Dean Kent is fulfilling his potential now hes finally having an injury free run.  21 goals so far despite missing a game, and with 7 games left and he may end up with 30+.

The big plus is that he is beginning to be more consistent with his performances.  Normally he would have a ripper and then drop off for a week or two, but these days he is seemingly keeping up those efforts on a week to week basis.  His game tonight was excellent and he did it when the game was there to be won.

As a side note, gee it's nice not having C&B around these days.  Not having to read his drivel is a good thing.

I disagree. I miss his hilarious posts enormously.

Still think he's capable of going a level further (such as in tonight's game) on a more regular basis. Saying that, he's still booted 20+ goals this year and has been a more than solid addition to the half forward line. Hope we resign him soon.

He's having a very good year, certainly showing more of what he's capable but like you Demon Jack I think he's got higher levels he can go to. He sounds very committed to Melbourne and the improvement of the team. 20+ goals at this stage of the year is a very good return from him when you think about how difficult it's been for us to have goal scorers in previous years.

Kent, Watts and Hogan all looked good yesterday evening. If they repeat next week (and Garlett chips in) we may finish the year on a song and even win a few in a row!

There is something about Dean Kent. His aggression early against Richmond last year lay the platform for our win and who could forget his running goal against Essendon in 2014.

Just needs to find more of the ball. Kent's  never had a 20+ possession game in his career.  A champion like Chapman was fast, physical, kicked goals but also got plenty of possessons.  For Kent to go to the next level and above, he needs to find more of it.

He has played some great games so far this season, and some pedestrian ones.

The post above remains true though.

I reckon he lost a bit of pace after that nasty hamstring injury, and I think it actually made him a better player.

Rather than relying solely on his pace, he had to get smarter and work harder to get his hands on the ball. He is a lot less lazy than he was earlier on, even this season.

Credit to him, he has really come on and for a small forward to finish with around 30 goals, is a solid effort.

Also doesn't hurt that he and Jesse are good buddies. Lets hope they both sign soon.

Great to see Kent become an important part of a forward line that has gone from ineffective rubbish to very potent. Add that elusive second tall foil for Hogan and we'll be even better.

I'm noticing an improvement in his running, which is helping him get to more contests, get more of the ball, and provide better defensive pressure from half-forward.

He's also strong overhead.

His development is critical IMO.

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
