I think we did the right thing, a 2nd rounder would not have gotten a lot of air time unless we have a lot of injuries he would still take a year or two to grow into the role. Melksham was a gamble and I believe the club expected some sort of sanction but were happy to go with it. He will be a big bodied player again next year and ready to play. We need players who can play in the next 2-4 year as our window of opportunity opens. getting youngsters is for rebuilding your list. we are pretty well past that, only have a couple more to get rid of at the end of the year and we should have our list to take us into finals.

You're basing your whole argument on an assumption. It's not "obvious" to anyone but you.

It would be interesting to see the difference in the lengths of Melksham's contract vs those of Frost and Bugg. I'd be surprised if they have 4 years. Once again, I've always felt that Melksham's 4-year contract specifically acknowledges the possibility that we might lose him for a slab of time.

For what it's worth it looks like Essendon stuffed up the picks anyway. I'll happily back in Mathieson to do more at AFL level than either Morgan or Redman. I also think Bonner and Balic would've been better selections than Essendon's choices.

Time will tell.

I have a sneaky feeling these suspensions will be over thrown via a successful appeal by all players concerned. Therefore we will have Melksham available to play for us this coming season. Just a hunch I know but stranger things can and have happened. Let's see what transpires soon.

Cannot see it happening, WADA has too much invested in this and what grounds do they have. Really all judges found them guilt, but 2 to 1 on whether they deserve a lighter sentence.  I wonder what happens if they start to fight it does the penalty clock still keep ticking or does it stop, so if it takes 3 months to get a court ruling then they add another 3 months on to their sentence, after all they have not accepted it.

We've just had an appeal.

They lost.

anyone with this view doesn't deserve the time of day

for starters, it's already been stated many times that Roos was quoted as saying they expect a few weeks at worst

not to mention it is just plain stupid to think they would knowingly take a player they expected to miss a year

so it's a pretty open and shut case

exactly. There was 16 clubs to trade with that didn't have a cheating cloud hanging over them. Guess who was on the short list of muppets to talk with Essendon

Oh joy a new thread full of pointless bickering by the same old people. Must be Groundhog Day.

so when someone takes an unprovoked swipe at you, you just cop it eh

You don't seem to be able to grasp the idea that while they might not have "expected" him to miss the year it would have definitely been one of the options/outcomes they planned for. What exactly do you think these guys do all day, read Demonland?

How long are the contracts of Bugg and Frost who were traded with similar value exchanges?

I never said you were the cause of this thread going that way.

For the rest of us it's tiresome seeing half the threads going exactly the same way.

The club should have known that CAS was going to come down very hard once it was known information was with held.

It is outrageous that the AFL had little respect for the CAS Hearing...

Precisely. I thought it was clear to everyone except the most wilfully delusional Essendon supporters that something like this was coming. Makes the trade a mistake for mine, but all we do now is hope that Jake makes it back with interest in 2017-19.

That trade will be judged in about 6 years time.

Unless of course you are of the opinion that we should "not have any drug users on the list!1!"

Then we would have half the players we do currently and it would be tough to recruit with that stance.

Not fussed, pick 25 likely wouldn't have contributed this season anyway.

More than happy for Jake to miss the season as it means Essendon are now a smouldering wreck with lawsuits about to fly thick and fast.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
