thanks KC. any word on the Weed and where he is at this week....a rest?

pretty hard to understand why vfl players would need to be rested (managed) when the season is shorter and they already have so many byes

I see Matt Jones has failed to get up from his general soreness also.

This weeks mystery omissions are

Matt Jones (soreness ... WTF? can you be rested for 2 weeks) & Weideman (managed?? strange)

Injured Joel Smith 1 week, Chris Dawes 1 week, VDHberg 3 weeks, JKH 5 weeks, Mitch King (season).

Very pleased to see Angus named at half back and I hope that is where he plays. As i have stated for a while, we have five or six clearance beasts already and so far Angus hasn't shown us his stuff in that area.

What we know from last year is that he's a thumping kick on both feet and can stick a tackle and he's a lovely strong mark - sounds like a very good developing backman to me - he may just have to wait a couple of years for Vince and Jonesy to retire to move permanently into the midfield.

Unfortunately though I don't have a lot of faith in VFL line-ups prior to the actual game - so I won't be surprised if he plays midfield with the occasional stint up forward.

I'd just rather he was in the mix to replace one our back six than trying to push out one of our small/medium forwards.

The Casey team on the MFC site has Matt Jones in, still no Weed.

It looks likes Matt Jones goes in for Jake Gains so Jones' gain in Gains' loss.

You're in good form, this morning, Jack!

Thanks Barry.

Actually, the numbers (16 AFL listed players) look good for Casey. I commented last week that it was always a danger game if the proportion of AFL to VFL listers was around 50% or less and the Scorpions proved me correct. I feel much better about this week although I would have liked Sam Weideman to be taking part.

Be interesting to see how Hulett goes without Weideman who has been the main focal point so far. Tim Smith tends to wander further up the ground a bit more,

so may be instructed to stay closer to home to help Hulett out.

They seem to be being a bit more careful with our first year players this season.  Roos mentioned the lessons learned last year when they kept Gus in the side for too long and burned him out.  I suspect that they will keep resting them at intervals throughout the year.

Just a note from Melbourne training on Thursday....

Matt Jones had some fairly heavy bandaging around his mid section... I'm no expert but I'd be guessing bruised ribs?

Golden opportunity for ANB, Trenners, Matt Jones, Oliver and Brayshaw. Good luck lads, best two (at least) this week are in.

ANB should come in next week regardless. Kid has been killing it for Casey but can't get a game.

Also pleeeeaaaase can we drop Lumumba and bring in an actual defender? Garland, Grimes, it's time to shine!

Think we'll find Brayshaw will play at least a couple of games in the two's.

Agree on the other 4, but it's our defence that needs strengthening. Grimes and Garland anyone?

I read/heard (can't remember which) Roos saying that Brayshaw would be given a solid block of 3-4 weeks in the VFL to build some consistency.

We now turn our attention to Casey after a lamentable performance by Melbourne.  Smash the door down Trenners, ANB, Clarry et al!

I was gonna get on to rebut this. I thought he was awesome in the midfield last year for a player of his type and age. Was certain he'd had a number of clearance-heavy games. Had a closer look.... He averaged 1.8 last year. Had 5 once. Very interesting. Given we have 2 players who seemingly have been genetically altered to be clearance superstars from birth, I'm not too worried... but all the same, your post is one of the more interesting ones I've seen. Do you see him possibly as a winger? Flying off the edge to take out opponents or intercept handballs? He's not absolutely blistering pace, but pursues well and seems to kick well at full tilt. I just don't see him as being all powerful going back the other way. You have to be a gun in the air like Jetta to be taken seriously these days as a defender. Can he be that?

    TRAINING: Monday 20th January 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator attended training out at Casey Fields to bring you the following observations from Preseason Training. GATOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS There were 5 in the main rehab group, namely Gawn, Petracca, Fullarton, Woewodin and Lever.  Laurie was running laps by himself, as was Jefferson.  Chandler, as has been reported, had his arm in a sling.  Lindsay did a bit of lap running later on. Some of the ''rehab 5'' participated in non contact drills and b

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov
