Changes vs. North

Featured Replies

All those calling for Lumumba to be dropped will be disappointed when the team is announced.

Roos rated his game yesterday as evidenced in the post match presser.

I know, it doesn't make sense.

Assuming we have no injuries, Kent and Harmes go straight out before anyone else. For me that is non-negotiable.

I would drop Lumumba but Roos' comments suggest otherwise. Instead, I suspect one or both of Brayshaw and Oliver will be rested.

In terms of who to bring in, I expect Dunn to return to counter North's tall forward line (though we all knew it here, Roos now knows that Garland's incapable of holding down a KPD spot). Frost could play that role but I query whether we will bring him back as a defender after our long hard (and failed) slog to make him a forward.

Otherwise, ANB looks to have put his hand up and Stretch would surely be an upgrade on Bugg on a wing.

I can understand the frustration here with "H".  But, he aint gonna be dropped.  Roos in the Presser was very clear in his assessment that the selectors got one right ("H"), and one wrong (Brayshaw).  Based on that, I'd be amazed if they drop "H"...

I reckon Dunn, OMac & ANB will come in.  Possibly Frost, too.

Out?  Kent.  Who else?  Take your pick...!

Sorry, Barrie.

I'd not read this before posting.

In: Goodwin

Out: Roos

Once a coach moves from 'we' to 'they' aka the last press conference, there's a question around their own buy in to the cause....imo

The next step for Roosy is to talk in the third person. 'Paul is not happy with the performance'

Out: Kent, Garland, Harmes

In: Hunt, Dunn, Stretch

Try Hunt and stretch out on the wings for some speed.

Move Salem into the midfield and put both Jones and Vince predominantly at half back.

Vandenberg plays as a forward

Dunn takes Garlands position and hopefully actually provides some offense.

If ANB backs up his performance from the weekend he's in against the pies, Bugg needs to lift.

Ideally you would drop Lumumba but that seems highly unlikely, and Jones but hes been playing OK so far.

I think we are a genuine chance. It seems we get thumped when we're favourites but seem to pull off an upset every now and again.

He's pretty much done this all the way through though. He has rarely used 'we' when discussing the players. Not saying it's right, but to say that's changed drastically, I'd disagree. It has usually come when we've lost.

How can we put Jones and Vince predominantly half back? They might be able to rotate through there when they are resting or through rotations but you can't take them both out of the midfield.

Eh, H is on when the team is on. Provides run and takes the game on when others don't. We lament the team's slow drag forward and inability to run into space but he's the only one that does confidently. It's a massive liability but every good teams has that hard runner out of defense. He just runs into a brick wall because he looks ahead and realises his teammates aren't running both ways.

He's not the problem. The way he takes it on is something we need from his 21 teammates.

There's a difference between being able to run fast and breaking through the defence using quick ball movement. I know Lumumba won't be dropped but I really struggle to see how anyone could think he had a good game? He literally runs past a guy, gains about 15m and then bombs it to a pack of 4 or 5. The ball is either punched over the line or it's mopped up by the opposition. We looked so much more dangerous without him running it out of defence.

So sick of losing to these pretenders.  If we cant beat Essendrug can we at least end the North curse ffs

A few people have said this before me, but I'd hazard a guess that there will be very few, if any, changes for next week.  Roos regularly espouses the value of continuity and sticking to the gameplan.  In many respects this is what makes him such a stubborn (and in many opinions on this site, poor) gameday coach.  He believes in the gameplan and the system that they have in place and he is unwilling to be reactionary and change it.  In his first year at Melbourne he said it was pointless to swing massive changes at the selection table as the team didn't gel if there were five different players brought into it each week.

Whilst I don't necessarily believe it's for the best, it's what I think will happen - one, maaaaaaaybe two changes.  The coaching staff seem to have huge belief in Lamumba, Kent, Harmes, etc. who are at the tops of a lot of people's lists.

We need leg speed -  but not a lot at casey in form.  Need Stretch to find form petracca to take Harmes place and trenners to take tysons spot.

out :. Pederson, Matt Jones, bugg,

in :. Frost, ABV, grimes,

Roosy gave Matt Jones a huge pump up last week, there is no chance he'd drop him after one average game.

OUT: Anyone not willing to gut run all day and provide multiple leads, tackle or cant hit targets as well as any dummy spitters/ quitters or nancy boys who give up when the going gets a bit tough.

IN: Anyone who is willing to give their all for the club for the entire match and do the opposite

Unfortunately lacking fit players  Trengrove, Petracca need another VFL week

IN  Dunn after a run at Casey, Frost by necessity, Alex Neal-Bullen, Grimes by necessity, Stretch for speed and by necessity.

OUT Brayshaw underdone and injured knee in first, Lumumba will not get rid of the ball before he is dragged down, Oliver got caught in full speed match and probably knackered, Kent slacked off,

AND Watts and Hogan to watch the toss of the coin for the last spot.  Hogan created zero mayhem when the ball was coming in for yet another Essendon defensive mark

Would like to drop Jetta and Vandenberg but vwerry vwerry afwaid of Michie

Need to keep Peterson for rucking

I would like to see ANB get a full run at it on the ball. He was impressive as the sub last year. Given half a chance I think he can make a difference.

I'm not convinced about Neal-Bullen myself. He seemed as slow as Tyson in his games in the seniors last year. Hope the kid proves me wrong though.

Lots of peopel were saying dunns ommission wanst that bad last 2 games. He should have been on  daniher. Hes tougher than tmcdonald. Poor poor coaching.

My team against North

Jetta Frost Dunn

Salem T McDonald Grimes

Stretch N Jones Vince

Watts Pederson Kent

Garlett Hogan Kennedy

Gawn Viney Tyson

Oliver, Harmes, Vandenberg, M Jones

In Frost, Dunn, Grimes, Stretch

Out Bugg, Garland, H, Brayshaw

Need to get our defense solid.  I have brought in Dunn and Grimes as I believe both have a very good defensive side.  Frost lets start playing him in the postion we picked him up to play, crash packs, our defenders don't destroy the contest.

Salem is our get out man he gets the 6th forward.

I think the two things i have learned from the first two rounds are,

1. the % of fitness a player needs before being selected is now going to be much higher, underdone players will become liabilities under the interchange cap.

2. the days of young players playing all 23 games are probably over, even Hogan is going to need to be rested this year imo

You need to change one of your Garlands to Garlett.
