of years ago because of who he is we would have kept playing him, and possibly nearly destroyedv him, like we did with others As for yourvother point Roos when he came on board said it would take at least 3 years to turnaround the team, he didn't spruik a miracle   we are exactly where I thought we would be this year As for the VFL team have you watched them live    of the new young ones White and Hulett are 2 who could be fine AFL players if given the time

Isn't Grimes one of the guys who has had his cards marked according to some on here    they will be horrified

His cards are marked, doesn't mean he wont play some more games but fat chance he will be on the list next year.

Unfortunately I can't watch them live as I don't live in Australia these days.

Most weeks I will watch the replay on the website. I was talking more specifically to being ready to play right now. Hulett is showing some promising signs and I am looking forward to seeing how White goes at AFL level (I'd expect in the coming weeks). But to say he can come in and replace anyone probably speaks volumes for why we struggle. A lot of the players in our team are replaceable because they aren't that good.

If it didn't matter what people thought, there would be no point in having this forum, we could all just go to the club website and agree with Matt Burgans puffy pieces.

Roosy made it pretty clear in Roos Views that BenKen will come in for Jeffy. He thinks Viney will play but if he doesn't get up then Grimes will replace him. I think at the expense of Harmsey unfortunately .

Stop carrying on like you are the team owner.

Your incessant whining at other posters is so tiresome.

If Viney does not get up then Michie will get the call up. Roos wants Grimes on the wing and HFF. But I think Jack will play. Gotta beat Collingwood.

I'm actually really happy the Pies have dropped Cloke, although his form this year has been terrible he always seems to get up to kill us on QB. Like the first time around this will be won in the middle with Gawn dominating the hit outs. Looking for big games from Jones, Vince, Tyson, and Viney (if he gets up).

Would love Hogan and/or Watts to kick a bag.

I'm cautiously confident, at least as confident as you can be with such an up and down team!

Don't read it precious, just repeating what other posters posted   ok for them to say it obviously  You will also see the poster I asked the question of, answered   so didn't have an issue   so pull your head in

Not so sure of all the talk of Viney being an almost certain inclusion.  If his injury is only 75% healed, personaly I'd almost rather he missed another week or two than play out the season carrying a niggle which didn't properly heal and his form and devlopment suffer as a result.

I'm sure that the club medicos are on top of it and will make the right call, just saying having him for this game doesn't mean as much as having him full fit for the rest of the season and I think the teams depth is at a point where the longer term perspective is more paramount.

Final Selections:

I/C: Jack Viney, Clayton Oliver, Dean Kent, Ben Kennedy

Emg: Viv Michie, Jack Grimes, James Harmes

In: Jack Viney, Ben Kennedy

Out: Jeff Garlett, James Harmes

Michie and Grimes playing at Casey today, so leaves Harmes (dropped) as the real emergency.

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo
