Umm, what happened to Kalani White? We didn't pick him? Was he not nominated for this draft?

Will will most likely grab him in the rookie draft

Why didn’t we get him with our last pic which we passed on?

Okay, so how good is he? No team rated him good enough to pick him in the main draft? Are we excited about him just cos he'd be a F/S pick? Wasn't he a Gold Coast Academy player? They didn't take him either. I feel like I've missed an essential piece of the puzzle. Is he no good or have DL overrated him?

I imagine we'll leave that spot on our list open for a SSP signing in the lead up to the season.

Better for salary cap.

And if another team suddenly picked him in the late 50s we miss the boat? (As an academy player could GC have had first dibs to match the bid?)

Also, is the advantage of leaving open one or two regular list spots that we can promote a rookie to the regular list at any time, according to which ones are showing the sort of form that would have them in contention for a seniors game?

I don't quite get it either. If we commitment to take him as a father son, does that carry over to the rookie draft, where we could out bid a club who nominates him before us in the rookie draft?

He can simply be added as a rookie by us tomorrow, taking a bit of pressure off him to perform immediately.

He'll be automatically listed as a rookie tomorrow.

He's gonna be a 4+ year project and even then there's no guarantees he makes it. Has enough upside to see if he does. Perfect use of a rookie spot.

Goes straight onto the rookie list now that he made it through the national draft. Melbourne can announce it whenever they want

you can still do father son in the rookie draft. We've done it recently. Sinemma might not make it though as there are many highly rated players from the draft not taken yet and I think we have pick 5.

The draft rule is any player nominated as an FS and not taken in the draft can be automatically drafted as a rookie by the nominating team prior to the commencement of the rookie draft.

all that changes is he's paid outside the cap and a 1yr deal instead of 2

and yes DL has overhyped him, hes tall and athletic but has plenty to work on to get to the next start line (afl debut)

It’s a no from me, had a couple of looks and doesn’t appear up to it.

Nobody, but nobody, can question your consistency @bluey. Keep on keeping on.

We have 2 spots on the rookie list. One for White the other will be for a train on player. Sinnema will be one of them, I'm sure they will pass on pick 5.

The new ruck rule will favour Kalani with his massive leap.

Shorter 2nd rucks without a big leap will get flogged as there will be less wrestling etc.

5 on the bench will be interesting. One spot for a tall. Ruck/forward.

after pick 35, if anyone nominated white we would have just taken him with our next pick (56),

so white was rated after pick 35, and no one bothered picking him, because they knew they would not get him

It does not mean he is no good

Lucky for us, as we get to grab him in the rookie draft

AFL training environment plus bluey’s blitz the beanpole accelerated Guinness and plantain diet. Perceptions will change.

We have 2 spots on either list. Now I am fairly certain we will commit to Kalani in the RL, but I hope we hold a spot open for SSP.

Yeah that's what I meant as a train on player. SSP Sinnema will be one of the players vying for an SSP rookie.

Thanks for the thread, I was wondering what had happened also. We obviously planned to match the big if someone did bid. To say no clubs rated him is most likely not true. Just not enough to put in a bid as he was committed to the dee's.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

It’s late February. Two teams widely predicted to finish near the foot of the AFL table in 2026 face off against each other in sweltering 30-degree heat deep in outer suburbia in a match simulation with fresh new faces and uneven team numbers. There are no nearby sheep stations on offer; the result promises nothing more than bragging rights for the winner. Nevertheless, the loser appears hopelessly adrift, whereas the other seems to have found its footing after a couple of years of struggle – perhaps a hint at bigger things to come?
